Limping Speed

No, not Ramming Speed at all, not without significant stimulation. The WIRED UK column lays in a file waiting for editing, because it turns out I misread my schedule and it's not due til next week, ha ha oh god.

Congrats to Nika, Zola Jesus, for winning the Best New Artist 2009 place on the Brainwashed year-end reader's poll.

Kelly Sue DeConnick has, with Matt Fraction, a two-year-old son named Henry Leo, whom they refer to as HL online for speed's sake. Kel is currently pregnant with ...

On Whitechapel This Week: Brian Wood, Katie West

Whitechapel is, if you like, the "other half" of my general internet activity. It's a message board, and it lets me do certain things that I can't really do here. Like this.

In January, I'm inviting a few friends in to Whitechapel to run their own conversation threads for a week, where they can do Q&A, show off work, talk about what they're interested in and generally sit down for a public chat. I'm starting off, this week, with comics writer Brian Wood and photographer/writer Katie West.

The B...

First Sunday

First Sunday of the year, and I'm back in the office at 10pm. I have to file my next WIRED UK column tomorrow. No idea what it's going to be about yet.

Twenty minutes have passed. I still don't know what it's going to be about yet.

Worst part of the holiday break is having to get the headmeats to spin back up to speed. Especially since there was a chunk in the middle of the holiday there where I was out cold with this evil flu, and two more days where I was 1) rewatching the whole of...

False prophet Harol Camping sets another date for rapture: May 21, 2011
"Camping, 88, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he?d found: The world will end May 21, 2011. This is not the first time Camping has made a bold prediction about Judgment Day…"

quarantine economies – mammoth // building nothing out of something
"A poor family living in the Bronx decides to buy their cereal for 75% off (after it had been scanned, flagged, and sent for resale in a quarantine-only store during an outbreak of mutated H1N1 in NYC) because they can?t afford the now premium-priced, ?guaranteed H1N1 free? supply; so they sneak into a quarantine store, or perhaps buy it from illicit Q-market goods smugglers. To make matters worse, the incentive would be...
