Raven1and4Free
Human life has value. The poor living in the gutter is as valuable as the rich living in a manor. The scoundrel is no less valuable than the saint. Because of this, every life a reaper takes must be redeemed.

Raven has lived by this first tenet since she was trained by her father to become a reaper. But since his death, she’s been spending years redeeming the lives she’s taken. By her count, she’s even and it’s time for that life to end. If she settles down and becomes a wife, she might just feel human again. But on the way to the life she thinks she wants, the baron of New Haven asks her to complete a task which she cannot ignore… Just when Raven decides to give up on her life as an assassin, she’s pulled right back in. The Chronicles of Steele: Raven is a steampunk-inspired fantasy set in an alternate universe.

Interview with S.R. Grey

Can you give us a brief overview of your latest book? Is it part of a series?Absolutely! My newest novel is Inevitable Detour. It is the first installment in the 2-book Inevitability duology. Inevitable Detouris a wild ride about a college-age girl, Essa, whose roommate and best friend goes missing after a night of partying. Essa teams up with her missing best friend’s brother, Farren. He’s an ex-Special Forces guy with a mysterious background, and Essa ends up on a journey of not only finding her friend, but also of finding herself.
Do you have a favorite character?I think right now my favorite character is Farren Shaw from Inevitable Detour. He’s such an enigma. And as I get started on the second book in the duology, Inevitable Circumstances, I’m finding there’s so much more depth to him than even I anticipated.
What is your writing process? Do you listen to music or do you like silence?I usually write in silence. Sometimes I will have the TV on low in the background, though. Music influences some of my stories and chapters, but it’s usually inspiration found when listening to songs while driving or running.
Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?It depends. I generally like to create a rough outline, with just a couple of notes here and there regarding chapters and the order of things. But I always end up changing it up, making adjustments. And sometimes I just go with an idea in my head and run with it.
Besides Amazon, are there any other sites where your books are for sale?Yes. My novels are also available on Barnes & Noble.
What kinds of marketing [twitter, Facebook, blog, forums] are you involved with for promoting your book(s)?I love social media! I am very active on Facebook, hosting Release Event parties and doing lots of blog page takeovers. I also am active on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
Do you find it difficult to juggle your time between marketing your current book and writing your next book?Sometimes it is, indeed, hard to juggle the two. Finding the right balance is imperative. I set aside writing time and marketing time.
Some fun facts about you, which do you prefer – dogs or cats? Chocolate or vanilla? Coffee or Tea? Talk or Text? Day or Night?Ooh, I love these. Cats, chocolate, tea, text, and night!
Besides writing, do you have any other passions?I do. I love to travel, and my goal is to see all 50 states. I’m up to 47, so I’m getting close. I’ve also traveled to a number of other countries.
What’s next for you?Well, I have the final novel (Just Let Me Love You) of my other New Adult series, Judge Me Not, set to release in January. Prior to that, I am part of an anthology of novellas with a number of other talented authors. That novella will be a departure for me, a combo on Romantic Suspense with a touch of Paranormal Romance. And, last but not least, Inevitable Circumstanceswill come out in the spring of 2015.

Book & Author details:Inevitable Detour by S.R. Grey
(Inevitability #1)
Publication date: September 7th 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Suspense
Synopsis:The day my life took an inevitable detour things got a little crazy. My name is Essalin Brant, but everyone calls me Essa. I attend a small college in a tiny town, and in my twenty-two years of life I’ve never even traveled outside the state of Pennsylvania. You could say my life is pretty boring. I live by the rules. I’m a good girl and nothing exciting ever happens.

But that’s all about to change.

Enter Farren Shaw. Not only is he older and intimidating, but he’s more sure of himself than any 29-year-old man has a right to be. Did I mention that he’s drop-dead gorgeous? Well, he is. He also happens to be my best friend Haven’s brother. And I would be content with just fantasizing about Farren from afar, but when Haven suddenly goes missing, her gorgeous brother is the only one who believes me when I say she was abducted, even though all signs seem to suggest Haven left town willingly.

I know better, though. As does Farren. So when he asks me to accompany him to search for his sister, I accept.

That’s when the real adventure begins.

Our quest to find Haven takes us across the country. And throughout the time we spend together, I find myself falling for Farren . . . falling hard. He's everything I’ve ever wanted. But is he really someone I should fear?

Because aside from making me feel things I’ve never felt before, Farren is hiding something. Something big. What could this stunning man be keeping from me? And why? Is Haven’s disappearance somehow connected to his mysterious job?

All I know is that things are about to get real.

Welcome to the Inevitable Detour that has become my life.

Interview with Rosie Claverton

CodeRunner-FinalCover Tell us about your latest book.Code Runner is the second book in Cardiff-set crime series The Amy Lane Mysteries. When ex-con Jason Carr is framed for murder, agoraphobic hacker Amy Lane must prove his innocence before he is hunted down by vengeful gangs, the police and the mastermind behind it all.
Where did the idea for the book come from?In Binary Witness, the first book in the series, Jason is trying to escape his criminal past and start a new life working for Amy. I wanted to exploit the flaws in his plan, particularly the fact that his past isn’t going anywhere and that he is a huge trouble magnet! I also wanted to look at how quickly Amy’s come to depend on Jason, and how she reacts when he’s taken away from her.
Who and what inspire you to write?I write because I can’t not write. It’s hardwired into me, part of the circuitry. I write because I want to make stories that I want to read, stories about brave women and protective men that all come right in the end. And I wonder after the work of my favourite authors, from classic Austen, Dumas and Christie to modern artists like Jeffrey Deaver and I want to follow in their footsteps.
Each author has his or her own inspiring journey. How did you begin writing?I’ve been telling tall tales since “show and tell” at nursery school! I spent most of my teenage years in various fandoms, writing thousands and thousands of words about my favourite TV shows, but I started my professional work just as I was finishing up medical school. A couple of NaNoWriMos later, plus some scripting work with my friends at Realm Pictures, and I never looked back!
What has been the most pleasant surprise about writing? How about an unexpected down side?I think the biggest surprise is hearing from people who like my book! Complete strangers sending me tweets and messages about it has totally blown me away. I guess the thing I wasn’t expecting was the amount of marketing I’d have to learn about. I never became an author to plan a social media strategy, but that’s the reality of being a writer in the 21st century.
Do you have any writing rituals?Because of my hectic day job, I’ve had to learn whenever and wherever I can snatch a few moments. I prefer to write on my laptop on my bureau or at the dining table, with a cup of tea and snacks nearby. However, I do my best writing on trains, removed from the internet and decent phone signal, totally immersed in the fictional world.
Do you write your books in order?Almost always on the first draft. During editing, I sometimes need to insert a sequence or two at an earlier stage to address a plot hole or bring the continuity into shape. I resist the temptation to write my “favourite bits” first, because then I would never fill in the necessary leaps between!
What is on your writing playlist for this book? For Binary Witness, my playlist was very Jason-focussed with a lot of classic rock. Code Runner had a more Amy-centric flavour, including Unwell by Matchbox Twenty, Numb by Linkin Park and I’m Not Dead by P!nk. Amy’s sister Lizzie makes an appearance in this book, and the song for that sequence was “Somebody That I Used To Know” (the Glee Cast rendition).
Any favourite writing snacks?I love popcorn! I can eat an entire bowl all by myself, preferably butter or salted. I often make a trip to Costa to grab a caramel latte just before I set to work, because who doesn’t love coffee and sugar?
What advice would you give writers who aspire to be published?Read! Read lots of books, particularly in your genre and seek out those similar to your own. Make sure you’re not writing a cliché. Follow your own instincts about what works and doesn’t work in those books. When you’re querying, seek out books by agents you want to represent you – are you similar (but not too similar) to those authors? There is no substitute for reading.
Are you working on anything new right now?I am currently working on the third book in the Amy Lane Mysteries. Jason and Amy are drawn into a murder at the National Museum of Wales and the theft of a priceless Impressionist painting.
Who is your favourite character in your current book?I think it has to be Lewis, Jason’s former best friend and fellow prison inmate. He’s a tough man, a bad man, but his entire world has been torn apart not once, but twice. When Jason and Lewis finally come face to face, it’s with an almighty crash and I adored writing those sequences.

Book Two of The Amy Lane Mysteries
Ex-con Jason Carr has faced down the toughest thugs in Cardiff, but being assistant to a brilliant, eccentric hacker who hasn’t been outdoors in ten years has its own challenges. Still, he and Amy Lane can solve cases even the cops can’t crack. And when a corpse washes up on a beach, Jason can’t resist chasing the clues—or defying Amy by infiltrating the very gangs he once escaped. Amy is distraught when Jason’s pursuit gets him framed for murder. He’s thrown back in prison where he’s vulnerable to people who want him dead. He needs Amy to prove his innocence. Fast.

But Amy hasn’t been honest with him—her panic attacks aren’t getting better. And now, with everything that makes her feel safe ripped away, she must stand alone, using her technological skills to expose a baffling conspiracy and a new kind of online crime. Guest Post by Kitsy Clare: PRIVATE INTERNSHIP

New adult contemporary romance: expanding beyond the college campus
New adult romance exploded on the scene a few years after St. Martins Press ran a contest that stated: “Since twenty-somethings are devouring YA, St. Martin’s Press is seeking fiction similar to YA that can be published and marketed as adult—a sort of an “older YA” or “new adult” fiction.” Readers clamored for novels that described the college experience, first full-time jobs, and their first steamy adult romances as people hit their twenties.
NA authors delved deeply into issues such as in Tammara Webber’s powerful exploration of abuse in Easy, but the novels were always set in college, the drama often occurring in dorms and fraternity parties.
As the genre grows, authors are eager to expand into new subgenres and settings outside of college walls and break out of narrow confines that squeeze the genre into limited pigeonholes. Courtney Lewis, a librarian and blogger, otherwise known as the Sassy Librarian reports on a recent NA panel she attended: “It was suggested that the genre might gain more legitimacy when readers (and librarians and publishers) begin associating it with other genres, broadening the scope of the label.” I heartily agree.
Gritty NA romance that deals with more universal survival skills than the limited setting of the dorm scene is popping up all over. One example is J.R. Redmerski’s The Edge of Never, where the setting is literally the highway. Camryn decides to take a long road trip to reassess the life she’s lived thus far. Another is Collide by Gail McHugh, where Emily moves to NYC to be closer to her boyfriend, but ends up working in an Italian restaurant and meeting a new love. A third example is Nikki Turner’s Project Chick, the saga of a young urban single mom.
In writing my first NA romance, Model Position I stuck to the well-oiled trope template and set it in college. Well, I did stray a little; setting it in art school, where no one lived in dorms, but already had their own edgy apartments in Manhattan’s East Village. Still, many of the scenes were set in the drawing class.

But for the next in my NA Art of Love series, Private InternshipI had a different idea for the setting. Artist Sienna’s bad-boy love interest is a sculptor she interns for. He creates installations out of sugar. What better setting than the factory building I’ve been I’ve been obsessed with for decades: specifically the Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In it, Caz Mason has tons and tons of sugar to play around with!
You see, I moved right around the corner from that spooky factory before the neighborhood became a hipster paradise. I recall strolling by it when it was still in business, ever eager to see which cargo ship had docked on its East River port. They came from Cuba, Brazil, even Thailand—a myriad of exotic, faraway places.

Here’s a summary of Private Internship:
Sienna’s bestie, Harper warned her not to intern for famous bad boy artist, Casper Mason. After all, he just fired Harper who helped Sienna get the interview. But the moment Sienna sees Casper—or Caz—sweaty and practically shirtless and swinging from chains while he works on his sculpture, she’s hooked. He’s the richest, hottest artist in New York, and he lives in the fabulous Williamsburg Sugar Factory. But he’s also an incorrigible game-player, who seems to relish testing Sienna’s loyalty with a string of unsettling tests.
She knows she should get away fast. But by the time Sienna sneaks into his locked storage room and begins to unearth his dark and terrifying secret, she’s fallen way too hard for the handsome, charismatic Caz.
Little did I know that my setting for this novel was going to be a constant fixture in the news last summer when famous sculptress Kara Walker would set up her regal sugar sphinx mama in that doomed place. As Walker explains through her sugar slave boys who, in the heat of the summer, were literally melting—an arm dropping off here, a nose there, the sugar trade was a very nasty business, fueled by oppressed slaves hauled in from Africa to the Caribbean and elsewhere.

Coincidentally, in Private Internship I have Caz quoting from Voltaire’s Candide, when a horrified Candide comes across a slave boy who’s lost an arm and leg. The boy explains: “When we work in the sugar mills and get a finger caught in the machinery, they cut off the hand; but if we try to run away, they cut off a leg … it is the price we pay for the sugar you eat in Europe.”
Caz is no fool; he’s aware of the dark side of his spun-sugar art medium. Ironically, as he tears three sugar packets and pours one after the other into his gourmet blend coffee, he says to Sienna in all seriousness, “Sugar, it’s delicious yet deadly, sweet yet bitter to the arteries. It’s no good for anyone.”
Still, out of Caz and Sienna’s power struggles, a sweet romance just might emerge. And what better place to set it in than an actual defunct sugar factory! So, choose your settings with care. Make sure you’re as passionate about them as you are about your characters and the steamy romance blossoming between them. Don’t get me wrong, a good college romance can still be a fabulous read. But if you’re writing NA romance, be brave, and consider writing beyond the confines of dorm life. If it’s an exciting time and place to you, it will surely be exciting to your readers, as well.

#Excerpt: ICE MASSACRE by Tiana Warner

Somewhere on the Pacific OceanThe young man aimed his crossbow at the water, ready to fire a bolt of solid iron at the first glimpse of flesh beneath the surface.“Sir,” he said, “shouldn’t we have seen one by now?”The captain turned his back to the salty wind, jaw tight. “They know we’re here.”“So what are they doing?”He followed the captain’s gaze. Blackness merged with the empty grey horizon in every direction. A long silence passed, filled only by gentle swells lapping against the ship. The captain drew his own crossbow.“Forming a plan.”All twenty men aboard the ship readied their weapons, reacting in a chain until the last man at the stern took steady aim at the waves.“Make ready your iron, men,” shouted the captain. “We have ripples approaching off the port side.”A handful of places in the water puckered, as if something lingered just below the surface. The sea was too black to tell. Then it happened. Fifty, maybe sixty sea demons burst from the water and slammed against the ship. The men wasted no time. They reacted with trained speed and agility as the demons thrust stones and jagged shells into the wood, both to break holes in the ship and to scale the sides. The men picked them off with bolts of iron and watched them fall one by one back into the sea.But they were outnumbered. Soon the demons were upon the ship, pulling themselves across the deck with bony arms. The young man had already shot a dozen and the water reddened with each passing second.Slow scraping sounds threatened him from behind. He whirled around, crossbow ready. Burning eyes met his, and sharp teeth, bared to rip into his flesh. He gripped the trigger, felt the bow tighten—And the demon was gone. The young man stared into the wide gaze of a girl his own age. With a startled cry, he jerked his aim so the bolt barely missed her.She held a black shell in her hand, sharp at the edges and ready to use as a club. But she didn’t raise it. She just looked at him.He lowered his crossbow. Her blonde hair fell heavily over her shoulders, dripping beads of water down her naked chest and stomach, pooling where her torso joined her tail.He blinked, but made no other motion—where her torso joined her tail. Scales faded into flesh like some sort of beautiful, green and tan sunset. She pulled herself closer.“Stay back,” said the young man, unsure what prompted him to hesitate. He looked into her eyes—emeralds surrounded by pearl white—where moments ago they had burned red. Her sharp teeth had retracted behind rosy lips. The seaweed-coloured flesh of her upper body was now olive and raised with goose bumps from the icy wind.“Hanu aii,” she whispered. Do not fear. She spoke his language. He loosened his grip on the crossbow, studying her. She lifted a frail arm and pushed the hair from her eyes, then motioned him forwards. His pulse quickened as he stared at the beautiful girl.“Hanu aii,” she said again, her voice resonating sweetly, as if she sang without singing.Suddenly, he was kneeling in front of her, level with her luminous eyes. The sounds around him faded but for the soft purr in the base of her throat. She reached up and held an icy hand to his cheek, not for a moment breaking eye contact. The hand slid behind his head and pulled his face towards hers, slowly but firmly. He inhaled her sweet breath.“No!”He flinched. He turned to see the captain racing towards them, aiming his crossbow at the maiden. The young man grasped the scene around him. The ship was empty. A few stray weapons and barrels bobbed serenely in the water. Blood soaked the deck in places, and even the main mast had a splatter across the bottom. The captain fired wide. Before he could reload and aim again, the sea demon put a hand on the young man’s chin and pulled his gaze back to hers. Her eyes blazed red. Her skin rippled into the rotten colour of seaweed. Her ears grew pointed and long like sprouting coral. She opened her mouth to reveal a row of deadly teeth. The young man screamed. The demon pulled him against her with more strength than three men combined, and they dove headfirst off the side of the ship. They disappeared into the blood-red water.***

Interview with Rhonda Helms

Music is a strong running element in SCRATCH, which even includes a playlist at the end. How has music factored in your own life? I started in music when I was 9—I played clarinet. Stayed involved in band through high school and college. I sang in a jazz ensemble, was a singer in a cover band, and I even DJ’d for a while. In short, music was a hugepart of my life for a long time. I miss performing and have even been considering getting involved in it again! Where did you get the idea for SCRATCH? Part of it came from a real-life incident I’d heard that had stuck with me for many years. I always wondered what had happened to the girl who’d gone through such a traumatic event. How did she cope? How did she move on to love and trust again? This book was my exploration of how a woman who’d gone through hell could move forward and find real happiness. Which scene in SCRATCH was the hardest for you to write? Oh, it had to be the scene where Casey confesses to Daniel about her past. Finally opens up and divulges the painful truth. I sobbed as I wrote it—her pain was so vivid to me that I couldn’t shake it off for a while afterward. That was actually one of the hardest scenes I’ve ever written in my whole publishing career. What is the follow-up book to SCRATCH? The sequel to SCRATCH is BREAK YOUR HEART, which is her roommate Megan’s story. I can’t wait for you guys to read it—this one’s a little sexier, a little scandalous. And Nick is s

Synopsis:The most painful scars are the ones you never see.In her DJ booth at a Cleveland dance club, Casey feels a sense of connection that’s the closest she ever gets to normal. On her college campus, she’s reserved, practical–all too aware of the disaster that can result when you trust the wrong person. But inexplicably, Daniel refuses to pay attention to the walls she’s put up. Like Casey, he’s a senior. In every other way, he’s her opposite.
Sexy, open, effortlessly charming, Daniel is willing to take chances and show his feelings. For some reason Casey can’t fathom, he’s intent on drawing her out of her bubble and back into a world that’s messy and unpredictable. He doesn’t know about the deep scars that pucker her stomach–or the deeper secret behind them. Is it part of a series?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">My latest—and first—book is called <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Aegis Rising</i> and it is part of the Aegis League series. I’m currently working on book two, <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Aegis Incursion</i>, which is due for release in November of this year.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">Aegis Rising</span></i><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;"> is a basically a good old-fashioned, good versus evil story with a modern twist. Five teenage friends are in a small plane heading to Yukon for their vacation when a freak storm appears out of nowhere. The plane is struck by lightning and crashes into the remote forests of Northern Canada. When the friends regain consciousness, they find themselves in an uncharted valley inhabited by a mysterious people who have chosen to remain hidden from the rest of the world for centuries. The Elders of the village believe that the five are the chosen ones from their ancient prophecy and as such, are obligated to train them in their ways in order to prepare them to save the planet from a dark storm gathering on humanity’s horizon.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">Do you have a favorite character?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">I have a tendency to bounce from one character to another, and it entirely depends on how I’m feeling. Kody and Tegan have been my favorites as of late, but sometimes I’m partial to characters who have smaller roles; I suspect that this will continue on as I bring more characters into the series.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">If you used a graphic designer/publisher’s designer, how involved were you during the creative process for your cover?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">My dear dad was the person who designed the cover, actually, so I was quite involved! We’ve had the cover idea planned for a few years but it went through several modifications. I’d mainly give input regarding the positioning and sizing of different layers on the cover.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">What is your writing process? Do you listen to music or do you like silence?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">My writing process first begins with jotting down notes for a specific chapter or scene (if it’s an action scene, it’ll be storyboarded). Then I head over to my laptop to begin the actual writing. Depending on my mood, I’ll either start typing right away or I’ll need to take some time to immerse myself into the story. Sometimes I work in total silence, but quite often I’ve got music going and they’re normally instrumentals. Some are Celtic tunes, others are action scores and even original soundtracks from certain video games.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">Both. I find that it’s good to have structure—a vision to know where you want the story to go and to ensure that you don’t sway from the arc of the plot. At the same time, I believe it’s vital to let imagination unfold organically within the framework of said arc. While having a plan is good, there’s something inspiring about letting creativity fuel the process of writing. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">Did you hire an editor to review your manuscript before publishing?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">I did indeed hire an editor before publishing Aegis Rising. He’s been a wonderful help. I’ve learned several things from him and we often discuss parts of the book that need some work to hopefully make it the best it can be. It’s great to work with someone who’s had years of experience in this field.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">What have you’ve learned during your self-publishing journey?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">I’ve learned that the job is not over when the book is published! There are promotions, book events, interviews and loads of other marketing-related things to do. It sort of caught me by surprise, especially because I’m more used to being behind a keyboard than going around trying to promote my novel on media or at events. It’s something that takes me out of my comfort zone, but I’m slowly starting to embrace it.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">Besides writing, do you have any other passions?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">I used to do horseback riding and I absolutely loved it. The horses were usually so sweet and riding one is almost like flying. I also draw when I can find time and inspiration, and I enjoy reading as well as gaming. I recently went skydiving for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I’ll certainly be doing more of that.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">How about some fun facts-which do you prefer? Dogs or cats, coffee or tea, vanilla or chocolate, morning or night?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">I’m a dog-loving girl, and I’m especially fond of the big ones. I don’t really take coffee or tea but if I had to choose, it would be tea. As for vanilla or chocolate—how about chocolate-vanilla ice cream?? I definitely prefer nighttime as opposed to morning, as that’s when I’m the most creative (that can sometimes be unfortunate because there are instances when I’ll be drawing until 5 a.m.).</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">What’s next for you?</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">I intend to finish the rest of the Aegis League series—I have planned for five books in total—and then explore other concepts for future novels. Some ideas that I’d be keen on diving into are post-apocalyptical, steampunk, espionage and/or historical scenarios.</span></div><br /><br /><b><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Title: </span></b><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Aegis Rising</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Series: </span></b><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Aegis League Series #1</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Author:</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> S.S. Excerpt: ORANGE MOON AFFAIR by AFN Clarke

Excerpt:
“There’s only one way. Jump.”
“You come up here and do it.”
“Mother of Mary, just jump and stop whining.”
“Whose side are you on?”
“Listen to me. It’s deep where the water crashes into the pool. If you can jump clear then you’ll hit the pool just right. It’s either that or be caught, because no way can you get down that rock face.”
What a choice. Kill myself in the fall or be shot by the guys who were now fast on my trail. I looked back again. The buggy had reached the river’s edge and was less than two hundred metres away.
Still, I hesitated.
My mind was made up for me as a searchlight beam swept over me. The first round cracked past my ear as I launched myself into space.
The drop sent my guts up into my mouth as I tumbled in the air for an eternity, then hit the water with a stunning impact that knocked the breath out of me.
Somewhere a part of my brain was functioning as a rational logical machine. It took over and told my frozen, aching body that I had to swim away from the fall of water before I could surface. I was only under for about twenty seconds, but to me it seemed like an eternity before I felt someone grab my arms.
Everything went black as I passed out.
When I came to, I was lying on the bank wrapped in an emergency space blanket and Danny had his hand over my mouth. I could see a shaft of light playing on the surface of the pool from above and caught the intermittent sound of voices through the crash of the waterfall.

BLURB:Thomas Gunn (ex-Special Forces) and his partner Julie are running for their lives. Who are they running from? And why? It all starts when Thomas decides to investigate the mysterious murder of his billionaire industrialist father. He’s shocked when his every move is blocked, especially by top levels of the UK government. But when his attempts to track down an elusive American business partner of his father’s turn lethal, he and Julie become moving targets, racing to outwit those who clearly want them dead. The danger rapidly escalates when Thomas is reluctantly compelled back into working for British Military Intelligence, exposing an international conspiracy that puts the freedom of the western world at grave risk.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:AFN Clarke is a full-time author, screenwriter, the son of a British MI6 operative, former officer in Britain's elite Parachute Regiment, pilot, sailor, racecar driver and father of four who's lived in Hong Kong, India, Libya, Iran, Europe, the UK, USA, and Australia. He's written seven books of fiction and his bestselling memoir, CONTACT, was serialized in a British newspaper and made into an award-winning BBCTV film.
This rich background allows Clarke to bring his own unique and eye opening experiences to his latest Thomas Gunn thriller series that are fast-paced, thought provoking and frighteningly real and have captured the imagination of readers world-wide. As he says: "For me, good books are a great way to shut out every day life, suspend normal ways of thinking, and allow yourself to be captivated by another world. That’s what I continually strive to deliver to my readers."

Guest Post: Limp-wristed or Kickass heroines? by Cari Silverwood

This is a little like the question you get at that well-known fast-food chain when you buy a burger – would you like a kick-ass heroine with that? In dark erotic romances (even if the romance is a little one-sided) you often have a story where the angst revolves around the man forcibly convincing her that he’s the yang to her ying. If she comes up short in the feistiness and kick-him-in-the crotch department...where’s the story?Like they say about most books – it’s not the ending that matters so much as the journey. We often know, or have a fair idea, as to how these stories will end, but seeing that change in her as no becomes yes or maybe or sometimes just my life with this man has a lot of pluses compared to my old one and I really do fancy him and his muscles/ motorbike/ helicopter ...all of that is why we read these. Plus the odd plot twist that surprises us...and the smoking hot sex.Nevertheless, there may be limits as to kickassedness. If she’s too good at kung fu or taking out hordes of crack-crazed criminals with a shotgun, it does get a little difficult for the man to hogtie her and sit on her. Balance is always necessary. Either that or the author has to supply him with a ton of smarts and some great luck. Sometimes this manifests as him going oh look at the pretty sunset while he locks on the handcuffs.I started thinking about this when someone told me they loved that Jazmine in Seize me From Darkness wasn’t limp and emotionally frail. I hadn’t even considered her as kick ass. But in a way she is. Just not in the I can kill a hundred enemies with my pinkie finger way. It made me wonder how defiant people want their heroines in these books. If my story wasn’t set in the everyday world, I could add in a very tough heroine. But then I think a bit deeper and realize that a lot of the buzz I get from reading or writing these is because they’re based on the real world.I think most readers like these dark erotic books with a high quota

AUTHOR BIOCari Silverwood is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling writer of kinky darkness or sometimes of dark kinkiness, depending on her moods and the amount of time she's spent staring into the night. She has an ornery nature as well as a lethal curiosity that makes her want to upend plots and see what falls out when you shake them.

When others are writing bad men doing bad things you may find her writing good men who accidentally on purpose fall into the abyss and come out with their morals twisted in knots.

This might be because she comes from the land down under, Australia, or it could be her excessive consumption of wine.

Freaking out readers is her first love and her second love is freaking out the people living in her books. Her favorite hobby is convincing people she has a basement...though she really doesn't. Promise. If it existed it would be a terrifying place where you would find all the dangerous things that you never knew you craved.

Own me Until Forever, Book 5 in the Pierced Hearts series, will be out late 2014
