Snippet Saturday – Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series Book 6) – Excerpt

Snippet Saturday is brought to you today by my paranormal romance book Unleash, which is the sixth book in my popular Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series. Read on for this Saturday’s snippet…

Unleash - paranormal vampire romance Book

Snow lumbered across his room, bare feet thumping against the wooden floor, and dumped the black linen beside his bed. He stripped the soiled covers off and focused on replacing them with fresh ones to keep his mind off a topic that had often angered him.

He had warred with himself many times about finding a female, debating the pros and cons of such a mission, and all the possible outcomes. It was highly likely that a female would leave him the moment she discovered the ugly truth about him, his bloodlust, and his horrific past.

He would probably react to her betrayal by losing his head to bloodlust and killing her.

He had a tendency to react violently whenever someone sought to hurt him.

Breaking his heart would cause him the ultimate pain.

Snow shook that thought away and smoothed the edges of his black covers down, neatening them. He grabbed his black robe and slung it on, but didn’t bother to fasten the belt.

Darkness swirled inside him like a rising tide that he was powerless to hold back. He breathed slowly, trying to work past the tightening knot in his breast, hoping to calm down before he lost himself again.

He sat on the bed and lay with his back against the pillows and his head against the steel bars of the headboard. He cast a glance at the restraints that rested on the pillows on either side of him. They were there if he needed them and that gave him back a fraction of his control, but didn’t quell his rising bloodlust.

His heart galloped, refusing to heed his attempts to slow it, and he closed his eyes and focused on positive things. The battle between his darker hungers and his desire to remain sane intensified and he breathed harder, drawing deep and filling his lungs with cool air. The soft scent of lilies and snow lingered in that air and his mind drifted to the lyrics of the song.

Calm swept through him, driving back the darkness for a brief second before it surged forwards again, obliterating the sense of peace.

A breeze washed over his bare flesh.

Snow frowned. There were no windows in his room. The breeze carried the unmistakable scent of snow yet it felt warm, and familiar.

Someone was in his apartment. He felt their presence as a soft caress that reached right down to his tainted soul and chased the black shadows from it.

Snow drew in a deeper breath of lily of the valley and snow, the pure feminine scent stirring his body and soothing the tension from it. He held it in his lungs and slowly opened his eyes, settling them directly on the dark beauty standing at the foot of his bed.

She was stunning, with a fall of glossy raven hair that playfully curled around slender shoulders and contrasted against her milky skin, heart-shaped rosy lips, a button nose, and the most incredible yet familiar eyes. They were turquoise around the outside but faded to a brilliant blue at their centres, around the dark mesmerising chasms of her pupils.

A pure white dress clung to dangerous curves and full breasts that would make any man’s eyes linger on her, evoking images in his head that he shouldn’t entertain but couldn’t keep at bay. He had never seen a female like her.

The white layers of her dress criss-crossed over her torso, forming a zigzagging line downwards from between the swell of her creamy breasts to the point above her navel. They flowed from there, free and untamed, drifting down to caress her ankles and her small bare feet.

Beautiful.

It was the large black wings furled against her back that eventually stole his attention away from the sublime innocence of her face and the wickedness of her body.

An angel.

“I never thought I would see one of your kind.” Snow had meant it to come out strong and forceful, but the words left his lips as an awed whisper.

She moved a step closer and the scent of her grew stronger, and while that pleased him, his senses screamed of danger and his bloodlust reacted violently to her proximity. A seething, vicious hunger to launch himself from the bed, capture her head in his hands and smash it hard against the unyielding wooden floor of his room bolted through him and he struggled to resist complying with it and satisfying his need to render her unconscious in order to make himself safe once more.

He ground his teeth and shot her a glare when she appeared to consider moving another step closer.

“What do you want?” It came out snappish this time, as dark and menacing as the twisted desires that taunted him.

The angel moved back a step and surveyed his room in silence. Ignoring his question was not the wisest move she could have made. Until he understood why she was in his room, he would feel threatened, and he would eventually lose his fight to retain control of himself.

Her striking eyes settled on his bed.

“Your bed is strange.” Her voice was melodic and light, a sound that curled around him and soothed his ears but not his bloodlust. That worsened, as though it despised her presence. She played havoc with it, and with him, and he was haemorrhaging patience. She pointed to the thick steel bars at the corners of his bed and the cuffs attached to them. “You have strange tastes. Why?”

Her gaze lit upon him, bright and curious, and Snow had the feeling that she was testing him for some infernal reason.

He could ignore questions too. “What do you want?”

She walked in a shallow circle, those curious eyes flickering around everything, cataloguing it and then coming back to take every inch of him in.

“I want nothing,” she said and drifted across the room to his dressing table.

Her fingertips danced over everything on it, from the lamp to the candles, to the stack of books. She leaned forwards, cocked her head to one side, and ran her fingers down the spines. The action shifted her black wings, causing the longest feathers of the right one to graze the floor.

She straightened and turned back to face him. “I felt you suffering again and was unable to ignore it, even though I know I should have this time.”

Snow frowned. “You were here with me… before. It was you.”

She nodded and walked towards him, her steps so light even he couldn’t hear them. She twirled her black hair around the fingers of her left hand and smiled at him. It hit him square in the chest and knocked the wind out of him.

“If you were here… then you know why my bed is the way that it is, and why I must chain myself. So why did you ask?” He growled the question, growing tired of her cryptic behaviour.

“I was curious to know what you would tell me.” She wrapped her small hands around one of the steel posts at the end of his bed and leaned her shoulder against it.

Snow didn’t like that she had seen him in the throes of his bloodlust, but he was beginning to share her sense of curiosity. “Why are you here… and why did you sing to me?”

A pretty blush coloured her flawless pale cheeks. “You remember?”

Wasn’t he supposed to have remembered? Evidently, she hadn’t expected him to recall that someone had been in his room, singing him to sleep, speaking to him in a language that hadn’t left his lips in close to one thousand years before he had awoken to find Antoine watching over him.

Snow nodded.

She didn’t tell him why she was here. She pushed away from the post and twirled so her back was to him, the white layers of her dress spinning outwards to reveal the outline of her shapely legs beneath. Snow barely bit back the growl that rumbled up his throat at the sight of her long slender legs.

Her black wings shifted and stretched, almost spanning his room before settling against her back again.

“I do not enjoy your choice of decor,” she said in a bright tone and looked over her shoulder, past her black wing to him. “It is morbid. Mortals would call it depressing.”

Snow folded his arms across his chest. “You know that I am not mortal, and I feel this decor suits me and this place.”

He smiled slowly. Desire to make her blush again so he could see it shot through him.

“You must know the sort of business I run with the others here, and the sort of creature I am.”

“I do not care.” She twirled to face him, affording him another glimpse of long legs that would have made him blush if he hadn’t been in perfect control of himself.

“Again, female, why are you here?” If she didn’t answer this time, he might leave the bed, grab her shoulders and shake the answer out of her.

She was petite, delicate in appearance, but his senses warned that she was powerful and more than able to put him on his arse if he tried to harm her.

“I said… I was watching over you.” Her black eyebrows pinched in a frown. “Do you not listen?”

Snow scowled back at her and scoffed at her words. “My own guardian angel? I have done nothing to deserve an angel watching over me. Your kind should be put to better use, given to those who deserve you.”

Her frown hardened. “You do not deserve compassion?”

A powerful vampire lost deep in his bloodlust, Snow is a savage animal, mindless with rage and a thirst for violence, and trapped with no hope of awakening from an endless nightmare… until a song draws him up from the abyss, restoring his sanity but leaving him haunted by the sweet feminine scent of lilies and snow, and fragmented familiar lyrics.

When the mysterious and beautiful songstress reappears in Snow’s room at Vampirerotique, she awakens a fierce protective streak and stirs dark desires that drive him to claim her as his female, even when he knows his touch will destroy her innocence.

A single forbidden taste is all it takes to unleash emotions in Aurora that she shouldn’t possess, tearing her between duty and desire, and luring her into surrendering to her wildfire passion and embracing hungers that burn so hotly they threaten to consume them both.

One act of kindness can lead to one thousand acts of sin though, each a black mark against the bearer’s soul and another grain of sand that slips through an hourglass. The clock is ticking and time is almost up. Can beauty save the beast?

Hunger Virtual Book Tour – What’s next in the Vampires Realm romance series?

Hunger Virtual Book Tour

It’s great to be here today at my blog as part of the Hunger Virtual Book Tour celebrating the release of the latest book in my Vampires Realm series of paranormal romance novels. I can’t believe this is the last post in this tour. I’ve had a blast!

Today, I’m going to be talking about what’s to come in the Vampires Realm series.

But before we get to the main event, I want to introduce myself. I’m a British paranormal romance author and a New York Times and USA Today best-seller. I have been writing since 2005, and went indie in 2006. I love to write big worlds, populated by vampires, shifters, demons, fae and angels, and I have several series. This tour is about the Vampires Realm series, which focuses on the world of the seven pureblood vampire families of Europe, the werewolves fighting for their freedom, the weakling vampires, and the vampire hunters determined to destroy them all.

Now, on with the show…

The next Vampires Realm release will actually be a novella, if everything goes to plan. It will feature Tynan as the hero and will be part of an anthology I’m putting together for release in 2015. Because it’s a novella, I can’t say much about it other than he’s finally going to get a woman.

Speaking of finally getting a woman… so I know everyone has been waiting for a while to get their hands on Hyperion’s book. Wait. You haven’t? Oh well… never mind. Forget about his book then.

Just kidding. I wouldn’t do that to you guys!

I’ve had so many of you ask me when you’re going to get Hyperion’s book, and I’m pleased to announce that the next novel in the Vampires Realm series will be his romance.

In the Vampires Realm timeline, his romance is already in progress, although I guess you could say that his romance has been in progress for a long time now.

Hyperion’s story will begin around the same period as Winter’s Kiss, with the first half of the story set then. It will span the time of Masquerade, and cross-over slightly with that book and events that occurred in it. And it will end after Masquerade, when Hyperion will finally get his forever after.

Which rather neatly brings me to the title of his book – Forever After – which will be book 9 in the series.

I can’t say much more about his story without giving spoilers. I’m not a big fan of spoilers so I will keep this one as secret as possible until I begin writing it. At the moment, the plan is to release Forever After in 2016.

Want some clues about Hyperion’s romance? Head over to my website and read the flash fiction with him: The Moon and the Cherry Tree

Be sure to follow this fantastic tour to learn more about the passionate heroes and strong heroines in the Vampires Realm romance series! You can also find yourself in with a chance to WIN a $50 or $25 Amazon Gift Certificate if you follow the tour. More details, including how to enter and a full list of stops, are available at the Hunger Virtual Book Tour page: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk/hunger-book-tour.php

Teaseday – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6) – Excerpt

Today’s tease comes from the paranormal romance book Her Wicked Angel, which is the sixth book in my popular Her Angel romance series. Read on for this Tuesday’s tease…

Her Wicked Angel - paranormal angel romance Book

“Why do you stare at me?” Asmodeus said and Liora tapped into her power, channelling it into him in the hope of discovering whether his awkwardness was real or an act.

She could sense no falseness in him. Her staring genuinely confused him.

“I’m trying to figure you out.” There was no point in hiding her intentions. The more honest she was with him, the more liable he was to be honest with her.

“And?” A playful edge entered his eyes and she wasn’t surprised to find the corners of his lips curling into a wicked smile.

“I’m getting nowhere.” She cocked her head to one side and narrowed her gaze on him. “Are you evil?”

“Yes.”

A very blunt and honest answer. “Evil because everyone expects you to be evil… or because you really are that way?”

He frowned at her and then switched his focus back to the skies ahead of him. “I was born evil.”

“I know the story,” she said and he flicked another glance at her, a touch of surprise in his eyes now. “You’re everything evil in Apollyon… blah, blah, blah… but I’m not convinced that you’re only evil.”

His golden eyes darkened and crimson edged them. She was pushing his buttons again. He didn’t like her mentioning Apollyon or comparing them in any way. She could understand why. She hated it whenever her coven mentioned how she should strive to be more like Serenity—all good and graceful. Serenity had never lived through hell as she had. Serenity had no reason to have darkness and hatred inside her.

Liora looked down as he glided around the top of the beautiful white domes of the church of Sacré-Coeur with her and then brought them down in the square below. She expected at least a bump as they landed, but it was smoother than any touch down she had ever experienced.

He carried her to the iron fence edging the square and stared out over the city. Dusk turned the elegant stone buildings and the ribbon of the river pink and gold, making them more beautiful than ever.

Asmodeus gently set her down.

“You’ve really never left Hell?” she said while watching him absorb the view of the city with wide eyes.

He looked like a man who had never witnessed such a view. She had asked Apollyon about Hell. His answer had been that it was black and grim, and that the only colours in the bleak landscape were the boiling rivers of lava.

“Never.” Asmodeus narrowed his golden gaze and shifted it down to her. “Have you ever left the mortal realm?”

She shook her head, the loose tangled waves of her chestnut hair brushing her shoulders. “Never… what’s it like where you live?”

“I have a castle I built.”

“A home.” She looked out over the city, enjoying the view even though she had come here often during the first two weeks into her stay with Serenity and Apollyon. It was nice to escape them sometimes, finding her own space so she could think and be herself.

“I do not think of it as a home.”

Liora frowned and looked across at him. He stood with his profile to her, his eyes drifting over the city, the sinking sun bringing out their colour but not warming them. They were cold and empty again. Where had his thoughts taken him?

The more she looked at him and thought about what he had said, the more she felt he was lonely but didn’t realise it. He had never left Hell and he refused to view his castle as his home.

Did he have no love and light in his life?

“So what are your friends like? Are they all bad-ass demons or are you mates with the Devil?”

Asmodeus’s gaze locked on a distant point and then flicked straight to her. “I have none.”

He had no friends.

He had no home.

What sort of lonely life was he leading in Hell? She was beginning to wonder how there was even a sliver of good in him. He had no reason to feel that or any positive emotions at all.

Liora placed her hand over his on the black metal railing and he looked down at them, his eyes slowly widening in that way that made her feel that there was something about Asmodeus that would surprise everyone who saw him if they knew about it.

He had always been alone.

No one had ever shown him compassion or care.

No one had ever touched him like this, as a friend would, offering comfort and support.

He was a clone of Apollyon, everything evil distilled into its purest and most vicious form, but he was a product of his environment too.

He had been starved of good and driven to do bad. He had never been given a chance to be anything else. The Devil had moulded him into this man before her and for some reason she wanted to be the one to show the world that they were wrong about Asmodeus, and he could be something more than they believed him to be.

“Do you have no companions at all?” She looked up into his eyes, her eyebrows furrowed and a tiny flicker of hope in her heart.

He lifted his gaze to lock with hers and his thumb brushed hers, causing her heart to leap and race.

He swallowed hard and hesitated, and she thought he wouldn’t answer as he averted his gaze, fixing it far below them at the base of the hill and the street there. His eyes tracked something, turning distant at the same time. She looked down and frowned when she saw an old woman walking two miniature poodles.

“I have Romulus and Remus,” he said in a gruff voice and she raised her eyes back to his. He looked at her out of the corner of his eye. “They are not quite like those canines. Hellhounds are larger, and live far longer.”

He had dogs. Companions. Hellhounds were an evil angel’s best friends.

“What are they like?” She couldn’t picture hellhounds at all. Images of Cerberus, the three-headed hound sprang into her mind. “Do they only have one head?”

He smiled and her heart lifted at the sight of it and the way the cold edge left his golden eyes. “Yes, they only have one head. They are black and very large, coming to stand with their shoulders around here.”

He held his hand palm down just above his hip and Liora’s gaze disobeyed her direct command and drifted across to the taut ripped muscles of his stomach and the sexy dip of his navel, and the dusting of dark hair that led her eyes downwards. Her pulse picked up again and it took all of her will to drag her gaze back to his hand.

It was trembling.

Her eyes shot up to his and he looked away again, but she caught the flicker of desire that still darkened his gaze.

“What do they look like? Are they hairy?” Curse her voice for shaking. She had been around men she felt attracted to before and had never reacted like this whenever they had flirted with her or shown their interest. She sidled closer to Asmodeus and butted her hand up against his to measure their height against her own body.

According to his measurements, these hellhounds would reach shoulder height on her if she included a modest addition for their heads.

“Hell is hot and rather filled with fire. Hair is not a good thing in that sort of environment. They are shorthaired and somewhat resemble a canine of this world… a Great Dane. Do you know of it?”

“Scooby Doo? You have demonic Scooby Doos?”

“Scooby Doo?” He frowned. “I am not familiar with this Scooby Doo.”

“He’s a cartoon… like moving drawings with sound.” She wasn’t sure he knew what a cartoon was. She doubted you could pick up satellite or cable in Hell. “But he’s brown. The right breed though…”

She measured Asmodeus’s guide height against her again.

“I’m guessing yours are bigger than our version.” She waved her hand around the height she imagined them to be.

“And broader… and they have red eyes.”

“I could have guessed.” She really could have. It didn’t surprise her at all. Even Asmodeus had red eyes whenever he was losing his temper.

When coupled with the way she could feel his power rising or ebbing with his emotions, she had a barometer for Asmodeus.

At least she could tell when he was about to unleash Hell on the poor unsuspecting population of Paris.

“And I can talk to them.”

That, she hadn’t guessed possible. “They talk?”

Asmodeus casually shrugged, causing his black wings to shift against his bare back. “They communicate with each other in their own language using telepathy, but I do not have that ability so I have taught them to understand me and I can understand their responses. They are clever creatures and picked up an understanding of the demonic language quickly.”

So he could communicate with his two hellhounds. Romulus and Remus. Who no doubt lived at the castle that wasn’t a home.

Something came back to her, something she had heard Apollyon say to Serenity when she had been listening in on them and Serenity had asked why Asmodeus had given him information he could use against the Devil.

Asmodeus was complicated.

Liora stared at him.

Complicated and gorgeous, and she wanted to unravel the mystery that he wore like a protective cloak.

She wouldn’t stop until she knew the truth of Asmodeus.

Until she knew the real him.

The one he was fighting to hide from her.

Snippet Saturday – Hunger (Vampires Realm Romance Series Book 8) – Excerpt

Snippet Saturday is brought to you today by my paranormal romance book Hunger, which is book 8 in my popular Vampires Realm romance series. Read on for this Saturday’s

Hunger - paranormal vampire romance Book

Tor drove through the slick quiet streets of Paris, the wipers on full to combat the downpour. Lightning danced across the heavy grey clouds in the distance and thunder rolled ominously overhead. Not the best weather for flying, but he had flown through worse in his years and in vehicles far more dangerous than the expensive Cessna jet waiting for them at the private strip outside the city centre.

His passenger sat in silence, staring out of the window beside her, her glossy dark hair catching the lights of passing cars that flashed across her face too, distracting him.

She was different from her photograph and he hadn’t been prepared for the darkness that had come over him on finding her facing several vampires alone, bleeding from multiple wounds and close to being overwhelmed, her pretty face a picture of determination even as she broadcasted fear.

Fear and determination weren’t the only things she had felt in his presence. There had also been emotions he hadn’t been able to decipher, and ones he could easily read.

Her shock on hearing that there was a jet waiting for her was one of them, and her surprise on seeing the black car parked outside the club and discovering that he hadn’t stolen it. He wasn’t sure where she had received her education on vampires, but apparently it had taught her that all vampires, regardless of bloodline and status, stole vehicles and engaged in other criminal activities, such as theft and breaking and entering.

Oneiric had assured her that the Vehemens bloodline didn’t engage in such activity.

Shortly into their journey, she had found her voice and pointed out that he might not be a thief but he was a murderer.

Tor hadn’t denied it.

Oneiric had warned him that she had a hunter’s view of their kind. To her, they were all murderers, liars, thieves and, without a doubt, soulless and evil.

How much did she actually know about the pure bloodlines and how they functioned? He doubted that she had ever fought a vampire from one. Most hunters never met a pureblood and those who did, died. The weaklings were hard enough for them to kill. Still, he appreciated the pest control they performed on the wretched bastards. Weaklings were a pain in his arse.

How many had she killed before her turning?

She was a murderer too. She just didn’t like to acknowledge it. She had drawn a line between humans and vampires, and now it was blurring for her and it was hitting her hard.

Hunter turned vampire.

Tor shook his head.

It was little wonder the female wasn’t coping with the transition.

He couldn’t remember his own turning. It had faded over the centuries, shoved out of his mind by the training that had taken place immediately after he had completed his transition. They had expunged his every weakness, moulding him into a stronger man. One capable of fulfilling his duties.

Throughout his years as a hunter, he had forgotten other things too. A whole spectrum of useless emotions that were nothing but another form of weakness. Things the slight female beside him felt in full if her constant change in moods was anything to go by.

She sighed, her cool breath barely misting the glass beside her.

Tor turned a corner and she swayed towards him. The scent of her blood struck him hard, swirling around him, teasing him as if it knew his thoughts and wanted to prove that he still had weaknesses. His fangs itched in response, hunger welling up in him in reaction to the sweet scent. They had tended to her wounds before leaving her father, but she still smelled of blood. He had never smelled anything like her.

He clamped his teeth together and shut down his body’s response to her blood scent. Hunger had been his subordinate for centuries, since shortly after he had completed his training. He had mastered it and it wouldn’t begin to control him again now. He had fed well recently and was strong, uninjured. He didn’t need blood.

He didn’t need her sweet taste on his tongue.

He needed a distraction.

Tor pulled the phone from his pocket and dialled Lincoln. The male picked up on the third ring.

“Female is in transit. Jet is scheduled for departure in twenty minutes. We will reach the mansion before dawn.”

He felt her gaze swing to him, sensed her feelings shift towards anger. She had stated at the club that she didn’t like people referring to her as a package. That was all she was to him. A mission. He would take her home, as per his instructions, and then she would receive the care that she needed.

He ended the call and slipped the phone back into his jeans.

Eve returned to gazing out of the window but her agitation remained. It wasn’t just his referring to her as a package again. She had been growing increasingly tense and restless during the journey, as if something played on her mind.

Tor kept a close eye on her as he took the turn that would bring him back to the small airport. She was important to the lady of his bloodline, and also his family’s Chosen Son, Lincoln, and therefore he would do all in his power to protect her and safely deliver her to them.

During their meeting, Lincoln had told him that Eve would become the Chosen Daughter, a woman ranked only below Lilith and Lincoln in the entire bloodline.

Lincoln had also told him that if he failed in this mission, it would be his head. The threat didn’t bother Tor. He had never failed. He had never strayed from his duty. This escort mission was simple in comparison to his previous ones.

All he needed to do was bring Eve to the mansion in Oslo and abide by the rules set out by Lincoln. He had to treat her with the respect she deserved as their future Chosen Daughter, had to protect her with his life, and had to do nothing that might harm her. Easy enough considering all he had to do was put her on the private jet, sit with her a few hours, and then drive her to the mansion after they had landed in Oslo.

Or it should be.

But something about her bothered him.

Lincoln had warned she would be volatile, frightened and in need of care. Tor could see that, although she hid it well most of the time. The male had neglected to mention that she would be such a danger to herself though. He had thought Lincoln overprotective when he had told him to protect her from herself if the need arose.

Tor had the feeling the need was definitely rising, and the more time he sat with her, the stronger the feeling grew.

He flicked another glance at her, catching a glimpse of her profile as light flashed across it, his gaze focused on her deep brown eyes.

Those eyes had shown a hint of vulnerability back at the club. It had been buried beneath the layers of defiance, anger, bitterness and hatred, but it was there. Those darker emotions were keeping her going. They were keeping her strong, but they troubled him.

She wasn’t right.

She wasn’t coping as everyone thought.

He had encountered many newly turned vampires and this one wasn’t dealing with the transition.

If given leave to voice his opinion, he would say that she wasn’t going to survive being in the mansion. It was going to be too much for her.

He knew Lady Lilith had taken months to move from the cabin in the mountains into residence at the mansion. He wasn’t sure how long her sister had been a vampire, but it was going to take more than a few months of seclusion to convince her to embrace life as one.

Tor shifted his focus to her again and drove onto the airport, heading for the hangar where the jet waited. Eve tensed, her mood darkening and emotions rising. Too many to discern but a few stood out amongst the swirling maelstrom.

Panic. Fear. Determination.

Her feelings about travelling to Oslo and facing her sister?

Or something else?

The bitterness came again, a sharp tang in her scent that blacker feelings swiftly followed. Her fingers curled into fists on her lap.

He spotted the small white jet ahead, stark in the darkness. Rain lashed down, the wind driving it across the tarmac, towards the open hangar nearby. Every metre closer they drew to it, Eve’s tension increased.

It was on the tip of his tongue to break protocol and ask her what was wrong when she suddenly turned in her seat to face him.

“I changed my mind. I’m not going.”

Tor frowned and rattled through his orders. Bringing her home went up against respecting her and doing nothing that might harm her. Could forcing her onto the plane be considered disrespecting and hurting her?

His primary objective was completing his mission. That mission was to bring her home.

“Jet is already preparing for take-off. No turning back now.”

She cursed. “You’ll have to carry me onto that damn plane.”

“I have no problem with that. Thank you for giving permission.” Tor drove into the hangar, parked the car and turned off the engine.

He shoved the door open, stepped out and closed it, cutting off her low growl.

Tor opened the back door, grabbed his duffle and slung it over his shoulder, and then picked up her bag. He shut the door, rounded the car and was about to get the door for her when she opened it, slamming the metal panel hard into his knees. She huffed and strode away from him, leaving him to close the door for her.

He bit back a growl and went after her.

She paused inside the hangar and stared at the plane, the breeze whipping her dark hair around her shoulders. Spots of rain landed on her face, glistening like diamonds against her pale skin. He didn’t want to hazard a guess at the last time she had fed properly. She was weak. She hadn’t been able to defend herself against four weakling vampires, a task that should have been easy for her, and he had noticed her shaking in the club.

Before departing, he had pressed Oneiric on the subject and the male had admitted she had refused blood on waking tonight. Tor had the feeling tonight wasn’t the only time she had refused to feed.

Her face paled further and she wrapped her arms around herself, fingers clutching the sleeves of her black jacket and pulling the material tight, as if she needed to hold herself together or she would fall to pieces.

Tor hazarded a step closer and she looked across at him, her large brown eyes showing that vulnerable edge as clear as night now.

The stewardess and co-pilot of the jet lingered nearby, waiting for the pilot to lower the steps of the plane so they could make the short bolt across the tarmac in the driving rain.

The door began to lower.

Tor took another step towards her. Eve swung to face him, grabbed his arm and stared up into his eyes, her panic flowing over him.

“Just give me a minute,” she blurted and clutched his arm, her fingers trembling against his wrist.

His mission was to get her on that plane and their departure time was rolling up on them. He didn’t have a minute to give. Her fingers flexed and her grip tightened. Her dark eyes implored him.

Tor went against every instinct he possessed and led her deeper into the hangar, away from the rain.

Eve released him and paced away, her gaze dancing between him and the plane.

“I’m not ready for this,” she whispered, her soft voice laced with pain. “It’s too much. I need more time.”

“I cannot give you that time. My mission is to bring you to Lady Lilith as soon as possible.”

Eve cast him a pained look and turned her back on him. She wrapped her arms around herself again and shook her head. She looked smaller like that. More vulnerable.

It was strange for him, but he found himself drawn to stepping closer to her and gently asking, “Don’t you want to see your sister?”

“I do,” she said and sighed. “I do want to see her… but I don’t know how she’ll react to seeing me again. She thought I was dead. It’s been five years, Tor.”

The sound of his name rolling softly off her tongue shocked him almost as much as the news that she had turned five years ago and hadn’t seen her sister in that time. He hadn’t known, but now that he did, he understood her reluctance to jump on a plane and meet her sister again.

It wasn’t the only reason behind her reluctance though.

He could see the cold hunger in her again as she turned to face him and her dark eyes locked with his. She hid it well, but it was there, layered with purpose and determination, and a drive that seemed familiar to him.

On top of that burning need that drove her ever onwards was one that held her back.

The need to avoid accepting what she had become at all costs. At the Vehemens mansion, she wouldn’t be able to hide from it any longer. The hunter would have to face the truth. She had become a vampire. She had become the very creature she once hunted and loathed.

Movement out of the corner of his eye drew his attention to the front of the hangar. The stewardess and co-pilot placed their long dark coats over their heads to shield them from the downpour and rushed across the small strip of tarmac to the plane.

The jet’s staff made it on board.

Thunder rumbled in the distance.

Not the distance.

Not thunder.

His senses focused and everything slowed to a crawl.

A violent growl filled the silence, beginning in the belly of the jet, and grew in volume to a deadly roar. Brilliant blinding light drove the darkness back, orange and white flares stinging his eyes.

Tor reacted on instinct to the split-second warning, turning away from the coming blast.

Teaseday – Hunger (Vampires Realm Romance Series Book 8) – Excerpt

Today’s tease comes from the paranormal romance book Hunger, which is book 8 in my popular Vampires Realm romance series. Read on for this Tuesday’s tease…

Hunger - paranormal vampire romance Book

The remaining three weakling vampires snarled and launched themselves as one at her. Eve did her best to block each blow they threw, her forearms taking the brunt of their wrath, and tried to get some attacks of her own in. They were relentless, driving her backwards, crowding her and making it impossible for her to escape.

She bit her tongue to silence her cries as claws cut and fists slammed, each blow weakening her a little more.

She couldn’t die yet. She needed peace. She needed to make the bastard pay.

It couldn’t end here. Now.

A cry escaped her as sharp talons sliced through her right biceps and she dropped her only weapon.

A deep male voice rolled over her like a storm, his foreign tongue dark and sinister.

The three vampires crowding her eased back and turned as one to face the newcomer. Eve withdrew, clutching her arm. Blood spilled from between her fingers and the ever-present hunger grew worse, bringing out her fangs as it demanded she taste the sweet, coppery liquid.

A fifth male melted out of the shadows at the entrance of the club, a six-foot-five wall of lethal muscle and deadly grace, his face obscured by the hood of his oversized black sweatshirt. Calm laced with malice rolled off him and she felt his gaze flicker to her.

A hot shiver went through her in response to the intense feeling, the incredible awareness that shot an arrow straight through her heart and made the rest of the room fall away in an instant, drawing every shred of her focus to him.

He calmly set his black duffle down on the bar and strode forwards with purpose, his black army boots loud on the wooden floor. She felt his eyes leave her. The room crashed back into existence and air rushed into her lungs again.

The low lights flickered over the lower half of his face, giving tantalising glimpses of firm, sensual lips and a defined jaw. The corner of those lips quirked, a split-second shift that she would have missed had she not been staring so intently at them.

Panic began as a low thrumming in her belly, a turbulent swirling that made her take another step back for each one he advanced, placing more distance between them. The malice and darkness he emanated grew stronger and her instincts warned her away, screamed that she stood no chance against this newcomer.

He was stronger than the other four combined.

Stronger than Oneiric.

Her panic exploded into outright fear as the man reached behind his back, whipped out a black pistol and fired off a round, nailing the vampire she had tagged as the leader between his eyes. His head snapped backwards, blood spraying from the gaping wound in the back of his skull, and he fell into a table, crushing it under him.

The other two rushed the man.

They didn’t stand a chance.

He took the first out with lethal efficiency, kicking him hard in the balls and then catching him with a diagonal uppercut as he doubled over, snapping his neck.

Eve stood frozen to the spot, unsure what to make of the deadly new combatant, and unsure whether he was friend or foe.

She hoped to God he wasn’t foe.

She wasn’t even sure he was a vampire. Her scrambled senses said that he was but he didn’t fight like any vampire she had ever met. None of them had used guns for a start, and none of them fought dirty as this man did.

The remaining male bravely faced off against him, brandishing both of her fallen knives.

It didn’t help him.

The huge male cupped his hands and stepped forwards, nothing more than a blur as he closed the distance between him and the remaining vampire. He slapped his hands over the vampire’s ears, the crack as they connected startling her into moving, placing even more distance between them. The vampire unleashed an agonised snarl and thrust with one of the blades. The man sidestepped, caught his arm and twisted it hard, bringing his other hand down in a devastating blow that shattered the bone.

The vampire’s agonised snarl became a scream.

The man calmly grabbed him by his throat, pressed his free hand against his face, and shoved forwards, snapping his head backwards and breaking his neck.

Eve took another step backwards, towards the door to the back rooms. Maybe she should have made a break for the exit while the man had been occupied with neatly defeating three vampires in under three minutes.

He advanced on her, the sense of malice coming from him not abating. If anything, it was getting stronger.

When he reached the gunshot victim, he casually crouched over him and ruthlessly snapped his neck, twisting hard enough that the crack was audible and sickening, making her own spine ache in response and her stomach turn. He rose to his feet, his backdrop a vision of darkness as the vampires began to turn to ashes, and approached her, silent but not wary.

Confidence and danger flowed from him, as if those two words were created for him alone.

An assassin.

A man bred for the purpose of killing.

She had met men like him in her years as a hunter, but not on his level.

Eve backed off another step and hit the wall beside the door to the back rooms.

The man continued his advance, each step closer he came only making her more aware of how immense he was as she had to tilt her head back to keep her unsteady gaze on what she could see of his face.

Oneiric appeared beside her and the man halted his approach.

“I dealt with all the ones out the back. Are you alright?” Oneiric said in a low voice, his crimson gaze never leaving the newcomer.

Eve kept her eyes locked on him too and nodded. “Sustained a few injuries but they’re healing. I took one down, and… well… he handled the rest. Any idea what they wanted?”

She waited, curious and a little afraid, as the male shifted his focus to Oneiric.

“I imagine it was the usual grudge against our kind. My ones had a few choice things to say about us.” Oneiric moved closer to her, a protective gesture by the vampire who called himself her father, one that she appreciated.

“It must get tiring. You think they would get bored of killing themselves.” She glanced at him, catching his brief smile.

They had spent hours discussing how foolish the weakling vampires were, those with muddied blood that made them far less powerful than vampires of the seven pure bloodlines. They often attacked pureblood vampires. Oneiric had called it suicide. She had to agree. As a hunter, she had seen weaklings picking fights with purebloods and it always ended the same. A gruesome death for the weakling.

She pressed her palms against the wall behind her, clinging to it for support as her tired body threatened to give out under the stress of the fight and the presence of the assassin.

Whenever his focus leaped to her, she felt the full extent of his power and it pressed down on her. Oneiric had warned such a thing would happen around stronger members of the seven pure bloodlines and she hadn’t believed him until now.

This vampire was more powerful than any she had met. What did he want with her father? Had he just been passing and had sensed the fight, and had come to help them? Or did he have business at the club? He would make one hell of a bouncer.

Her father eyed the ashes of the vampires and then the man before them.

“I thought Lilith would be the one to come for Eve,” Oneiric said and Eve swallowed hard.

This man couldn’t possibly be her escort.

She wasn’t going anywhere with him.

The towering male said nothing in response. He simply stuck his gun down the back of his black jeans and then casually pushed his hood back.

Eve’s breath left her in a rush.

Piercing glacial blue eyes held fast on Oneiric, the pale white-blond eyebrows above them drawing down, causing them to narrow and intensify. The man was handsome, not at all as she had expected, but radiated danger too, a sense of deadliness that his appearance could easily belie.

She had never thought she would face a vampire and think they were beautiful. Her body heated, her blood turning to liquid fire at the sight of him, a startling reaction that she couldn’t control.

He glanced at her and then his cold eyes shifted back to Oneiric.

Eve could only stare at the contradiction before her. No doubt he made the perfect assassin. His looks distracted her from the darker side she could feel in him—the vast coldness—and the dangerous side she had witnessed—the lethal, efficient killer. His pale eyes glittered with intelligence as they held Oneiric’s, filled with a calculating edge that made her feel he was five steps ahead of them, already predicting the outcome of every move he made or thing he said.

Here was the kind of man that nothing slipped past. Not even the smallest detail. He was dangerous because of that, and confident too. He knew himself and his skills, and that he could take down both Oneiric and her without breaking a metaphorical sweat. That scared her a little, but didn’t stop her from feeling drawn to him. If anything, it only pulled her deeper under his spell.

The man he was inside lent a rough edge to his beauty that made him masculine. Probably the closest definition to male she had ever met. A feral, deadly devil wrapped in the guise of an angel. She had never seen anything like him, and knew she never would again.

His blue eyes flickered back to her, his eyebrows twitching into a brief frown as if her scrutiny unsettled him, and then went back to Oneiric.

“Is Lilith coming?” Eve cursed the way her question came out squeaky, in a manner that should be reserved for schoolgirls with crushes, not a skilled huntress like herself. She cleared her throat and pushed away from the wall, refusing to use it for support and giving this man any reason to think she was weak, a woman in need of protection.

“Lincoln sent me to retrieve you.” His deep voice held a thick accent similar to Oneiric’s. Her bloodline hailed from Oslo in Norway, and this man had either been there for many years or came from that frigid and isolated land too.

“I want to know about my sister. Why couldn’t she come?” Why had her mate sent a six-foot-five wall of muscle to take her to Oslo? That one she was keeping to herself. The next one she was putting out there. “And I don’t like being talked about as if I’m some package that needs to be picked up.”

Neither male jumped on that one. Wise bastards.

Oneiric moved another step closer. “What is your name, stranger?”

The formidable ice-blond vampire switched his focus back to her father. “Tor.”

“I know that name. Lincoln thinks to send a hunter to escort my daughter to Oslo?” Oneiric said.

The air thickened as Oneiric stared at Tor and folded his arms across his chest, a deep frown furrowing his brow.

Tor’s emotions didn’t shift on her senses and neither did his body. He remained perfectly still and composed, as calm and cold as before, unmoved by the sneer in Oneiric’s tone or the warning his body language was tossing at Tor like a big flashing neon sign.

“Lincoln gave me this mission and I intend to complete it to his satisfaction. The female will be safe in my care,” the big assassin said in a flat tone, one that lacked feeling but brooked no argument from her father.

Eve stared at Tor, unconvinced that he knew the meaning of care and safe. He didn’t look as if he had any softer emotions or could comprehend why Oneiric was uncertain about entrusting her to him, or why she needed an escort at all.

There was something she could comprehend though.

The way Tor handled himself, and had handled those weakling vampires with ease, said that he was her ticket to getting the taste of revenge she hungered after so badly.

All she had to do was convince her escort to become her bodyguard and change a few details about his mission.

That would be no small feat. Men of his ilk placed great importance on their duty and carrying out orders to the letter. She had met enough of them in her time to know that Tor would resist altering the parameters of his mission and it was going to take a miracle to get him to even listen to her request.

His assessing blue gaze held a flicker of keen intelligence as it raked over Oneiric, the club, and finally her. He took everything else in quickly but his eyes lingered on her, studying, as if he was putting her to memory or seeking out all of her weaknesses. She trembled under the intensity of his gaze and the awareness of him that burst to life inside her, as strong as it had been during the fight, making the room and Oneiric fall away.

Tor blinked and was looking at Oneiric again.

“I ordered the jet to refuel and be ready for departure at oh-two-hundred hours. Any delay will see us landing during daylight.”

Jet? Her first hurdle presented itself. Tor would want to depart on time and clearly wanted to hand her over to Lilith and Lincoln by dawn. She couldn’t allow that. She had to delay him somehow, giving herself time to work on him and convince him to listen to her and at least consider changing his mission.

Oneiric continued to stare at him, his arms folded across his chest, an air of malevolence flowing around him. He didn’t trust Tor. Eve was fine with that. She was willing to trust him enough for both of them.

“Very well,” she said.

Oneiric looked at her, the black slashes of his eyebrows drawing together above his dark incredulous eyes. She knew why he wanted to give her the third degree. She had argued with him for five hours straight about not wanting to go to Oslo and now she was positively leaping at the chance.

Eve took a step towards Tor before Oneiric could say anything, capturing the larger man’s attention. His ice-blue gaze swung down to her, intense and focused, sending another hot shiver coursing through her blood.

The coldness in his eyes convinced her that whatever she felt when their eyes met, she was the only one experiencing it. She shut down all of her feelings and held his gaze, staring into the glacier and clinging to hope that she could do the impossible.

She could convince a cold-hearted assassin who valued his mission above everything to change his ways and give her the vengeance she needed.

All in the time it took to ferry her from the club to the jet.

She didn’t need a miracle. She needed divine intervention.

Eve fell deeper into his eyes, losing herself in them. In their depths, she found a spark of hope.

Flames flickered amidst the sharp glacier, banked but growing, intensifying into heat and hunger that melted some of the ice in Tor’s steady gaze before he shifted it away from her and began discussing the mission with Oneiric.

Maybe she had a chance of making a miracle happen after all.

Eve smiled.

Vengeance would be hers.

Snippet Saturday – Kissed by a Dark Prince (Eternal Mates Paranormal Romance Series Book 1) – Excerpt

Snippet Saturday is brought to you today by my paranormal romance book Kissed by a Dark Prince, which is the first book in my popular Eternal Mates romance series. Read on for this Saturday’s snippet…

Kissed by a Dark Prince - paranormal romance Book

Olivia’s knuckles burned.

The man she had planted on his backside didn’t look as though she had dealt much damage with her blow though. She had the feeling she had caused herself more pain than she had inflicted on him. She stood over him, letting him see the full extent of her anger in her eyes. It was a little over two days since he had tried to take a chunk out of her throat and her fury over it hadn’t dropped from a boil to a simmer. The twin wounds on her neck were still sore, irritating her, a constant reminder of what he had done.

She had thought about how this meeting would go many times during the course of the past fifty hours, considering all the scenarios, but she had never once imagined it would actually happen and she would see him again.

She had definitely never imagined he would kidnap her from her apartment.

Where the hell was she?

Her gaze darted between him and the room, trying to take it all in without giving him a chance to attack her unawares.

If he tried anything funny, she was aiming lower and with her foot. He was anatomically similar to a human male and that meant she could deal him a blow he would definitely feel, all without causing herself a single ounce of pain.

The room around her was dark and grim, the walls and floor made of stone that verged on black, and the ceiling made up of a rich sort of timber. The arched windows at intervals along the wall to her right and the tall arched door a few metres behind her on the same wall let in a large amount of light though. The world outside was bright. Far brighter than it should have been. He had taken her in the dead of night. Were they on the other side of the world now?

The man picked himself up off the floor and she scooted back a step, brandishing her fists in front of her. He cocked an eyebrow at her and rubbed his mouth with the back of his hand, his purple eyes darkening. She knew that look. She had pissed him off. Not what she had aimed to do, but it was satisfying nonetheless.

“You have a hell of a lot of nerve, Mister. You take liberties with my vital fluids and then you kidnap me?” She stood her ground when he rose to his full height, reminding her just how tall he was, the honed muscles of his bare torso stretching with his action.

Olivia refused to let her eyes drift down and take in that delicious body. He had hurt her. He was some kind of demon and he had bitten her, and she’d had enough damn men in her life like that. She wasn’t looking for a repeat performance with the tall, dark and deadly slice of sexy standing before her. No way.

She really wasn’t.

“Do you intend to hurt me?” She was sure that he wasn’t likely to be honest and tell her if he was, but she had to ask.

He shook his head. “No. To hurt you would be to hurt myself.”

That sounded rather noble and romantic. She glanced around the room again. It was huge, and the furniture was solid wood, possibly ebony, and very ornate. Was she in a castle? This was how she had imagined castles looked. Why did he live in a castle?

“Female, tell me everything about how we met.” That commanding tone again. He was a man used to getting his way, issuing orders and having people obey, and he seemed to live in a castle on the other side of the world to her offices in London.

Her mind supplied that perhaps he was a knight or a prince. He had a regal bearing and was handsome enough to be someone of noble blood. He acted like a stuck up bastard too.

He took a step towards her and Olivia moved back one, keeping the distance between them steady. She wasn’t sure whether he had other powers besides the ability to teleport, but she wasn’t going to risk letting him close the gap. He had already bitten her once. There was nothing to say he wasn’t going to try that trick again and drain her dry this time. She bristled at the memory of him attacking her and clenched her fists.

He halted and quirked an eyebrow at her. Maybe he had good senses like many demons and had detected her anger.

“Listen. I’ll answer your questions but if you come near me, I won’t be held responsible for the damage done to your private parts.”

He backed off a step. It seemed that even demons had preservation instincts when it came to their balls.

“Better.” She moved a step too, enlarging the gap, giving herself more space and ending up closer to the doors. The rich blue sheer curtains billowed on a warm breeze that smelled like blossom. Southern hemisphere? It was early autumn in the northern. “The patrol team found you close to the facility.”

“How close?” He frowned, his eyes darkening.

“That was the weird thing. You were practically dropped on our doorstep… like a gift.”

He cursed in his foreign tongue, his expression turning pensive, which was not good for Olivia because he was even more handsome when the black slashes of his eyebrows drew together, his sensual lips pursed, and his purple eyes flashed with keen intelligence.

“I knew it,” he muttered, his bass voice still at odds with his lean athletic figure. He paced, his boots making no sound on the floor.

How could he move silently like that? The dark floor was solid stone and his boots looked heavy, the soles made of layers of leather and possibly wood. He should be shaking the foundations with each determined stride, but he wasn’t.

She had a thousand questions she wanted to ask him, most of them about whether she was getting out of this alive, but couldn’t find the courage to voice them when he looked so dark and troubled.

Olivia settled for tracking him as he paced, sure that he would have another question for her soon, because he was thinking hard. He was pale too, maybe even more so than he had been when she’d had him on her inspection table. Was he still sick?

His purple gaze flitted to her, and then away, and then back again. Whenever it landed on her, he looked lost for a moment, bewildered, as if he had forgotten what he was supposed to be doing but had a suspicion he had been doing something before setting eyes on her.

Olivia’s body betrayed her every time his gaze landed on her, flushing with fiery heat and that shivery achy feeling that had come over her when they had first met. She cursed herself. She was not going to go through this again. At least the first time she hadn’t realised that she was dealing with a demon until he had tried to take down the central headquarters of Archangel. She knew this time and she had her barriers up and locked in place. There was no way he was going to break them down.

She was not going to lust after another demon.

He wheeled around to his right and her eyes shot to the arched door near the other end of the room, close to a low long cabinet.

It was one of the men from the other night. The one who had spoken. She recognised his face. He still wore his suit of armour, but his helmet was gone, revealing black-blue overlong wild hair. Did all of their species have the same hair and eye colour? He stared at her, purple eyes dark and cold, but laced with a touch of surprise.

“I sensed your agitation.” He switched his focus to the man who had bitten and kidnapped her. “Is everything well, my prince?”

Prince. Oh my. She had been right on the money. Her kidnapper was a prince. A prince of what though?

The other male’s eerie gaze slid back to her and narrowed, and Olivia had the dreadful feeling that he would be all too willing to kill her if she was upsetting the man he had referred to as his prince.

The prince in question shook his head and waved regally, dismissing the male. “That action will not be necessary, Bleu. The female is not a threat to me.”

Olivia bristled at that. She could have killed him when she’d had him unconscious on her inspection table. Not a threat her ass.

Both men slid deadly looks her way and Olivia realised she had said it all aloud. She shrank back, trying to make herself look as small and nonthreatening as possible.

One single bite reveals she is his eternal mate, triggering a bond between them that will leave him weakened until it is completed… or broken, and pulling Olivia into the crossfire of his ancient feud.

To protect his people and his mate from the machinations of a madman, Loren must risk everything by working with Olivia at Archangel to find a way to break the bond blossoming between them.

But will Loren be strong enough to place duty before desire and give up the one thing he has waited millennia for and craves above all others—his eternal mate? And will Olivia be able to resist the incredible heat that burns between them and the temptation of her dark prince’s kiss?
