New covers and gratitude

Image from Sex and Quantum Physics.
I am getting new covers beginning with Bound in Stone: Volume One of The Soulstone Chronicles.
Deviation: Many of you may have noticed a longish absence from G+ and elsewhere on my part. I do that regularly. I make like a grumpy old cat hiding under a dresser and just don’t come out for a while. I don’t usually give a reason. I tend to keep my personal inner darkness private. Like a cat, I show up when I feel like it. When a cat shows up again, it’s because it feels better, comfortable, sociable. Same for me. That’s probably the best time to see a cat. Or me.
And now I shall wander over to the original topic of this post, the new covers. I signed a contract with an artist to get started with new covers for the series. I want to make print versions available again. I don’t want to share one cover between several books in a story arc any longer. I want to have one cover for each book. I’ve wanted this for a long time. And now it is happening.
Something I did not say publicly, but many months ago, a fan offered to become a patron. Paul Squassoni and I were communicating occasionally beforehand, and during one email, I was whining about how I hated my cover for the Disposition set and how I so far hadn’t been able to get something satisfactory done for it. Suddenly he offered to help finance commissioned artwork.
I was floored. I can’t clearly describe how I felt. Floored is pretty decent, but elated could work too. I was experiencing an oxymoron state. Even that description doesn’t seem sufficient to describe how I felt.
I first discovered Paul’s existence after he left a review for The Soulstone Chroniclesseries on the Amazon page for Bound in Stone: Volume One. He had recognized a tantric theme to my series. He pointed out aspects of my writing other reviewers had yet to mention. He named famous authors and compared me to them, authors whose work I have never read. He gave me the biggest, hugest grin in a long while when I read that review, because he totally ‘got’ what I was doing. He didn’t get stalled at the horror/dark fiction elements of the first two novels. He took in the scope of the entire series and gave this author a sense of accomplishment that continues to this day.
I don’t think I can thank him enough for that. When I get really down, when I doubt myself, I have only to look at that review and know there exists within me a productive, positive person who has a goal worth aiming for. No matter how dark my inner world seems to get, that little bit of light helps guide me back to ‘me’.
Back to the covers. Paul offered to help with financing them, and I was floored. I had a particular artist in mind back then, but that didn’t work out, sadly. So I looked for another artist. A few days ago, I found someone. I will post about her another time. Right now, this post is for Paul Squassoni. Thank you for supporting this old cat, even when she is hiding beneath a dresser.
You can find Paul’s book Sex and Quantum Physics on Amazon.
And here is another review on his blog. It is long overdue that I thanked him for this as well.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
