Patchwork

The Redemption 4 digital doc, if I were to liken it to something solid, looks like a semi finished patchwork blanket, the type of blanket that is made with strangely shaped fabric pieces and colourful thread. Patches are missing. Some of the sewing is half finished. Some of the older sewing is getting picked out and redone with different thread. New patches are being placed on old patches, old patches ripped out as a result. And then, on top of all that, scraps of fabric intended for the next blanket litter the expanse, shoved into crevices between sewing where they stick out and attract attention, because they are all a radically different colour than the rest of the blanket, just so I remember to tug them out before handing the finished blanket over.

I have so many ideas for this novel and the succeeding novels that I have no choice but to work like this, smooshing all the pieces in one place where I am reminded of what was, what is and what will be. But it’s kind of satisfying to see all the pieces fall in their proper places, though the threads are all straggly and need tightening to make everything look nice.

No date for publishing still. Sorry. I am working despite illness and a messy mind, as in my concentration sucks and I still struggle with fatigue.

I am considering crowd funding for proper artist created covers for each novel. It’s a daunting concept. I wonder if anyone would want to crowd fund covers for my work. I wonder if I have enough of a fan base, not for the funding, but to spread the word that I need funding. I am not a Twitter, G+ or Facebook socialite. You won’t see huge numbers of followers on any, partly because I don’t follow back just to boost the numbers.

The crowd funding idea came back into my head because of the Disposition set cover. I have never been happy with the cover for that set, not the old one or the latest one. Before I had the pulmonary embolisms, I was working on another clean up of the series prior to getting the novels loaded up on CreateSpace to become print books again. Lulu had my business before that, but I withdrew the print novels when the charges for galleys became ridiculous when combined with too expensive shipping fees. At that time, Lulu combined the eBook sale with the print book sale, which hiked the costs for readers horrifically and hindered sales in general. I have always tried to keep my eBooks reasonably priced considering there are no trees to chop, paper to pulp and ink to splatter over the pages. I cancelled all my print books for that reason alone. One year later, Lulu finally offered eBooks as a separate sales venue, but I never liked those galley costs

So I finally looked at CreateSpace a year ago, and the idea of individual covers passed through my mind and then of course I shrugged it off as unfeasible financially. Until crowd funding passed through my Twitter feed. Then I was like, “Oh! Maybe I should…” And then I backed off again because, “Oh, some people get upset with my stories because of the horror content. I’ll just get hate-you comments from strange people who can’t tell when horror content is meant as horror.” So being a total chicken, I edged off from crowd funding.

But I want nice covers for my stories. Sadness. I am not a graphics artist.

If I back off from crowd funding again, which I might because I don’t think I can handle the stress right now (sick person here), I will try to at least create a Disposition cover I can be happy with.

Oh, and I will finally get those little fixes for the Disposition set loaded up onto all the ebook venues (Smashwords, Amazon, etc.) That will feel nice to have done.
