I'm mostly going dark this weekend, to get focused on some projects (and to do some online shopping). But before I go, I will point out, to my great amusement, that I am listed on Cision's Top 50 UK Blogs. (About Cision.)

This is warrenellis dot com. Information and dirty pictures can be sent to my "dump" email address, warrenellis [at:] gmail dot com. Have a good weekend.

2050 – and immortality is within our grasp | Science | The Observer
"Aeroplanes will be too afraid to crash, yoghurts will wish you good morning before being eaten and human consciousness will be stored on supercomputers, promising immortality for all – though it will help to be rich. These fantastic claims are not made by a science fiction writer or a crystal ball-gazing lunatic. They are the deadly earnest predictions of Ian Pearson, head of the futurology unit at BT."

Newspaper Club: Pricing

Aha. Newspaper-printing service, the Newspaper Club of London, has produced their price list.

The way it's going to work is that you upload a PDF or use their online authoring tool, pay the whack, and within several days someone's going to drop a pallet of your newspapers wherever you told them to.

A colour 12pp newspaper? Five hundred copies for five hundred quid to you squire.

Five thousand colour 12pp newspapers? A grand and a half.

I have a feeling that several friends and acquaintances ...

Michael Paukner

Michael Paukner is a graphic designer and art director working out of Vienna. Felipe Sobreiro just pointed me at his stuff. Look at this.

Station Ident: Walking In The Air

Can't remember where I found this image. Xplanes, probably.

It's minus-five in Southend, pre-wind chill factor, and dropping fast. Obviously, if you don't see me soon, you should go ahead and eat my provisions.

This is warren ellis dot com, broadcasting from the frozen south.

Night Music: Pyramids With Nadja

From one of the great albums of last year that I mentioned at the time of release but probably didn't get around to listing when I was trying to sum up the year.

G'night.

OUT YONDER: Sick And Unseen In America is an excellent essay by Neil Shea, densely illuminated with photography by Andrew Cutraro, released in magazine form via POD operation MagCloud.

I'd read an article about this particular phenomenon last year, but Shea and Cutraro really bring it home in OUT YONDER: the plight of uninsured Americans trying to survive via the use of free healthcare clinics in rural Appalachia. It's a sad and frightening read.

Bechyovinka

There is a secret town in Kamchatka. One can get here only by sea or a helicopter…

Yet another amazing photo-essay at English Russia, this time depicting the abandoned "submariners' town" of Bechyovinka:
