Research Problem #456

Doing background on culturally appropriate desserts for my character. Am now cravingthe pastries and sweets from back home (Guyana) and have spent the last 5 minutes looking at photos ofmithai(fried dough drizzled in icing sugar, cinnamon, and other assorted yummy spices and nuts), and getting progressively hungrier.

Got an email from a parent saying their child had read Guardian, they too had read Guardian, and where could they get the sequel. What a lovely way to start my week.

International Cat Day

was yesterday and it’s all about celebrating cats–extra cuddles, amazing food, the nicest spot to sleep on the bed—or as we call it in this house, every day.

When students ask me why I write…

I tell them it’s because stories matter. And inevitably, there comes a discussion on whichstories are important. Which are the ones you keep, which are the ones you discard? There’s a tendency for them—for all of us—to believe a story has to be big and important for it to be worthwhile.
This isn’t true. At least, not in my mindset.
