Ford Gehrig likes everything hard—his racing and his sex life. His career driving stock trucks is riding high. He’s a top performing rookie. Club Desire fulfills his needs for pain in his pleasure. But even a strong man has his breaking point. His wounds run deep and won’t be easy to overcome. Will the club be his salvation or his downfall?

Master Zane knows the rough side of the club well. He’s been at Desire longer than many of the Doms. Few subs turn his head like Ford. He wants the hot blond on his table, against his cross and in his bed. Nothing at the club comes easily, but Zane’s not one to give up. Will he be able to pierce the protective walls around Ford’s heart, or will his own past be the barrier he can’t destroy?

Only time, some cuffs and a few spankings will tell if this tied desire is meant to last.

EXCERPT:

“Stand. I want you to sit on the couch with me.” Zane offered his hand.

Albeit tentatively, Ford cooperated. He rose and followed the Master to the oversized leather sofa. For the first time since he’d entered Zane’s private space, he glanced around. Instead of the stark look of T’s room, this one was decorated in rich burgundys and navys. A couple floor lamps provided light. The standard bondage bed and a mattress on a platform completed the otherwise lush look.

“We need to talk. Please sit.” Zane’s words forced Ford to look at him. “Were you happy with T?”

Ford eased down beside Zane, not touching the larger man. Should he answer honestly? Might as well. “I enjoyed our time together.”

But I’d rather he’d have been you. Oh shit. He couldn’t admit that.

Ford allowed himself to ogle Zane. Full muscle in every part of his body, his arms were both sleeved in tattoos and a thick leather X crisscrossed his sculpted chest. A barbell decorated his right nipple. His leather pants molded around his strong legs.

For the first time since Ford had come to Desire, he looked Zane in the face. Scruff darkened his thin cheeks and dark lashes ringed his eyes. His black hair stood in spikes and twin earrings dangled from his left ear. He didn’t have telltale smile lines around his mouth. Didn’t the man grin at anything? Ford doubted Zane could be sad with all of the sexy men and women at his disposal.

Zane’s brown eyes narrowed, and the crinkles formed at his brow. “Somehow, I don’t believe you enjoyed being with T.” He trailed his fingers down Ford’s cheek. “He claims you get off on name calling and degradation. I don’t buy that. I can see you getting off on the power shift, but not the other. You seem too timid—in a good way—for that harsh of treatment.”

Ford pressed his lips together to keep from gawking. In less than a minute, Zane had read him well. “You’re correct, Sir.”

“I want to start there. I’ve watched you in action. I know what you like and don’t like, but I want to hear you tell me your boundaries.”

“No needles or blood. I’m squeamish. Don’t choke me or abuse me. I can take pain, and I’ll use my safe word when I get to my limits.” Ford held his head high. “I enjoy the paddle, being restrained and sucking cock.”

“Very good.” Zane curled his fingers beneath Ford’s chin. “What’s your safe word?”

“Biscuit, Sir.”

“Nice.” Zane nodded. “Since T has seen fit to toss you back into the submissive pool, I’m stepping in. You’re mine. Do you wish to play?”

All of Ford’s desires and fantasies were coming true. Sure, he hadn’t wanted to part with T, but if he could spend time with Zane, then perfect. Ford wished he’d worn appropriate clothing for a scene, but who cared. He didn’t. Time to channel his sorrow into something sexy.

Ford placed the still full beer bottle on the floor, folded his hands and bowed his head. “Yes, Sir. I’d like to play.”

Horse

Horse by Tilly Greene

historical western erotic romance

Book 1 in The Bloody Bucket Series

While living in Ireland farming peat, Jack Murphy knew there was no way he’d follow the time honored tradition for second sons to dedicate themselves to the church. He liked women too much, so with the blessing of his parents, he left for a new life in America. New York City held his attention for a couple years but he grew tired of the violent side of life he took on and boarded a train south and west to Cowler Texas. His first night in town he finds himself sitting at a poker table with the saloon in the pot. No way did he think he’d win, but if he did, well, it was worth a chance.

After gaining the name Horse, two gun fights and a sexy woman wearing spectacles collide, he finds the life he always wanted.

Excerpt [rated R]

A random movement over his opponent’s shoulder caught his eye and he looked.

Someone raced by the doorway again, and this time he caught a few details. He saw a tiny woman with brown hair, wearing light blue. She didn’t pause in the doorway, but kept running back and forth. Sometimes she carried a bundle and other times she’d have nothing. Drink muddled his brain enough so Jack doubted whether there was actually a woman or not. Over the hours he’d sat in the saloon he believed he’d seen all the ladies. This particular one wasn’t familiar because she had dark hair.

The wee sight of freshness in a pool of painted ladies immediately appealed to his libido. Strumpets had a job to do and he partook of their expertise when he had the money, except he wasn’t looking to spend more time with them than he had to. A morsel of sweetness would be like a breath of fresh air.

As he watched the woman dash back and forth without catching many details, his cock hardened for the first time all night.

“Lordy me, feels like the horny paddy has the cock of a horse in his trousers. Let’s take a look,” the doxy in his lap screeched with laughter. She reached down and started to unfasten his trousers, but he covered her hands to make her stop. Silently, he watched as the beautiful flower poked her head in the doorway and Jack got his first look at her.

What a surprise. From the distance he could see she wore a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and they were slipping down her nose. Her dress was hitched up and he noticed a pair of worn black boots a young boy would normally wear. In what looked like a well-practiced move, she tied over a faded yellow kerchief over her hair. For a second, seeing her hair covered in such a way reminded him of home.

Unable to stop looking, he smiled and set the woman from his lap on her feet. It was wrong to be attracted to and flirt with one lady while another rolled around his erection with her bosom in his face.

“Let’s go, you fucking bastard. Let’s get this done. I want poke to Sara and get some sleep.” It seemed the man he played against hadn’t liked the comparison of Jack’s penis to one of a horse. Laughing to himself, he had to assume the man didn’t measure up and wanted to move away from the finding. Good, the man was flustered. He had one final verbal jab to make before he agreed to play.

Cereus: Rescue

Cereus: Rescue, the fourth book in the paranormal m/m Cereus series written by Sean Michael, Julia Talbot and BA Tortuga is available now from Torquere Press!

Blurb:

Even the strongest paranormal creature can need a rescue, as proven by the three stories in Cereus: Rescue. In Free Demons, by Julia Talbot and BA Tortuga, when demon Bel goes to the Cereus resort, he’s fleeing his father, the king of a demon dimension. When his bodyguard of old shows up, Bel thinks Xerxes is there to take him home, but Xerxes wants them to be free to be together.

In Sean Michael’s Spirit Bear, Lightning has been captive for a long time, but the werebear is rescued, and Etu takes him in, teaching him that love knows no boundaries, and that safety can be super-sexy. In Babysitting Job, by BA and Julia, Devon is sent by Cereus owner Jonny to escort vampire Sandro to safety. The two of them fall for each other, but they have to escape Sandro’s stalker in order to be together.

Excerpt:

The mountains shone with the late afternoon sun, the crisp fall day a perfect backdrop for the little deck attached to his private cabin. This time of year in this little corner of the earth made Bel smile, it truly did. His skin loved the humidity, his eyes didn’t burn dry every five seconds, and his lips never cracked and bled.

Oh, he was definitely staying here, especially since a resort like Cereus let him keep his regular form without having to hide his horns. And his tail.

Fuck being a prince of the fortieth level of hell. He was totally happy as an upper demon paid not to cause problems.

He grinned. Maybe he ought to order room service.

One bowl of popcorn, a nice rare steak and a bottle of tequila. Yum. Maybe he’d see what was on the menu as far as someone to play with, too. Cereus always had a few happy subby types willing to go for hours at a time.

He stretched out, wiggling his toes. How had he gotten so fucking lucky? Oh, right. He made his own damned luck, thank you. No doubt there were folks looking for him. Thankfully, he had a dragon friend who could do cloaking spells.

Honestly, he could spend ten or twelve eternities here, just hanging out.

The phone rang, and Bel jumped about a mile, his heart pounding. Land lines. So shrill.

“Hello?”

“Sir? This is Martin at the front desk. You have a visitor.”

“Really? Animal, mineral or vegetable?”

“I’m fairly sure he’s animal, Sir, although mineral is a distinct possibility.”

“No shit? Does he have a name?” This was a great game.

“Your name, Sir? He says it’s Xerxes, Sir.”

Xerxes. Oh, not fun anymore. Bel grunted. “Tell him I died.”

Xerxes? Here? Son of a motherfucking, flea-ridden, diseased whore!

The huge bastard had been given to him as a youngling. His own personal guard. Big. Dumb. Silent. No wonder Martin wasn’t sure if Xerxes was animal or mineral.

“He’s rather insistent, Sir.”

“Oh, very well. Send him.” Not fair to make the desk clerk deal with the lug.

“Yes, Sir. Right away, Sir.”

God. Just what he needed. Another piece of furniture. And what if his father had sent Xerxes to bring him home?

That would be unfortunate. Also awkward, given that he wasn’t going.

A firm knock sounded.

“Come in.” No one locked their cabins here.

Xerxes walked in, bending to get through the door. With skin like leather and eyes the color of granite, the huge bald man might have made an impression, if Bel hadn’t seen him again and again.

He was like a living statue.

“Was I so easy to find?” Bel asked.

He received a tiny quirk of lips, a half-smile. Damn it.

“So, are you here to drag me back?”

“I’m here for you.”

“What does that mean?” He frowned. That was off script. Xerxes never went off script.

Xerxes stared at him, just quiet and silent.

“You’re back to being a tree. Great.” Bel tugged at his hair, pulling until the curls stood up in agitated tufts.

One eyebrow lifted.

Was that a smile?

Surely not. Xerxes didn’t smile. Bel squinted. “Are you on drugs?”

“Sir?”

Five words. Xerxes could go a year without saying so much. So, Bel plowed on. “You’re smiling. You spoke without being ordered to. I think you might be sick.”

Xerxes just stared at him.

Just stared.

Fucker.

“I think I am going to hit you with that lamp.” Bel pointed at a heavy iron lamp base. “‘Kay?”

That eyebrow went up again. Fuck, that was irritating.

Bel picked up the lamp, unplugging it carefully. Then boom, he raised it and rushed, no more monologue-ing.

Like it was nothing, Xerxes caught the lamp, took it from him and set it down on the floor.

“Damn it! What do you want?”

“You.” And just like that, Xerxes leaned back against the wall and turned to stone.

Bel lost it a bit. He had a dramatic streak. Genetic. He banged on the great wall of chest, beating at Xerxes with closed fists. “No. I am not going back there. I am not going with you. Do you understand?”

His bodyguard, his silent, stern friend just stood there, all statuesque and stone-like and all that happened was Bel’s fists bruised.

Sighing, he dropped his arms to his sides. “I think I’ll get a hamburger. Or a steak. You hungry?”

He knew that Xerxes could eat, and it was one of the challenges, staying well fed up here. When he got no reply, he stuck his tongue out.

“I should make you eat chicken livers.”

Did Xerxes wrinkle his nose? That gave him hope.

“Yep,” Bel went on. “I will get you chicken liver mousse.”

He turned to grab the room phone and he swore he heard, “You can’t make me eat it.”

Bel whirled around, staring.

Xerxes didn’t even blink.

He picked up the phone, keeping one eye on Xerxes. “Hey, James. Can you get me the kitchen?”

“Yes, Sir. Right away.”

“Hey, Bel!”

Oh, lucky him, he’d gotten one of the kitties in person. “Hey. I need steak.”

“Oooh. Rare?”

“Yeah. Enough for, uh, four humans. Fluffy baked potatoes.”

“Butter and bacon?”

He heard, “Sour cream,” from behind him.

Oh, he was going to hurt Xerxes. Except he could barely make a dent.

“Yes, and sour cream on the side. Two big salads. A bottle of pinot noir.” He took a deep breath. “And something huge and decadent for dessert.”

“You got it. You sound stressed.”

“I am. I have unwelcome company.”

“Do I need to get Mik and Van on it?” Mik and Van were Cereus security, and good at it.

“No. No, man.” This was his problem. His Xerxes. His own immovable object. He could put the big doof outside to hang wet bathing suits on.

Oh, he liked that idea. Bathing suits, random wet ski equipment.

Bird poop.

“I wonder if I could get a dolly…”

“Pardon me?”

“You know. A two-wheeled cart.” He flapped a hand. “To move the unmovable.”

“Uh. I’ll see if they can do that in maintenance…” came over the line.

Oh, shit, hon. I forgot I was still on the phone. Just the food.”

“You sure? You’re okay?”

“I’m fine. My bodyguard from home showed.” He loved the kitties, so why not be honest?

“Oh? Oh, that means you can stay, right? We’d miss you if you left.”

“Um. Yeah.” Only not. But Bel could lie like a demon. Heh.

“Yes! Food is coming. Soon, Bel.”

“Thanks, hon.” He did love this place. After he hung up, he put on his determined face and turned to Xerxes. “Not going back.”

Xerxes stared at him.

“You’re maddening.”

That was a grin. A real, slow-spreading smile. Argh. Clenching his hands into fists, he counted to fifty in his native language.

“I’m going to hurt you, you evil bastard.”

“Promise?” ‘

Oh, now, this was too much. “You’re not funny. Or fun. What on earth has gotten into you?”

“I got relieved of duty.”

Bel blinked. Thought about that. Blinked some more. “You mean my father fired you?”

He got another long, silent stare.

Demons weren’t fired. They were banished. Obliterated. So, how did Xerxes manage to get downsized without getting squashed like a bug?

“So, why are you here, then, instead of Aruba or something?”

“You’re here,” Xerxes intoned.

He waved his hands. “But I’m not your job anymore.”

Another stare. Seriously? Bel gave up trying to get Xerxes to tell him anything. “I ordered you food.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. You can sit, you know.”

Xerxes moved to the chair, slowly lowered himself into it. God, that was a big man. Like a muscle mountain. One he would climb like Mallory on Everest.

Oh, wouldn’t that be fun?

“Can you get hard, Xerxes?”

“Pardon?”

“Erect? Getting a boner?” He was just-- Bel knew he was being an ass, but he didn’t know how else to be.

“I have been known to be aroused, yes.”

“By me?” Bel sat, too, curling his legs under him.

“Yes,” Xerxes said. Fascinating. Utterly fascinating.

“Oh.” Bel sat there, trying to figure out his next salvo.

Xerxes watched him, just sat there and stared at him with big gray eyes.

“So, um. You’re on vacation, huh?”

“No.”

“Do you have a wind-up lever? Is your spring run down? Do I need to switch to demon-basic so you can talk?”

“I have spoken more in the last hour than I have in the last twenty five years.”

Bel felt a grin begin to grow, and he pumped a fist in the air. “A sentence! Go me.”

Xerxes’ lips curled up. That was a smile, a real smile. God, it was beautiful. Bel had never seen such a thing and had never expected to.

Xerxes was here. Right here. Staring at him and smiling.

“So. Twister?”

“Pardon me?”

“It’s a game. We could watch a movie.” What did one do with an ex-bodyguard who Bogarted your vacation?

“I play chess.”

“Not as fun as Twister, I promise.” He waggled his brows.

“I will try.”

Oh. Well, that was surprising.

“Seriously?” Dude. He did have a game set thanks to a white elephant party last week.

“You’ll have to tell me the rules.” Xerxes was a big follower of rules.

Bel often disregarded them.

“You know it.” Bel smiled and got the Twister box from a shelf in the wee sitting room.

When he opened the box and spread out the little plastic sheet with dots on it, Xerxes blinked. Once.

Hey, that was an entire day’s worth of expression on that stolid face.

Just wait until he made Xerxes get naked.

Shelby Kincade’s life and movie career were nearly destroyed when Daniel vanished a year ago. Now he’s back, claiming they have been accidentally mated. Getting over him once was hard enough, but she must choose either the life of her dreams or the man she can’t live without. With peace finally on the horizon between the dragon-shifters and the Hunters, an assassination attempt on the dragon king and his mate shatters everything. Tensions rebuild as Daniel and his loyal team of shifters try to discover who put out the hit. Enemy and ally lines are crossed, but in the end--after the battle ash has settled--no one could have foreseen who has plotted for their own gain.

CONTENT WARNING: Graphic fight scenes, lots of great sex, and hot, hot, hot dragon men. A Lyrical Press Urban Fantasy Romance

Excerpt:

A furious Daniel towered over her.

Realizing she was in an ambulance, she scooted back on the stretcher, pulling the sheet tighter around herself. Something was very, very off. There was no pain or range of motion issue with her shoulder. There was just a blackness where the last hour should have been. Whatever was wrong with her, it ran core deep, and had everything to do with the man treating her as if she’d caused all the wrongs in his world.

She let out a pathetic snort. He had vanished on her, leaving her to face the last year alone. The media wasn’t forgiving at the best of times, and they’d had a field day--field year--with America’s Good Girl falling from grace. A dead body, and the disappearance of the man accused of the crime, was too good of a story for the media not to run around the clock for a month straight.

It didn’t make any sense why he hated her. For as much hell as he’d caused her in the last eleven months, professionally and personally, nothing had prepared her for the blast of emotions that rocked her at seeing him standing close to her again. She had no idea what to do with the realization she’d missed him. As soon as she figured out what the hell was going on, she needed deep psychological help.

“So.” She was careful to keep her left arm tucked against her stomach as she tried in vain to put more distance between them. It still didn’t hurt, but the thought of ripping the rapidly healing wound open made her queasy. She’d never been a big fan of blood. Her teeth tugged at her bottom lip as she tried not to worry about how much space he took up, even while sitting on the bench. He was huge. “You’re alive.” When he leaned forward, bringing them closer together, she tried to keep her face impassive. Her gaze dropped to the huge forearms he braced against tree trunk-sized thighs, before she snapped her attention back to his face. He was a lunatic who looked to be on the verge of major violence. She wasn’t so confused she didn’t understand the combination was a powder keg with a lit fuse. “I wasn’t sure. The police said you were gone before the ambulance ever got to the hospital.”

“Disappointed, princess?”

She almost snorted at him. She’d spent the last year hoping he was still alive, and trying not to let the uncertainty drive her out of her mind. “I didn’t get myself shot on purpose, you know. So whatever you’re mad at me about, it’s not my fault. I didn’t ask them to call you.”

“Right.” He dragged his gaze from the mark over her heart back to her face. Though she was sure she was imagining it, she could have sworn his eyes lingered on her mouth. “Just like the Hunter showing up in your bedroom was just a weird twist of fate?”

“A hunter?” She asked, certain she was missing a huge part of the conversation. “Daniel, my house was in the most exclusive part of Los Angeles. There isn’t anywhere to hunt.”

“Ryuu.”

She remembered that word from their first date. He’d told her it was an ancient dragon curse because his sister didn’t like him using cuss words. Funny. She’d thought it was sweet at the time. Now she was sure it just made him bat-shit crazy.

Deep within the fortress of Pandora, Lieutenant Vane Schiva has spent millennium guarding precious artifacts and ancient secrets from around the universe. As the son of a decorated commander, he has always been a soldier first, putting the needs of his people before his own desires. So when the compound is breached and he’s sent across the galaxies to track down the thief, he never imagined the assignment would lead him to the only thing he’s ever wanted for himself.

Growing up in New Orleans, Charlotte Rousseau has seen her share of the strange and unexplainable, but everything she thought she knew about the world is about to be tested. What started as any other day, quickly spirals into a nightmarish reality, leaving her no choice but to place her trust—and her life—in a stranger’s hands. Safety comes at a price, though, and Charlotte soon realizes her only chance at survival means leaving behind her fears and following Vane into the fire.

Faced with the threat of war, new alliances are formed and old loyalties are tested in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. While emotions run high and sexual tensions simmer, Vane still guards a dangerous secret, one that could cost him everything in the end. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect Charlotte, though, even if that means turning his back on his own people.

War is easy. Love takes courage.

STORY EXCERPT

Charli looked out of the corner of her eye toward the shops beyond the Square. “So, I think I’m—Jiminy Christmas!”

Standing only inches away, Don towered above her like a giant shadow. The skin on his face and neck rippled—clearly a trick of the dim light—and she could almost feel the annoyance flowing off him.

“Stop talking and follow me.”

“How did you do that? You were there.” She pointed to the cathedral. “Now, you’re here. I don’t understand.”

With a growl that sounded more animal than man, Don grabbed her elbow and shoved her in front of him. “Remember the part where I didn’t want to hurt you?”

Swallowing hard enough to make her throat burn, Charli pressed her lips together and nodded. No matter what she did now, this wouldn’t end well for her.

“Now, stop talking and let’s go.”

“Not going to happen, Morph. Let the girl go.”

Jerking her head up, Charli sighed in relief at the sight of a man, just as big and just as imposing as her psycho date, standing beyond the entrance of the church. Acting on instinct, she wrenched her arm away from Don and hurried up the stairs, tucking herself behind the newcomer.

“I don’t know who you are or where you came from, but just consider me your biggest fan.”

The guy didn’t respond other than a low grunt, but he did pull her closer to his back, positioning himself between her and Don. “Give it up, Morph. The jewel is worthless without the girl and you know it. Just hand it over.”

“Girl? What girl? Me girl?” I’m never dating again. If I make it home alive, I’m going to adopt six cats and learn to knit. “What jewel? What do I have to do with this?”

“Not now,” the new guy answered with a quick shake of his head. “I’m a little busy saving your life, if you hadn’t noticed.”

“Oh, right, sorry. Proceed.”

Charli couldn’t be sure, but she thought the corner of his lips twitch into a fleeting smile before he addressed Don again. “What’s it going to be, Morph? We can do this the easy way or the hard way, but both end with that jewel in my hand.”

“Oh,” Charli complimented, “that was good.”

There it was again, no mistaking it this time, a subtle, blink-and-miss-it twitch of his lips. Pushing up on her tip toes, she peered over his shoulder to see Don’s reaction. She didn’t know what she’d expected, but seeing her date turn into a plume of smoke and then vanish certainly hadn’t topped the list.

Her rescuer just sighed. Charli, however, was in the midst of a panic attack.

“Did you see that? What was that? Holy smokes, and I guess I mean that literally since we’re in front of a church, and he just…well, you saw him! Did that really happen?” Her heart pounded frantically against her sternum, making her voice shake and stutter as she spoke. “No, this can’t be happening. This can’t happen.”

“Charlotte, I need you to take a deep breath and relax.”

“I’m relaxed. Why? Do I not seemed relaxed? I guess I’m just not used to people turning into freaking clouds of smoke in the middle of the French Quarter.” Taking a couple of steps back, she dropped her purse to the ground and bent over to rest her hands on her knees while she sucked in deep gulps of oxygen. “It’s a character flaw. I’ll work on it.”

The guy, whoever he was, actually laughed as he pulled her upright by her shoulders. “You are very unusual, even for a human.”

“What’s that supposed to mean? For a human?” Great, only with her luck would the hero turn out to be just as insane as the villain. “Wait, how do you know my name?”

His gaze traveled along the curve of her neck, over her jawline, and finally up to her eyes. “I know a lot about you, Charlotte Rousseau.” Capturing a flyaway strand of hair, he tucked it behind her ear with a peculiar twist of his lips. “I am Lieutenant Vane Schiva, and I was sent here to protect you.”

My Sexy Sensei

blurb

Lisa Hampton is as committed in her career as a martial artist as she is to her management career as a CPA, but a woman in the traditional Japanese martial arts is seldom taken seriously...especially by men.

At least not until one hot and hunky man takes her very seriously.
James Rhee runs his own brand of martial arts studio, teaching movie stars who want to shine in their onscreen stunts. A highly commercialized way of teaching that Lisa genuinely feels uncomfortable with. She prefers to teach dedicated students for the right reasons.

But she soon finds it’s damn hard to refuse the maddening man anything…including her body. Before she knows it, she’s let her guard down and sinfully sizzling sex has turned into something she simply can’t fight.

Excerpt copyright 2014
by Fran Lee

“An instructor receives a base salary plus commissions on private lessons. Private lessons are a hundred and eighty dollars an hour. The instructor keeps half. We try to schedule at least three private lessons daily and one group per day for each instructor. To earn your base salary you’ll be asked to teach four group classes a week in the big classroom.”

I stared at him. “Your students must be made of money to pay such rates.”

“We’re the best. We give our customers exactly what they need and want. We make stars here. We tutor actors and actresses in the martial arts. People pay high prices to get the best.” He let his gaze move down my suit. “I can guarantee you’ll make one hell of a lot more than just basic salary. There’s a market for what we sell here.” His dark eyes traveled over my flushed face. “We sell results. We sell our skills, and despite their youth and their lack of good manners my instructors are the best. Each one of them is a world-class champion competitor or fighter.” His smile was quietly enigmatic.

I lifted my brows, feeling oddly like a fish out of water. “Then what am I doing here? I haven’t been in a competition anywhere. I have no world championship titles and I certainly have never taught the way you do. I don’t know if I can teach that way.” My stomach was still tight. I felt as if I were babbling again.

“Our students don’t come for a full training course. Most come asking for specifics. Only a very few are beginners.” He shrugged and I nearly swallowed my tongue as those massive shoulders rippled under that incredibly tight shirt. “Many of them already have advanced rank. We tutor according to each student’s ability. About half of our students have brown belts or higher in some style or other. And in answer to your first question, you’re here because you have the look my students expect in my teachers.”

I blinked, my cheeks red. “Look? What look is that?”

“You walk like a tigress and look like an angel. You have that aura of danger lurking just below the calm surface, deceptively sweet and beautiful yet fully capable of inflicting extreme damage when necessary.”

I felt my cheeks heat to crimson. “Well. No one ever told me that before.” I drew a deep breath and exhaled carefully. “So you hired me more for what I look like than for what I can teach?” My stomach was still trying to launch itself through my throat.

Damn it. Why am I so affected by every look and smile from him?

“Of course not, but only one woman in ten thousand has your combination of looks and abilities and I have the feeling that you could make a great deal of money working here if you wanted to.”

Shaking away the teeny-bopper infatuation, I gazed up at him. “I’ve never taught this way before. I don’t think I can do it.”

“You’ll never know until you’ve tried.” His dark eyes measured my expression.

“I genuinely don’t think I can do that.”

“I think you can.”

I shook my head adamantly. “I teach traditional values and techniques. I teach from the ground up and I don’t feel comfortable showing advanced techniques to people who simply wish to impress a director with their karate skills.”

Oh God, don’t look at me like that. My scintillating dream rose to haunt me.

He gazed at me for a long moment before saying quietly, “If I came to you and asked you to show me the right way to hold a spear, would you do it?”

I frowned. “That’s different. You have control and skill and I would know that you wouldn’t hurt yourself or another person with what I taught you.” He was too damn persuasive. I was losing ground and I hadn’t even tried to climb.

“It’s no different. Our students are learning a skill to use in their work.” He ran a lean hand through his thick black hair. “Like the ballet instructor who teaches balance and poise at a modeling school. Those women will never become ballerinas, but those skills will enhance their chances of looking good in their chosen profession.”

“I never really thought about it like that. You’ve made your point.”

Fran Lee Romance

Bio

My name is Fran Lee, and I write sizzling hot, delicious romance that leaves a reader wanting more. I write erotic contemporary, erotic paranormal, erotic shape shifter, erotic cowboy and just plain erotic...but always with a happily ever after. I love to add a dash (or three) of humor even in the hottest stories. I want readers to enjoy my books on many levels.

I began writing many years ago but never submitted anything to a publisher until the mid eighties. I found an agent that absolutely loved my stuff, and together we amassed a ton of reject letters...always saying the same thing..."too erotic for our house" or "Try Penthouse or Playboy".

So I packed away my too hot books and went about my life for a few more years (twenty-three to be exact) until I found a book by Jaid Black. Ecstatic that someone, somewhere, might like my book, I submitted to Ellora's Cave. And got another reject. What?

"Not hot enough".

Well, the rest is history. I learned to turn loose that inner siren and let 'er rip. I now have twenty-five books, novellas, short stories, and print books to my credit, and have begun to self-publish, as well.

Cupid

Book blurb:

As a postman by day, and one of Santa’s reindeer on a single very special night, Cassius Cupid eats, sleeps, and breathes deliveries. He doesn’t mind, but sometimes wishes that someone would send him something more exciting than bills and junk mail.

One cold January morning, Cassius gets his wish. A young woman arrives with a parcel. Turns out it’s for his housemate – but Cassius doesn’t care. All he’s interested in is Carina – the beautiful female courier.

Has Cupid finally met his match?

Excerpt:

Cassius Cupid woke with a start, and then sat bolt upright in his bed. Shit, I’m going to be late! was his first thought.

Milliseconds later his brain switched on, and he remembered. He was on holiday. Flopping back onto the warm mattress and pillows with a contented sigh, he smiled. No work for fourteen whole days—it was going to be utter bliss. He stretched, relishing the feeling it created in his sleep-softened muscles. Ahhh…this is the life.

He knew he wouldn’t go back to sleep—hell, it was eight o’clock, which was practically the middle of the day for someone in his profession—so Cassius fell to thinking about how he was going to spend his day, not to mention the several others in front of him. God knew he deserved to relax and have some fun. He’d just emerged from the busiest part of his year, and he was more than ready to do some chilling out.

He enjoyed his job as a postman—he really did—but the Christmas period was a total killer. He idly wondered how many cards and presents he’d delivered over the past few weeks. It didn’t bear thinking about. Once you factored in the festive period itself, the weird few days between Christmas and New Year, and then the flurry of mail that got sent when everyone went back to work properly at the beginning of January, he’d racked up some serious deliveries. And that was before you even thought about his other job—which was for just one day a year, but was arguably more important than the other 364 put together.

Cassius—or Cupid, as he was known to his boss and colleagues in his second, but most important job—was not only a regular postman for the Royal Mail, but also a reindeer. For a single day of the year, Cassius had the supernatural power to transform into one of Santa’s faithful steeds and help pull that famous magical sleigh, delivering presents to excited children the world over.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Cassius really did eat, sleep and breathe deliveries, but not for the next fourteen days. All he planned to do was watch some TV, read some books, maybe go out hiking, meet some friends… basically anything that wasn’t delivering something to someone. Hey, he might even receive something through the post himself—preferably not the usual crap; bills and junk mail. He didn’t hold out much hope.

He lounged in bed for another ten minutes before realising he was lying there just for the sake of it. Being on holiday didn’t have to equal staying in bed all day—and certainly not for someone as active as him. He reached over to his bedside table, grabbed his glasses and put them on. Throwing off his thick duvet, he walked to his bedroom window and peeked out through the curtains, immediately glad of the effective central heating he and his housemate had forked out to have installed the previous year.

The outside world was covered in a thick layer of snow, and Cassius was mightily glad that he wasn’t out delivering letters and parcels. The stuff was treacherous enough without having to carry a heavy bag up and down driveways, paths, and pavements — most of which either hadn’t been cleared, or had been cleared badly, leaving incredibly slippery patches of ground for an unsuspecting postie to come across. God knows he’d gone down enough times, but, much to his relief, nobody had ever seen him do it. He’d always been relatively unharmed—excerpt for his pride, of course—and had been able to scramble back to his feet and carry on.

The eerie silence outside was broken by the rumble of an engine, and Cassius turned his head to look up the street—he lived in a cul-de-sac, so he knew that’s where the vehicle would come from—and watched as a delivery van made its way slowly and carefully down the road. He hoped the driver was sensible enough to try and steer over the thickest parts of the snow—the more people went over and over the same patches, packing it down, the more the road surface resembled an ice rink. And since the cul-de-sac was on a slight hill, it was easy enough to get stuck. He’d seen it so many times—even going outside one time last winter to suggest the driver go down to the bottom of the road, turn around and try reversing up the hill—an almost foolproof plan for vans with rear-wheel drive. He’d gotten a big thumbs-up for that suggestion as the driver finally got to the junction where the road became flat, and went on his merry way.

As the van drew closer to his house, he saw that the driver was a woman. That would explain her cautious driving—he’d never admit it to one of his drinking buddies, but women were far superior when it came to driving in adverse weather conditions. He even thought he’d seen some survey containing statistics that proved it.

Blake's Home

Today, Cheryl Dragon is joining me with a look at her book Blake's Home!

Blurb: Plenty of men have tried to get ranch hand Blake Louis to The Love Shack but none succeed. At the White family ranch, Blake has found friends and a home. He desperately wants to stay. Yet he must keep his shifter secret and avoid his feelings for Jared White. This job has to work out. No one ever wanted him forever—none of his family did—so why would a rich successful rancher want more than a roll in the hay with a dirt poor ranch hand?

Screwing the staff is a bad idea but Jared White needs more than sex from Blake. The men are friends but he’ll risk it for a chance at more. Love has never worked for Jared and a childhood rival delights in sabotaging him. Jared can’t give up hope. He believes that Blake is the one.

The only smart place to start is The Love Shack, a neutral place where Jared isn’t the boss and Blake isn’t the hand. Determined to win Blake’s heart, Jared delves into Blake’s past. As amazing as the sex is, Blake resists sweet promises. Love, trust, and happiness are as crazy to Blake as the bobcat he can shift into.

Excerpt: Streamers and balloons dotted the wide yard behind the massive house so no one missed the party, as if anyone could. The massive outdoor barbecue was an acre of people solid. Nonessential work at the White Ranch was suspended for the sixty-fifth birthday of the patriarch and owner. The families from the three bordering ranches and their staff were also invited.

Blake Louis hadn’t seen that many people outside a big city, and he rarely went to the city. His muscles ached for any excuse to hop on a horse and ride out into the open fields. As a ranch hand here for all of four months, he knew the White family, but everyone else was just by reputation and gossip.

After working his hour at the barbeque, Blake hung back and helped where needed. He didn’t have shiny new boots, crisp collared shirts, or even new jeans. The event was far from black tie, but even the White boys brought out their best hats and boots for the occasion. So Blake just watched, content in the fact that he liked his new job and had eaten his fill of excellent barbeque.

A well-built man with curly brown hair nodded to Blake from several feet away. Blake smiled and almost looked behind him. His attempt to be invisible had failed. The man was from the Chester ranch and had been strictly hanging with that group most of the day. It took time, but Blake was starting to catch on about some of the rivalries and egos. Even on a huge Montana ranch, politics and games still happened. That didn’t mean Blake couldn’t enjoy the view of hot men.

Blake stoked the fire and pretended not to notice the attractive man coming closer. The four ranches were neighborly and competitive at the same time. Blake was still new and didn’t want to step on the wrong toes. The flutter of arousal was hard to ignore.

“Are you the master chef?” the man asked.

Blake lifted his worn hat and wiped his forehead. “No, not me. Just a ranch hand helping out. I’m not the best at being social. Blake Louis.”

The other man extended his hand. “Randy. Nice to meet you, Blake. You should circulate and meet some new people.”

Shaking Randy’s hand, Blake felt a playful squeeze. The sexual undercurrent tormented him. “I’m fairly new to White’s Ranch. It’s a big place with plenty of work.”

“Gotta have some fun, though. It’s a party.” Randy took two steps closer and slowly pulled Blake in a bit before releasing his hand. “I haven’t seen you at the Love Shack. You should come by the Chester ranch some time. No work, just a ride or something. It’s nice to have fresh blood around here.”

Fresh blood? The term left Blake uneasy. “A good ride is a nice way to spend a day off.”

“I’ll hold you to that,” Randy said.

Blake nodded as Randy was called away by one of his earlier companions. Avoiding major personal entanglements was a goal of Blake’s, and he’d managed to succeed since getting this job. He wanted to find a place to settle, and this place had potential. Moving on all the time had grown old.

None of his previous employers had treated employees as well as the Whites did. The family members worked every bit as hard as the staff and weren’t snobs. The pay was better than fair, and the food was great. Blake wanted a future here.

The only problem was the crush Blake had on the sexy youngest son, Jared White. Over the months the attraction had grown to friendship and a longing for something more. Blake did his best to hide his affection, but Jared was friendly.

The target of Blake’s interest crossed his path, and he stopped short. “You did your time, you’re supposed to be enjoying yourself.”

Blake grinned at his biggest temptation. The man was just shy of thirty and haunted Blake’s dreams. “I was just people watching.”

The fact that Jared was the main guy he’d been watching until Randy had interrupted him hopefully remained a secret. Jared had short black hair, blue eyes, and plenty of muscles to make women and men stare. A sturdy six feet two, Jared made it hard for Blake not to lean on that sexy shoulder. But Blake had years of practice at self-control on many levels.

Jared made this job complicated for Blake. Every place he’d worked, he ran into an issue. White’s was a nice place. Crushing on the boss’s baby boy wasn’t smart—even if Blake was two years younger than Jared. Blake had bigger reasons to stay away and his shifter secret was harder to explain than his turbulent childhood.

“I’ve been trying to drag him to the keg, but he’s trying to impress you.” Frankie Saunders wandered up next to Jared.

Blake shot the other ranch hand a look that said shut up! Frankie was a lean, mean, blond, spiky-haired, gay flirting machine in his mid-thirties who loved to stir any pot nearby. He’d become Blake’s friend and the only one who knew about his crush. However, thanks to the picnic, Blake had learned that gay wasn’t something that needed to be a secret here.

“You’re a hard worker, Blake. Enjoy your time off. We don’t do huge parties like this all the time. Come to the Shack tonight and have some fun.” Jared smiled and patted Blake’s shoulder.

Hank, the oldest of the White boys, called Jared over, and the sexy cowboy was gone. Blake stopped flexing and relaxed.

Frankie’s grin got even bigger. “We need to go to the Shack tonight. He invited you. Take the hint and hit on him already. Or is Randy more your type? Playing hard to get was smart. Jared noticed.”

“I don’t know Randy at all, and he came up to me. But he mentioned the Shack too. Jared is basically my boss. I don’t want to screw this up. He’s just being nice.” Blake looked out at the crowd and felt like he was being watched. “All these people are making me nervous.”

Frankie shrugged. “There is some checking out the competition at these events. Enjoy the eye candy while it’s here. You have more options than Jared, if doing the boss is so scary.”

“The Love Shack is asking for trouble.” Blake shoved Frankie playfully. Having a job where it was safe to be gay motivated Blake even more not to slack. The Shack was where men went to drink, hang out, and hook up in the back room. The amenities of the Shack were free to anyone who lived at or worked for the four ranches that supported it; the old pole barn sat on the spot where the four properties met. Rumor was it used to be an emergency shelter when weather turned or vehicles gave out—now it had two functions.

“No, the Love Shack is about having fun. You don’t have to go to the back room. The front has a bar, pool table, TV, and all that. Plus it’s free and not far. Saves hands from blowing their paychecks in bars or on hookers. Keeps them from driving when they’ve had too many—you can always get a ride. Everyone wins. You don’t have to suck anyone’s dick.” Frankie grinned like he knew Blake couldn’t resist.

Blake liked having friends and people who had his back. The Love Shack sounded appealing, but Blake didn’t drink too much. Giving in to temptations wasn’t a habit for him. To say his mother had addiction issues was an understatement. He wasn’t about to repeat her mistakes.

What he really wanted was to move up and have a career, if he could stay here. Love was a fantasy sold by society. “Getting drunk and screwing random guys won’t earn me a promotion.”

“Screwing Jared might. Show him your take-charge side,” Frankie teased.

“I don’t want a job that way.” Blake noticed the big guy from earlier eyeing him. “Who is that Randy guy?”

“Randy. That Randy? He’s a Chester. The middle son of the Chesters’ ranch. There are a zillion Chesters. They employ cousins and all live there. Hell, they reproduce like bunnies,” Frankie said.

“So why’s he looking at us?” Blake didn’t let the flattery or surprise show. Randy was a family member. Here it didn’t matter what color you were or where you came from. You were part of the owners’ level or staff level. They interacted and respected one another, but staff was replaceable. Blood was not.

He’d been invited riding by a Chester? The guy was well dressed, but he could’ve been staff. Crap! Jared was a good guy, but Blake didn’t want to upset any of the owners. He could go and be social at the Shack. Blake shifted his weight and sucked in the fresh air of fall. It was still nice out, but winter was coming. He’d need better clothes to trudge through snow. Being from the south, he didn’t really want to experience a real winter up here.

But he didn’t want to leave White’s Ranch. The thought of leaving knotted up his gut.

“Don’t play dumb. I saw Randy drooling all over you before. He’s the gay one that I know of. Plus he and Jared always had a little competition between them. That little ranch hand hottie next to him is Carter. I’ve seen them screwing at the Shack. But they get into group stuff. Way too wild for you. Come on, you need to know more of these people.” Frankie led Blake by the arm.

“Sure. Thanks.” Blake checked out Randy and the ranch hand. If he wasn’t going to go after Jared, he’d need to have a little fun eventually. Then again, a casual group thing, maybe no one would notice or care?

“Those are the Greens. The oldest son is a closet case, sort of like Hank, but their patriarch isn’t as open-minded as Mr. White. At least that’s the word around the barns. They are known for showing horses and breeding them for racing.”

“Hank’s in the closet?” Blake hadn’t paid much attention to the elder White brother except for work. Tall, broad, and intimidating by any standards, Hank was mid-forties and all business.

“Yes and no. He’s a workaholic. He and Jared never go to the Shack on the same nights. Hank is extremely discreet. He has a glory hole addiction, so nothing personal.” Frankie rolled his eyes.

“You like Hank?” Blake had noticed the glint in Frankie’s eye when he talked about him.

“I like all hot gay men. I don’t discriminate. He might need a little help out of the closet someday, and I’ll probably still be here. But you have a good shot with Jared so stop dragging your cowboy boots.” Frankie glanced down. “You really need to get a new pair too. Not to be a fashion diva, but everything you own is pretty worn. Winter here is rough.”

Blake always wore his stuff totally out before splurging on new things or used things. “I’ve moved around a lot. Money is tight. Not every ranch is cool with gay hands or pays decent. Plus, I don’t like waste. When something wears out, I replace it. But it’s still warm out—no reason to pull out the new winter stuff.”

“You’re good here. Everyone likes you, even Hank is impressed. Clothes I get, but those boots look older than you are. Okay, fine, I’m dropping it, but you’re on your feet a lot. Solid quality is what I mean. It’s not all about show.”

“I’ll look into it.” Blake had resoled his uncle’s old pair a few times. Maybe someday…

Frankie turned and pointed at the small circle. “Last of the four families are the Austens. They are more proper, very religious and conservative. Heavy into traditional cattle, they don’t diversify and don’t socialize except when it would be rude not to. See, they’re all clustered together. None of their staff is here.”

“Weird. They don’t let their staff come? Glad I didn’t get hired over there. I’ll try to keep it all straight. It’s a lot of people to learn. Their staff comes to the Shack?” Blake asked.

“Austen staff? Sure, but they don’t want to get caught with their pants down. The Austens only support the Shack as an emergency shelter but understand the social outlet keeps the barn well maintained. It’s not all about the sex. Plenty of the straights come for a free drink and premium sports on a big TV. When they’re horny, they venture into town, but the rest of us enjoy the perk of the back room. You’re missing a huge benefit of working here. Lots of stress-relieving, hard, sexy cowboys. They’d love to have you there.” Frankie bit his lower lip.

“Subtle.” Blake laughed, but the temptation grew bigger. “Jared asked me so I guess I should go.”

Frankie nodded. “It’s not a date so don’t get weird. Get him in the back room and enjoy. That’s a step in the right direction.”

The idea sounded great, but Blake didn’t want to be just sex. That’s all he’d really had from men all his life. He didn’t want to get his heart mangled when he was finally feeling safe here.

Maybe it was a mistake, but he’d begun to hope for more in life than hard work, poor wages, and random gay bar hookups. Love was a mysterious thing that happened to others. Security was real. He had the ranch skills and somewhere he’d be more than just a hand.

“We’ll see.” Blake shrugged.

“Hedging your bets. Blake, you’re good. You’re the best hand here. Everyone knows that you have a diverse background, and you’re an asset. Hank wants you on his dairy addition project,” Frankie said.

“I know nothing about dairy cows. I’ve worked goats, pigs, cattle, and horses, but dairy is not my area.” Blake had already told that to Hank.

“Right, but you learn fast and you’ve done a bunch of different stuff. Pigs and goats—Hank has talked about both. Moving around and working ranches all over is good experience Hank and Jared don’t have. Most of us grew up locally without opportunities. We ranch what we know. Cattle and horses. That’s Montana.” Frankie nodded to the big blue sky.

The view made Blake never want to leave. Acres of rolling grass and countless heads of cattle grazing in the distance. The Whites’ main house was a huge two-story aptly painted white with maroon trim. The employee housing was the nicest Blake had ever seen. “Winters will be rough.”

“Brutal, but it’s every bit as pretty with the snow. We find ways to stay warm.” Frankie headed toward the dessert tables.

“Did you boys get enough to eat? You both look a little lean to me,” Mrs. White fussed.

“I’m stuffed, thank you, ma’am,” Blake said.

“It was delicious,” Frankie added.

“I hope you saved room for the main cake. You have to try it.” She wagged a finger at them.

“We will. Can’t wait.” Frankie nodded.

Blake wanted to contribute, but he found himself tongue-tied. Women always found fault with him. His mother. His aunt. Nothing he ever did was good enough or right. Mother figures especially made him uneasy.

Men he could handle. Men he understood. He took off his hat and smiled politely at Jared’s mother.

Jared walked up next to his mother. “Where’s Hank? It takes two to carry that monster cake out. Why can’t you just make a few shorter cakes?”

“It’s not as impressive.” She put her hands on her hips.

“This isn’t a wedding.” Jared rolled his eyes at Blake.

“If one of my two single boys would give me a wedding to throw, maybe I wouldn’t need to go all out for your father’s birthday? Get these two to help you. Hank is dealing with the Greens. They’re always trying to buy all our best horses.” She pointed out her eldest son.

“I’ll help,” Blake said a little too enthusiastically. Then it was too late to take it back.

He followed Jared into the big house, enjoying the view of Jared’s ass in tight denim.
