Dear Body
Dear Body, You appear to have a split personality trapped somewhere in Oz. There are days you act like the Tin Man: muscles tightening up until we’re a pile of rust. Letting my clothes do the laughing for me
As many of you are aware, I managed to hurt myself yesterday by sitting on my ass and being alive. These sorts of injuries take a special kind of talent. Doctor suspects cracked rib, but these injuries caused by ‘internal factors’ do not show up on an x-ray for 10 days. Given my own health history, I suspect the bones are fine and I’ve yanked a ligament. I like to beat to a different drum. In the meantime, my husband had to tape me up because I already own better medical tape than the doctor. I am also on a...

On the desk
Phumzile Simelane Kalumba, Jabulani When it comes to naming characters many 'How to Write' manuals site Barbara Kingsolver's trick of consulting a baby name book. Useful advice, unless you are in South Africa where bookstores stock baby name books from the USA or UK. Frustrating. So when Modjaji announced they were publishing a dictionary of South African Names, I couldn't pull out my money fast enough. It arrived yesterday: Jabulani, by Phumzile Simelane Kalumba
