You know, the new one?” He sat back a little and watched her. “I hear it’s tough to get reservations.” “Yep.” She sighed. “He went above and beyond to impress. So, there it is.” “I’m confused.” He tilted his head to one side. “He romanced you and that means he’sa jerk?” She tsked. “No, he tried too hard. Went to great lengths. I should’ve known he’dhave a sell-by date.” He chuckled. “Sell-by date, huh?” She found her lips curving upward. “That’s awful, right?” He shrugged as he took a swig of his dark beer. “Not at all. What’s awful isleaving you here alone on a Friday night.” “And I just got the best news too. Asshole,” she muttered.
“Yeah?” What harm was there in telling a stranger? “I landed a job that I’ve been wanting,”she explained, as she stared at her long-stemmed glass. “I was hoping tocelebrate with him.” God, she’d been so happy before Jake’s text. For onemoment in time, she’d been on top of the world. He just had to go and ruin it. “So, celebrate with me instead.” Her head jerked his way and she could see the sincerity in those gorgeous blues.“You’re serious,” she guessed. He grinned and tossed back the last of his beer. “I am. A beautiful woman shouldnever celebrate alone. That’s a terrible crime.” Electricity sizzled along her nerve endings, but her brain was firing warning shots at her.“I don’t even know you.” He held up both hands as if in surrender. “I’m harmless and we don’t need to doanything crazy. We don’t even need to leave this bar.” “Harmless? No way do I believe that.” She paused then added, “You don’t expect sex? Mostguys expect sex if they buy drinks for a woman.” He pointed to his empty bottle. “You can buy me drinks then,” he said, his voicesofter now as he leaned a little closer. “After all, you’re the bigshot with the new job.” She couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled forth. “Maybe this night isn’t a total loss, after all.” He winked, then tapped her nose. “That’s the spirit.” Damn, the man was cute and she was a sinking ship. Lauren knew it. Could see thewriting on the wall. Did she care? Nope. Should she get up and walk out now?Sure. Was she going to? Not a freaking chance.

He watched her walk around his townhouse. All she wore was the tank top and panties and Alex wanted to eat her up. Her round bottom beckoned him to stroke and play. Her long, shapely legs were sexy as hell.
Lauren caressed the back of his black, Italian leather couch with a single fingertip. She still wore the handcuffs. To his surprise, she hadn’t insisted he remove them. She went to the fireplace mantle and picked up a photo of his parents. It was back when they were still married. During their happier days.
“She’s pretty. You have her eyes, I think,” she replied as she replaced the picture.
Every move she made drove him higher. Some guys watched football games as a hobby. Alexander would be content to watch Lauren. The way she moved was beauty and grace. Her spunky attitude was sexy. But the vulnerability that she’d let slip during their argument was addictive. Made him want to protect her from the big bad world.
Instinct told him Lauren had shared a part of herself with him that she’d never shown another living soul. His lie had split her open and left her raw. Alexander would show her that she could be or feel anything she wanted and he would always be there to see her through it. If he could, he’d take away all her fears and doubts and replace them with love and warmth. He’d encase her in a cocoon so protective she’d never doubt him again.
Since he couldn’t do that, he would show her in other ways. He crossed the room and turned her to face him. “I don’t want to discuss my parents.”
Her head tilted to the side. “No?”
He took hold of the handcuffs and tugged. “You want them off?”
She stared down at them, then shrugged. “I’ve never done this before. I’m sort of intrigued.”
His c**k flexed against his slacks. Without another word, Alexander brought Lauren into his bedroom, then to the bathroom beyond. He flipped on the light and pointed to the tub. “Your picture last night turned me on. I want to see you that way again. This time I plan to touch you. Play with you.”
“I haven’t forgiven you yet,” she replied, her voice a little too quiet and calm.
“Then I’d best get to groveling, huh?”
She eyed him up and down. “You don’t look the type.”
“It’ll be a first, I admit.”
“Proceed then.”
She was in a mood and Alexander wanted more of it. Liked the bossy side of her. Relinquishing control would be another first for him. But for Lauren he was willing…
