Thursday Thirteen--Hunks!
I figured it's been quite a long time since I've posted hunks so here are some brand spankin' new ones. Enjoy!
(and be sure to click the images for a larger view!)
You're welcome. *grin*
And here's a small quote from Sam's Promise, coming to Samhain Publishing December 13th. Love when those heroes go all alpha, don't you?
As he tugged her toward him once more, Julie felt him nip at her bottom lip with his teeth. "Stay with me next weekend," he growled. "At my place."

Saturday Snippet & Contest!
Okay, I promised I'd give away books so here's the deal. I have PRINT copies of Some Like It Rough, So Sensitive, Body Rush, Seduce Me, Dare Me and Tahoe Nights. I seriously need to give a few away. All you have to do is comment on this post and you're entered to win. I'll pick 4 winners for this one.
First winner gets: Some Like It Rough & So Sensitive.
Second winner gets: Seduce Me & Dare Me.
Third winner gets: Tahoe Nights & winner's choice of one of the other five print titles.
Forth winner gets: So Sensitive & Body Rush.
Now onto the excerpt! This week's theme is weather. I chose an excerpt from Taking Chloe. There's nothing like the fresh Hawaiian breeze and making love outdoors to start your day off right. Or so that's what the naughty Merrick Vaughn thinks. ;-)
Adult Excerpt:
Merrick sat at the little table on the terrace of their suite, soaking in the fresh morning breeze as he read the latest headlines. He took a sip of the fresh coffee that had arrived moments earlier. He'd always been an early riser, but he'd actually slept until eight. He couldn't believe the time when he'd looked at the clock. He hadn't slept past six in the morning since his college days.
It hadn't been easy to leave the warmth of Chloe's naked body. She'd been draped over him like a human blanket, but he'd had a lot of thinking to do. Things to plan. Today he'd promised an explanation for his obsessively focused attitude toward work. Christ, he'd practically abandoned her. His pride stung when he thought of how he'd treated her. The most precious thing in his life, and yet his need to prove himself had overshadowed that fact. There could be no changing the past, though. All he could do now was prove he'd never neglect her again. He only hoped she gave him a second chance.
A rustle of fabric behind him caught his attention and pulled him out of his thoughts. He turned in his chair to see Chloe standing in the doorway. Her long hair lay in tangled waves over her shoulders, down past her breasts. Her cream-colored silk robe delineated her sleek lines and full, rounded hips. She could wear a burlap sack and it still wouldn't hide curves like hers.
His mouth watered.
Merrick held out his hand and murmured, "Come here, angel."
Chloe padded barefoot across the patio, rubbing her sleepy eyes. "How come you didn't wake me?"
He chuckled and pulled her onto his lap. "And risk a limb?"
She smacked his chest. "I'm not that bad and you know it."
Chloe grumbled and groused until she had at least two cups of coffee. "You don't do mornings well. Remember the time right after we were married? I decided to wake you and surprise you with breakfast in bed. Big mistake."
She laughed. "I didn't shove the tray in your face on purpose. It was an involuntary reaction."
He smoothed his palm down her back and slid his fingers over the top of her ass. "It wasn't my face that got drenched. I ended up with scrambled eggs and grape juice all over my boxers. And that juice was cold as hell, too."
Her eyes darkened with arousal. "But I cleaned you up afterwards."
He angled his head and kissed her lightly. "Mmm, yes you did. I enjoyed your apology very much."
Chloe started to leave his lap, but Merrick clamped his arm around her tighter. "Going somewhere?"
"I need to shower. I feel all…sticky."
He let his palm drift up her thigh, pushing her robe apart as he went. The instant he felt her soft curls, his semi-erect cock stood to full attention. He slid a finger between her pussy lips and encountered creamy heat. "You're aroused."
Chloe sighed and leaned back. "Sitting on your lap does that to me."
"I'm very glad."
Merrick wiggled his index finger deeper. The clutch of her inner muscles had him pushing his dick into her bottom. He needed to bury himself inside his wife's welcoming sheath. He pulled his finger free, then grasped onto her waist, turning her around until she straddled him. They didn't speak as he untied her robe and exposed her nude body in the soft morning light.
She made a grab for the robe. "What if someone sees us, Merrick?"
"Haven't you ever wanted to try something just a little bit naughty, Chloe?"
"I-I suppose."
He pushed her robe off her shoulders and watched it pool around her waist. Merrick looked over Chloe's shoulder and realized another couple in a hotel room adjacent to them watched their every move. Merrick's possessive instinct was to cover his wife from the other man's view, but he stopped himself. This was a week they'd always remember. Why not go a little wild?

A New Hunk, A Contest, & An Update!
I have several things to share with you all today. First, thanks to Mari Carr and Lauren Dane I'm now taking part in Snippet Saturday. What is Snippet Saturday? This is where a bunch of us authors post excerpts from our releases, current and upcoming, along with the links to all the other authors' blogs taking part in Snippet Saturday. There is a theme to the excerpts and each Saturday is different and fun. I'm new to this thing, but the other ladies are old hats at it. So, to kick off MY part in Snippet Saturday, I decided to have a contest! *grin* I'm way overdue for one anyway and I have a ton of author copies here to unload on some unsuspecting readers. BWAHAHA!
Here's the deal. This Saturday, Sept. 3rd, I'm going to share an excerpt with you all and I'll be giving away some print books in the process. I'll pick several winners from those who leave me a comment on Saturday. So, be sure to come by and say hi!
Also, if you look to the left you'll see that I've posted my September Hunk. Cute, huh? hehe! I had several cuties in my hunk folder and I couldn't decide which one I liked best. To help me I enlisted the crew on my Yahoo Group, Reading After Dark. There were two guys that ulimately gained several votes, but sleeping beauty there won the most votes. In order to keep Guy #2 from feeling left out, however, I've decided he should be October's Hunk. It's only fair, after all.
Last but not least, I've updated my website. Somewhat. I still have more updates to do, but there is only so much time in a day. Anywho, for a sneak peek at my upcoming Samhain release, Sam's Promise, check out this page. Sam's Promise is the first in the Blackwater series and I'm really excited about it. Also, there is a tiny bit of info there about the second book in the series, Vance's Rules. I hope you like what you read. ;-)
A little bit of background about the Blackwater series. One day my oldest daughter came home from school talking about these boys she knows. Five brothers, all adopted. I had to wonder what sort of person would take on five boys to raise? Someone very special, no doubt. Well, the idea took root and I realized I had a rather emotional start to a series here. Thus, the Jennings brothers were created.
Sam, Vance, Brodix, Reilly and River.
All five of these guys have had their share of hard knocks. All are emotionally damaged. And all are completely loyal to Wanda, their adoptive mother. She took them in and gave them their first real taste of love. Wanda taught them what it meant to be a family. So, when she has a heart attack and they learn the family business, the Blackwater Diner, is near bankruptcy, they all step in to make things right. Along the way, though, Wanda has plans of her own. Plans that include finding the perfect match for each of her boys--and she tends to get what she wants, one way or another. :)
And before I go, I wanted to remind everyone that I've posted the prologue to my upcoming Kensington release, Pleasure Bound, on my website. You can read it here

Hot Excerpt--vampire romance
Barnes & Noble Nook | Amazon KindlePrice: .99Just for the heck of it I figured I'd share a smokin' hot excerpt from my self-pubbed vampire romance A Diamond at Midnight. I hope you enjoy it! :)
Adult Excerpt:Jesus, she was beautiful. Lush and sexy. His beautiful, rare diamond. Enthralled, Cain stood motionless as Diamonique's left hand went to her breasts, the other to her sweet center. She arched her back and closed her eyes, fondling herself for his viewing pleasure. Two fingers dipped between her swollen labia, then back out. Cain could see her juices—smell her intoxicating scent. As she plucked at her puckered nipple, arching off the bed, Cain went wild.
He flew to her, moved over her aroused body and pinned her beneath him. Using his knee, Cain pushed her legs wide and settled himself between. By sheer force of will, he kept himself from sinking into the cradle of her warmth. He wanted this to last. He never wanted it to end. Cain needed this moment etched into his memory forever.
Grasping her wrists in one hand, Cain raised them above her head. She was stretched out under him like an offering. He allowed his other hand free rein. He drifted his palm down her curves, to cup her soft mound, then stroked her wet folds open and sank one finger deep. Diamonique moaned and thrashed about, her breasts swayed back and forth in her struggle for completion. It was the ultimate temptation. He dipped his head and took one round breast into his mouth, sucking as much of the sensitive orb in as he finger-fucked her.
"Cain, please!"
Her pleading command was music to his ears. He moved to her other sweetly rounded flesh and lavished it with the same amount of attention. Diamonique lifted up, smashing her breasts into his hungry mouth. He felt his incisors lengthen. Unable to stop, Cain bit down, piercing her flesh. She screamed his name and came apart in his arms. Her blood rushed into his mouth and he drank, starved for her unique flavor. The clutch of her tight heat as her juices soaked his finger, drove his body into a frenzy of lust.
Once her tremors subsided, Cain pulled his finger free, sucked it clean, and then licked the pinpricks on her breast. He pressed a gentle kiss to her mouth and lifted his head.
"You give me something I've never had from any other woman, love," Cain confessed.
Her eyelids lifted, her voice raw when she asked, "What's that, Cain?"
"You give me the sun."
She frowned. "I don't understand."
"When I'm with you, I feel warm again. My soul is brought back to life."
"Cain."
Fear resurfaced in her eyes and he hated it—-hated himself for putting it there. Cain leaned down and kissed it away, then let go of her hands and sat back long enough to flip her onto her stomach. As he came back down atop her, caging her in with his arms at either side of her head, he drove his throbbing shaft into her with one quick thrust and they both moaned...

New Contract, New Series!
I've signed a new contract with Samhain Publishing! Woohoo!
Sam's Promise is the first of a five book series and I'm really excited about it. This one releases December 14th.
Blackwater series, book oneThe restaurant might be his legacy, but she's his future…
And here's a small excerpt:
"Thank you for a wonderful evening."
Julie's soft voice floated down his spine like a gentle kiss. As they stood at her front door, her big eyes staring up at him, Sam knew he had no right to be perturbed by the fact that she wasn't inviting him in. He was left wondering if he should kiss her or simply play it off. Like the date was nothing more than a thank-you as he'd said it would be. He felt awkward, damn it. Hell, he wasn't a damn teenager anymore.
"You're welcome." Not what he wanted to say, but he wasn't sure of Julie. She had a sharp wit, and she was kind—to everyone. Even their waiter had been enraptured by her. It made Sam wonder if she saw him any differently than a casual acquaintance. Somewhere along the line, he'd decided he wanted to be anything but casual with Julie.
"I hope it was worth the work you'll have to do on your friend's car."
"Well worth it." Shit, they'd been reduced to small talk.
She sighed and turned around, then pressed her key into the lock. After Julie had the door open, she turned to him. "Look, I don't know what to do here. My dating days have been pretty limited. I don't want you to think I'm a prude for not inviting you in, but I don't want to appear too…easy if I asked you in for a nightcap. And to top it all off, I have no idea if this is still just a thank-you date. So basically I'm a fish out of water here."
Her rushed speech and the fact she was nervous made Sam feel a shitload better. They were both thrown for a loop, it seemed. "This whole thing is new ground for you, huh?"
"Very new. Like brand-spanking new. So new it's still sealed in cellophane."
He chuckled. "How about we leave the decision up to me, then?"
She bit her lip. "What do you mean?"
He planted his fist against the doorjamb and asked, "May I come in for a cup of coffee, Miss Rose?"
Her gaze narrowed. "First, Miss Rose makes me sound like a sad, old woman with thirty cats to keep her company. Second, just coffee?"
"Unless you have lemon merengue pie to go with it." He tapped her on the nose. "Do you?"
He watched as all the nervousness seemed to evaporate. "No pie, but I do have some chocolate chip cookies."
"Sounds good to me." She nodded and smiled finally, much to Sam's relief, then opened the door. Sam followed her into the condo and shut the door behind him.

Southern Comfort by Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon
The talented writing duo Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon have a brand new book coming out. The latest in their Compass Brothers series, Southern Comfort releases TOMORROW, July 12! Isn't that a hot cover? This series is awesome, folks. You don't want to miss it. Here's the series page in case you haven't read the first one.
Caught between desire and a promise…
Compass Brothers, Book 2
Seth Compton knew from the first that his boss's daughter was all wrong for him. She was too feisty, too damned independent and, at six years his junior, too damned young. When she comes home with a college diploma and fiancé on her arm, though, he can't quite remember all the reasons he held her at arm's length.
It's not just his jeans-tightening reaction to her all-grown-up curves. Something doesn't feel right about her impending marriage, and he won't rest until he's stopped her from making the biggest mistake of her life.
The morning after her wild bachelorette party, Jody expected a hangover. The surprise—waking up tied to a bed with sexy-as-sin Seth. He's got some wild idea about proving they belong together, but she's not buying it. Besides, she has a promise to keep that's too close to her heart to risk, not with a man who, until now, made his disinterest plain.
No one ever said Seth backed down from a challenge. She's going to make him work for it? No problem. Luckily for him, he has plenty of rope…
This story contains a bondage lovin' cowboy who kidnaps and hogties a cowgirl to his bed and does all sorts of naughty things to her. Fun, right?
Excerpt:
"Welcome home, Jody." He stepped forward and bent down to give her a hug. Her shoulder-length chestnut-brown hair smelled like honeysuckle. He had to force himself to keep the embrace quick and brotherly. His cock stirred, and he closed his eyes briefly, trying to ignore the usual arousal that accompanied her arrival. She was the boss's daughter and even at twenty-one, she was too damn young for him.
She'd been a tomboyish twelve-year-old when he first came to work on the ranch and the other hands had given him shit when it became obvious the young girl had a crush on him. Her infatuation hadn't abated until last Christmas, when he'd foolishly kissed her under the mistletoe and then shoved her away.
Since then, the easy camaraderie and innocent flirting they'd engaged in since her graduation from high school had evaporated. She'd only been home once since Christmas, but he could see in her face she was still angry with him. He was determined now that she was back to stay, he'd make things right again. He'd been thinking about her return a lot lately. Things were about to change between him and the little wildcat. He grinned at the thought.
"Thanks, Seth. Good to be back."
"Didn't get the impression you were staying," Thomas muttered.
"Daddy. Don't you think you were kind of rude to Paul?"
"Paul?" Seth asked.
"I mean we only just got here and told you our good news."
Thomas frowned. "Is that what we're calling it?"
Jody's eyes narrowed. "Yes, it is. Didn't you tell me you wanted me to find a nice man and settle down?"
"What the—" Seth crossed his arms over his chest, suddenly worried about the direction of this conversation. "You were pissed as shit when Thomas gave you that advice. Said women these days didn't need a man to be happy and you didn't plan to ever get hitched." The fight she and her father had had at the end of last summer was epic. Seth had tried to stay out of it, mind his own business, but when Jody and Thomas went toe to toe, it was hard not to hear. Neither of them understood the concept of inside voices.
Jody glanced at him and gave him a small smile that seemed too sad to be genuine. "Turns out I was wrong."
Seth fought to restrain a growl from escaping his chest. She'd brought home a man? Paul? Seth's fists clenched at the thought. "How so?"
Thomas shrugged, the helpless gesture at odds with his legendary ability to handle anything. Of course, now that Seth thought about it, Jody was the exception to her father's confident approach to life. Her mother had died when she was five, and Thomas had struggled to understand and raise his daughter since then.
Jody lifted her left hand, flashing a diamond the size of Dallas in his face. "I'm engaged."
"The hell you are." The words left Seth's mouth before he could catch them. While Thomas laughed at his reply, he could see he'd sent Jody's temper into orbit.
She retracted her hand and studied the ring, sarcasm dripping from her tone. "Really? I'm not engaged? Because I think this ring and the fact Paul got down on one knee and said, 'Will you marry me?' sort of proves that I am."
"Who the fuck is this Paul character?" Seth took two steps toward the main house, ready to confront the asshole who'd dared to propose without even bothering to meet her family first, but Jody stepped in front of him, stopping him.
"Back off, Seth. You know perfectly well who Paul is. He's been my best friend since freshmen year of college."
"That Paul? What the fuck? I thought he was gay. Hell, he spent his entire last visit here flirting with the ranch hands."
Jody closed her eyes and took a deep breath. But long before a ten count, she replied, through gritted teeth, "Obviously, he's not gay."
"Since when?"
"Since he fucking proposed to me. Why am I even having this conversation? This is none of your damn business."
He bent down until his face was mere inches from hers. "Is that right? Well, I beg to differ."
She leaned closer, and he could detect the slight scent of chocolate on her breath. Jody clearly hadn't lost her sweet tooth, though he was beginning to wonder where she'd misplaced her common sense. "You are not my boyfriend and you are not my brother. Hell, you're not a part of this freaking family at all. You are my father's foreman, which means my decision to get married is none of your damn business."
He struggled to keep his hands on his hips, rather than reach over and prove to Miss Jody Kirkland how very wrong she was. His fingers were itching to take her over his knee and spank some sense into her.
She'd made herself his business the very first day he'd come to work here and she'd climbed atop Coy, her father's newest addition to the stable. The far-from-tamed horse had taken exception to its rider and bolted across the yard, jumping a fence and sprinting across the lower pasture. Seth had chased her on Charlton for close to a mile before managing to catch up and pull the fool girl off the runaway roan.
He could still recall the way she'd trembled in his arms and looked at him like he'd hung the moon for rescuing her. By the time they'd returned to the stable, they were laughing like old friends and his position at the ranch had been solidified. As he looked into her blue eyes now, he missed the admiration and wished to hell he could get rid of the anger that had crept in instead.
"Jody," Thomas broke in. "You know full well I consider Seth a part of this family. If he takes exception to your asinine engagement, then perhaps you should listen to why."
Jody released a furious breath. "You can't object to a man who's been my friend for years."
Seth leaned back a bit. "Don't you think it's a little strange that one minute the guy's gay and the next he's not?"
"He never said he was gay."
"That's not something we needed to be told. It was kind of obvious. Is he bi?" Seth could understand bisexuality. He'd seen glimpses of it in his older brother, Silas, when they were growing up and he suspected now that his brother was back home in Wyoming, Silas would be acting on some of the feelings he had for his best friend, Colby.
Jody sighed loudly. "No. He's in love with me. Just me."
Seth knocked his hat against his jeans in frustration. "Never heard you talk about him like he was your boyfriend. You were home for Easter, Jody, and you didn't say one word about dating him. When did this so-called love affair start?"
"It turned into something more than friendship recently."
He tried to beat down the twinge of jealousy that accompanied the thought of her being more than friends with any other man. She was right. He had no claim staked on her. But it sure as hell felt like he did. "So why the rush? If you've only started dating, I don't see why—"
"Because I want to. I don't need any more reason than that."
"Just like that?" Seth tried to understand what the hell was going on inside her pretty head. The only thing missing from her haughty proclamation was for her to stamp her foot on the ground like a three-year-old. She wasn't like this. She'd never been a spoiled girl, never been prone to temper tantrums or selfish demands. She'd been a fun-loving tomboy who'd grown into his laughing, easygoing friend. This angry woman was a stranger to him, and he missed the real Jody.
"That's right. And we're not waiting. We came home to have the ceremony performed here."
"When exactly?"
Thomas cleared his throat. Bewilderment crossed his boss's face. He was sure the same confusion resided on his. There would be no help from that camp. "They plan to bring the justice of the peace out to make it official here at the ranch in two weeks."
Hell to the no! Seth would see her married to some stranger only over his dead body. He started to say exactly the same thing, but the argument that came out was much different than what he'd intended. "What about love, Jody? Do you love him?"
His softly spoken question seemed to jar her a bit and for just a second, he saw the trace of his old friend before she disappeared again behind the indifferent, cold woman who'd replaced her.
"What kind of question is that?"
Thomas leaned against the horse stall and crossed his arms over his chest. "A pretty valid one, if you ask me."
Jody turned to look at her father and shook her head. "You two really are a matched set, you know that? Way to gang up on me."
"Answer me, Jody," Seth persisted. "Are you in love?"
She studied his face and a glimmer of pain shone in her eyes. Then she nodded, turned on her heel and walked out of the stable.
It wasn't until she disappeared around the corner that it began to sink in. Seth had missed his chance with her. He'd pushed her away for too long.
"You realize you made a mistake there, right?" Thomas asked.
Seth nodded sadly. Mistake was putting it lightly. He'd fucked up. Big time. "Yeah. I guess I did."
Thomas studied his face and then chuckled. "Think we're talking about two different things. Of course, maybe not. She may be in love, son, but she didn't say with who."

Excerpt From: Dominate Me
I shouldn't be here. I looked around the room and my stomach fluttered with nervousness. I bit my lip and turned to walk out. No matter what my body thought it wanted, my head was pushing me to leave the club. I almost made it to the door when my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Elli, don't you dare leave."
"Monty? Are you here?" I couldn't see her, but the club was crowded. How did she know I was going to leave?
"No. But I'm well versed in the ways of Elli. Give it a chance. You'll never learn if you want this if you don't try."
"I should've never told you about my fantasy."
"Yes, you should have. That's what friends are for. Now go find a table and sit down. Tell me all about it tomorrow."
"Okay." I resigned myself to sitting in a corner for a few hours and going home. I hated social situations and the only reason I was here was because of some stupid flyer and talking to Monty about what I'd thought I wanted.
I hung up the phone and waded through to a dark corner.
The ad said Dark Encounters was the place to be if you were into BDSM. Tonight was some kind of mixer to attract new members. Once I'd seen the flyer my body had gone on alert. Then I had to go and tell Monty how the idea had intrigued me. She'd talked me into this hair-brained scheme, and she hadn't even had the decency to come with me. No, she'd made up some lame excuse about her boyfriend needing her for something.
I was lost in thought when he showed up. He wasn't the most attractive man I'd ever seen, but he exuded power and strength with his every movement, he owned the room. His hair was short and black with a little silver weaved through it. He must have been close to forty. That wasn't too bad against my thirty-five. I couldn't really tell what colour his eyes were. They were hidden in the shadow. The man was tall and stocky with a square jaw and high cheekbones, rugged in appearance as if he'd forgotten to shave. The shadow of a beard fit his over all look.
"Is this seat taken?"
