Since then she's discovered many more, but none quite so fulfilling as creating a world, a character, or a moment and watching them evolve into something complex and compelling. Excerpt: A FISTFUL OF CLONES by Seaton Kay-Smith

Entering the abandoned mill’s front office, Henry passed the security guard fiddling with his phone and approached the receptionist, a young woman in a smart white blouse and navy-blue skirt. She looked up at Henry, who stared into her amber eyes with a steely look of determination.
Henry’s hand moved slowly but steadily to his breast pocket, his eyes never leaving the receptionist’s. Her heart beat faster. Henry could hear it. His hand disappeared into his jacket and promptly returned, not with a gun, but with a piece of paper: an advertisement, yellowed and weather-bleached.
Henry slammed it on the table in front of her. “I’d like to do it,” he said. Then remembering his manners, “Please.”
The receptionist looked across her desk to the paper she was presented with. She picked it up and studied it once more before returning her gaze to Henry. “Do you understand all the risks?”
“There’s understanding and there’s accepting,” Henry said with a gritty resolve, “and I see no reason to need both.”
The pair remained locked in their stranglehold gazes, neither willing to be the first to look away, to give in, to show weakness. The security guard watched on, his hand resting on his taser, ready for action but unsure of what action to take.
Finally, the increasingly tense silence was broken as the receptionist offered Henry a standard ballpoint pen. “Sign here.”
Henry cocked his head and smiled briefly. “The name’s Henry,” he said as he signed the document with that very name. Then, raising the pen to his mouth as if he was blowing smoke from a recently fired pistol, Henry pursed his lips and blew.
“What are you doing?” asked the receptionist, confused by his inappropriate and disease-spreading behaviour. That was her pen; she had to use that pen.
Henry’s gritty resolve dropped; his awkward self-awareness returned. It was as though he had suddenly sobered up at a party and realised he wasn’t actually having fun. An overwhelming sense of average took over his entire body and his mind went blank. Gone were his delusions of grandeur. He felt like a child in a world of adults. “I was just …” He stammered, unsure of what to say. “I was just blowing the pen.”
The receptionist leaned forwards in her chair. “Don’t.” She snatched the pen back from him.
Henry, shaken, feeling small, his voice almost a whisper, replied, “Sorry, I’ll take a—”
“Take a seat,” she said.
He was no cowboy, no western hero. He was just a man with a signature, a name, and little else. Henry took a seat and, fighting off a blush, picked up a magazine. It was a celebrity gossip magazine. Sometimes, it seemed, Henry couldn’t win anything.

BLURB:Henry Madison is an apathetic young man with little to no ambition. When he loses his job and his girlfriend in one day, he is destitute and signs up for paid medical testing. The doctor creates clones of Henry and when these clones escape and start causing havoc in Henry's life, he is hired in secret by the strange doctor and trained to hunt the clones down one by one and kill them.
Henry soon finds out, however, that personality isn't genetic but made of the experiences you have, and as time progresses, his clones become less carbon copied than he was lead to believe, growing their own identities and challenging Henry's perception of what it means to be Henry Madison and of what it is right and what is wrong.

#Excerpt: THE BIKER AND THE BANKER'S DAUGHTER by David Spiteri

Brian thanked Winnie. ‘I was in a bit of trouble in there.’
‘How did it start?’
‘A couple of them footy hero loudmouths put shit on the girls and I told them to shut up. They didn’t like it and got stuck into me.’
The girl Brian brought along for the ride brushed his hair off his forehead and kissed his eye. He grabbed her hand and led her into the shadows. The boys had the other slut undressed in the moonlight while Big Kev unbuckled his belt.
‘After a fight, Winnie, there’s nothing like a good fuck.’
He dropped his jeans and slid them down around his ankles. The boys whispered to each other about who’d be next. Ocker decided he was going last so he could take her home for the night. While Brian had his turn, Winnie and Kev sat in the park and sipped rum and watched the ferries and fishing boats crisscrossing the harbour.
‘I think Brian’s in love,’ Big Kev sneered. ‘He’s had that sheila to himself all night, the bastard.’
Kev was getting restless and Winnie yelled out, ‘Come on, Brian, it’s time to get out of here.’
Brian brought the girl over. ‘Gina, meet Winnie and Kev.’
‘G’day, boys.’
‘G’day,’ they replied. They were pretty unimpressed that Brian had attached himself so quickly to a slut from the Cross.
‘Okay, I’m going to give Gina a lift home.’
‘See you on Monday.’ Ocker was fucking the other girl on the grass in the shadows and all they could see was his waving hand and the moonlight bouncing off his bare arse.
Brian turned up about ten o’clock on Monday, a black eye but all smiles. Winnie asked if he still had the slut from the other night and Brian’s face darkened. He grabbed Winnie by the throat.
‘Don’t ever call her that again.’
The boys had never seen him flip out before. His eyes turned steely. He’d obviously done his balls over the slut overnight.
Winnie grabbed Brian’s wrist, twisted it off his throat and said very quietly and calmly, ‘Don’t ever touch me like that again.’ Big Kev and Ocker watched silently.
‘What’s her name?’
‘Gina.’
‘Well, I’m sure you and Gina are going to be happy together.’ Winnie’s voice turned dry and his eyes black.

#Excerpt: A REAPER OF STONE by Mark Gelineau & Joe King

At the word, Elinor felt a cold inside her that had nothing to do with the chilling rain. “They were attacked by bandits.”
“They were not killed by mere bandits,” she hissed. “My father was a tempered razor of the Aegis School. He was a match for a dozen armed men. Perhaps more. That is no exaggeration.” She stared into Elinor's eyes with a fierce intensity. “The death of my father and Lady Lliane was no accident. It was an assassination.”
“Stop,” Elinor commanded. She looked around to be sure there were none of Piersym's razors nearby. Two were outside, but on the far side of the tower. Elinor assumed that over the rain, they wouldn't have heard what the girl said.
“You don't believe me?” Tae asked, the hurt clear in her eyes.
Elinor moved close, until they were almost nose to nose. Her voice was quiet, but carried a sharp edge of intensity. “It is not about belief,” Elinor said, holding the girl with her gaze. “You must be careful what you say. Some things once said, cannot be unsaid.”
Tae looked confused and Elinor continued on. “If you make an accusation, you turn your home into a den of wolves.” She shifted her eyes in the direction of the Hearthfire razors on the far end of the parapet. “And these wolves will not allow you to escape if they believe you threaten them.”
The girl frowned, but shook her head defiantly. “But you said it yourself. You fought every day for what you believed in. How is this any different than the rendworms?”
“Because this is not a fight you can win, Tae,” Elinor said.

BLURB:
Elinor struggles to find her place in the new world. She once dreamed of great things. Of becoming a hero in the ways of the old world. But now she is a Reaper. And her duty is clear. Destroy the old. Herald the new.

Guest Post by Kendra Highley, FINDING PERFECT

5) Pride and Prejudice (The A&E version) Does this really count? I think so, since Lizzie was only twenty when her epic romance with Mr. Darcy began. Plus, Lydia? Scandalous, silly Lydia? Only fifteen and proof that even two hundred years ago, some teen girls are seriously boy crazy. The angst and the tension and the miscues between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy are superb. It even made my 12 year old daughter sigh. Oh, and the pond. Collin Firth, I tip my hat, sir. Jennifer Ehle was delightful as Lizzie—lovely, sharp tongued, and independent.
4) Juno Based on this list, Michael Cera might be emerging as my unlikely favorite leading man. Truth is—he picks great movies. Juno is a unique and quirky love story about a girl who got pregnant by her friend the very first time they had sex. The love story comes into play with them becoming closer while they cope with this big change. Juno (a remarkable Ellen Page) also makes the decision to give her baby up for adoption and that’s a love story, too. The line, “She never really belonged to us,” makes me cry every single time.
3) Some Kind of WonderfulOkay, if you’ve only indulged in Say Anything as your 80s teen movie, you missed a few. One of my favorites isn’t one you usually see on lists, though. Some Kind of Wonderful is a crazy-amazing look at the divide between popular/rich and unpopular/working class. John Hughes wrote it, and his touch shines through. If you took Pretty in Pink, gender flipped it, and gave it the ending we really wanted—there you have it. It’s gloriously acted by Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Lea Thompson. Key line: “You look good wearing my future.” Swoon!
2) Nick and Nora’s Infinite PlaylistThis might be all about the casting, but the adventure of running around NYC, looking for a band leaving clues about where they’ll perform, is also an achingly sweet love story. The scene in the recording studio? Wow. Michael Cera and Kat Dennings are adorable together and the whole movie makes you feel like your greatest moment is right there, waiting.
1) The Breakfast Club This movie stands up. It’s amazing how well it stands up. I saw it first when I was 13. I remember it so clearly (I was home with strep and thoroughly miserable)— it made me How about you? What are some of your favorites?

#Excerpt: DARK BETRAYAL by LaTaeya Lane

While I ate with Angelo, I thought about how different my life had become since I discovered my history and my powers— the places I’ve traveled, and the creatures I’d met on my journey.
There was Tristan, Angelo’s friend and a vampire, who had become my protector, and the elves Elwyn and Elin, brothers who had given one of their lives for me. Lothos was an angel who had sworn allegiance to my mother and now was helping me, not to mention my friend Amy, Luna’s sister. Although she was human, she was helping to manage my mother’s company since Luna died.
All of these creatures had become an important part of my life. Despite how much they meant to me, I felt that everything had spiraled out of control. The only thing I was sure of was my love for my guardian angel, my watcher—Angelo.

BLURB:Nephilim Sydney London has embraced her angelic heritage, crossed the borders between life and death and traveled throughout the dimensions in order to save the people she loves. Exposed to a supernatural world, Sydney now must face the repercussions of healing her Darkness consumed mother Pandora.
As a fugitive magical being Pandora's involvement with the Angel Vampires is uncertain. Instructed by the Archangel Michael, Sydney must track down her mother before she possibly leads the Angel Vampires to Pandora’s Box. Sydney continues to risk her life as she delves deeper into the elements of a world that hangs in limbo. Her Guardian Angel struggles to protect her as the threats of evil rise in an attempt to recruit Sydney and possess her powers for their own malicious agenda.

#Excerpt: K9 BLUE: GROUND ZERO by Matt McCredie

‘Jesus Christ’. One brother officer was lying under pot plants in a pool of his own blood, while the other was being strangled by one of the biggest Islanders he had ever seen, who was seemingly immune to the punches and kicks of the two door men on his back. The only damage and pain they were inflicting was on themselves as their blows bounced off his muscled exterior. It took about half a second before Mike pulled himself together.
‘Dog 26, signal one! Officer down, get everyone here now!’
The radio answered, but Mike wasn’t listening. He ran forward, which was relatively easy as Falcon was working all four legs at double overtime. He had targeted the massive Samoan and was going to take him on no matter what. Mike knew what was coming and yelled out to the bouncers.
‘Get off him, now!’
As soon as the two bouncers were clear of the action, Mike let go of the lead, releasing Falcon about five metres from his target. The Samoan looked up just in time to see a set of open jaws on a direct collision course with his face. He let go of the female cop, raising his fists in a vain attempt to punch the flying dog back to where it came from. All too late, he opened his mouth to yell. Falcon locked jaws with the Islander, driving his snout clean into the man’s mouth and clamping his jaws shut. The soft tissue inside the drunken cavity popped and tore as Falcon bit down even harder, using the strength in his powerful neck to shake the man left and right; he forced the Samoan to the ground. He couldn’t even scream in terror or pain as Falcon still filled his mouth. He moved his ham-sized hands to Falcon’s throat, not to try and force him off, but to strangle him.
Mike saw what was happening and, even though he knew Falcon could take care of himself, he took exception to this grub trying to throttle his mate. He raised his long baton up over his shoulder and swung the entire spun-aluminium shaft down as hard as he could, smashing it into the right elbow of the bulging arm. The devastating impact popped the joint, which forced his forearm down on an ugly, unnatural angle. Dislocated, it swung uselessly to his side. The blood sprayed harder from the corners of the Samoan’s mouth as he forced the deep red fluid out with his silent scream. His manic breathing forced air noisily between Falcon’s jowls and his own torn mouth.
‘Sorry, mate, just evening things up,’ Mike quipped as he saw other police wading into the crowd. They barged towards the front doors, pushing bodies aside in their frantic attempts to back up their mates.
‘I’ll take care of this idiot. You guys check on those two. And we’re going to need three ambulances.’
Mike directed the rest of the police around the scene as he leaned over Falcon and gave him his command to let go. Falcon’s broad chest and muscular front legs were splattered with a gory reminder of his emphatic victory. He stood next to Mike with his ears up and his chest stuck out with pride. His hackles were still up and massive paws firmly planted, daring anyone else to come near for the same treatment. He kept up a low, menacing growl, interrupted at intervals by a booming bark as he watched four other police officers handcuff and drag the Samoan over to a waiting ambulance. The layer of blood splattered over his chest and body only made him look crazier. Mike checked over Falcon’s body to make sure there were no injuries.
‘Jesus, mate, you really went to town on this one. Now you look like a prop from a bad horror movie.’
He took out a hose from behind the pot plants and washed the red stain away from Falcon’s black and tan fur. Satisfied with the quick rinse, he trotted him back over to their car. There was no need to yell at anyone or tell them to move. They had all seen it, and nobody wanted to take the chance of becoming the next bite bag.

BLURB:Lately though, it seems that violent incidents are on the rise. When Mike and Falcon's beloved commander is killed in action, Mike is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, but he has no idea just how deep this malevolent plot runs.
A terrorist organisation has devised a plan to attack the city from all sides, and they have taken over a refuelling ship in Sydney Harbour. Mike and Falcon must use all of their wit and courage to battle the killers, expose police corruption, and, if they're lucky, save a city from obliteration.

#Excerpt: HELLKAT by Robyn Roze

“You don’t have any problem renting a tux, right?”
He cleared his throat. “Not at all.”
Kat’s eyes narrowed. “Just to be clear: black jeans and a sport coat aren’t considered a tux here.” He bit down on his lip to stop the grin so clearly wanting to spread. “Take care of that while I’m at work, would you? I have a friend who can get us great seats—tonight even. I’m sure of it. Doesn’t that sound like fun?” A killer smile lit up her face.
Tucker nodded once. The playfulness in his eyes and tight set of his lips broadcasted he understood this to be a test, and that he wasn’t about to give up any points.
Her body hummed with exhilaration.
She checked the time on her smartphone. “I have to get back to the office now. I’ll call you with the details.” She smacked her lips together in an air kiss. Her giggle could not be stopped.Kat sashayed away, confident that not only was he watching her ass but also wondering if the opera would be the worst of his punishments.

Maybe-someday came for Robyn in 2013 when she published the Keeper Series, a new adult romantic suspense story. Then she shifted gears and decided to pen a novel with a much more mature cast—Chain of Title was born, her bestselling title. Readers have been loud in their demand for a sequel, and Robyn is currently working on the next chapter of Shayna and Sean's love story. And her latest book, HellKat, released in June 2015. All of Robyn’s stories contain one key element that her readers love: a strong, independent heroine.
When she’s not spending time with her fictional families, she loves to spend time with her real one: her high school sweetheart, their two moody teenagers, and a pampered rescue mutt.
