Natasha Deen's family moved from Guyana, South America to Canada to escape the country's political & racial violence. She loved growing up in a country of snow & flannel, but often felt out of place. Thank goodness for books that showed her being different could also mean being awesome. Natasha lives in Edmonton, Alberta with her family where she spends A LOT of time arguing with her cats and dogs about who’s the boss of the house. Visit her at www.natashadeen.com. ...more

Keep. Writing.

Take a break and walk away for a day.

Go out and do something fun.

Often, my writer's block is because I'm trying to write perfect instead of just getting it on the page. Sometimes dropping the standard from "It must be perfect" to "there must be words on the page" can be extremely helpful.(less)

This story broke me in the best ways. A fully understandable character, a family tragedy that isn't solved by the last page. JANT is real, relatable, story that will stick with you long after the last page has been read.

“for us to get to our final destination, the road is not always level or smooth. Sometimes it’s full of rocks and cliffs, and slippery slopes, and to make matters worse, we’re walking in the dark. Perhaps life isn’t to question the road, but to persevere until the light comes.”
Natasha Deen, The Promise of Home

“it’s stupid to think that listening to God means your life will be easy.” I stared at him, daring him to justify his comment. “Jesus listened to God all the time, and his life sucked. People called him names, his friends betrayed him, and he was murdered.” He gave me a meaningful look, and then turned back to the road. “He was God’s only Son. If anyone knew what God wanted, it was Him.”
