Uphill All The Way

Facing another slog of a week, getting through the work I couldn't do over Xmas/New Year/the manic first couple of weeks of the year.

Also, just got the paperwork for a consulting job I'm doing for an acquaintance, a job of science fiction for a fun and odd public project.

February, too, is going to be manic. Sorting out the dates for travel to the RED set (that's RED based on the graphic novel by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, thank you, film news sites), and then getting away from the world ...

Station Ident: Stardate 19 1 10 point 13

I wrote a foreword for a book called DAYS MISSING, which comes out of the Roddenberry shop, and since I didn't ask a fee for it they asked me if they could send me a gift, so pleased were they with my random jabbering.

So this bloody great box arrives when I wake up this afternoon morning, and in it is an authentic replica of a Star Trek phaser, complete with display stand.

I have yet to discover whether or not it's a working model.

And then I find this image from Katie West:

Kemper Norton's TO IRON JOHN

A free four-track e.p loosely based on the men's mythopoetic movement , but hopefully more fun than it sounds. CD release to follow.

Residencies At Whitechapel This Week

Until the end of Friday this week, my message board Whitechapel is running two of its regular "residencies," or Q&A sessions and general conversation threads, with:

* the editors of COILHOUSE magazine, Meredith Yayanos, Nadya Lev and Zoetica Ebb.

* …and, um… me.

And Ever

I have, through foul means, come into possession of a copy of the new Titus Andronicus album, THE MONITOR. While very much a sequel to the previous record (THE AIRING OF GRIEVANCES), it has ambitions all its own. Someone's been listening to very early Billy Bragg a lot, for instance: the song "Richard II" has the shreds of the Bragg song "Richard" embedded in it, and the final track opens with classic Bragg-style narrative songwriting and percussive guitar.

But the most pleasurable surprise ...

T-Shirt Of The Week: The Return Of SPACE BASTARD

TOTW is basically a joke that Ariana and I pull each week in our joint guise as the International Electrophonic Unit. Basically, we take some of the stupider things I've said on Twitter and elsewhere, often in a state of extreme alcoholic refreshment or severe sleep deprivation, and put them on a t-shirt. Ariana set up a Cafe Press store (because this is a joke and engaging with a serious maker of t-shirts would be less funny to us), and… well, once a week, here we are.

Through this website...
