Let It Be Sunday, 461!

Let It Be Sunday, 461!

Hello, friends!

One of my kids is riddled with anxiety which, of course, stresses me out. So anxious is his entire little generation—these Covidians—that they named the new character in this summer’s Inside Out sequel Anxiety. But recently I stumbled upon a trick that helps calm his nerves at least for a bit. Since he’s most chatty before bed, he’ll start ticking off things that worry him right when I’m ready to clock out for the evening.

Let It Be Sunday, 460!

Let It Be Sunday, 460!

Friends, hello! How are you? I’ve missed you. It feels like it’s been too long since we’ve had a proper catch up.

Last Easter weekend, Will and I were driving back to Houston from a camping trip (well, he was driving and I was eating ranch dip and potato chips in the passanger seat) and the highway was speckled with cars stopped along the side of the road. I can’t tell if it was planned or spontaneous, but families had stopped at various point on the road to pose in the wildflower patches in their Easter Sunday best.

Happy Easter, friends!

Happy Easter, friends!

Good morning and Good Easter Sunday, friends.

I’m taking a bit of a spring break this weekend, out sleeping under the stars in middle Texas. I’ve made this sturdy carrot salad, a loaf of bread, and chicken soup (that truly no one asked for because who eats chicken soup while they’re camping!?) for the weekend.  I’m full of ideas. Not all of them are great.

Crème Fraiche Quiche Lorraine

Crème Fraiche Quiche Lorraine

Someone recently asked me what my desert island cookbook would be. You know… the one cookbook so dear to you, you’d take it as your sole cookbook to be stranded on a dessert island. Logically I should opt for a book with advice on building fires, catching fish and climbing coconut trees but, I’m envisioning a more Gilligan’s Island desert island situation (and I’m Thurston Howell III with trunks of kitchen supplies).

My answer: The Gourmet Cookbook.

Lemon Poppy Seed Kolache

Lemon Poppy Seed Kolache

As you know, I’ve entered my kolache era.  Here’s a twist on a classic kolache recipe using an enriched dough with a lemon curd and poppy seed twist. They’re a perfect springtime Texas pastry.

I have this daydream that one day in the not so distant future I’ll be slingin’ kolaches and coffee in my little backyard bakery.  I can’t tell if it’s a daydream or a premonition, but I’m generally in the business of making my own dreams come true so….

Let It Be Sunday, 459!

Let It Be Sunday, 459!

Hello friends! How are you? If you’ve read my other Let It Be posts, you know that I am a BIG FAN of Spring and Summer, and dang it, we made it! I’m thrilled. The sun has been shining here in California, and I walked my dogs in a tank top the other day. The Birkenstocks are OUT. I feel like my soul is re-growing.

Recently, I came across a writer who shared that she makes seasonal resolutions.

I Made Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits and You Really Should, Too!

I Made Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits and You Really Should, Too!

Breaking biscuit news, friends!

A few weeks ago I was in Charleston, SC for the Charleston Wine and Food festival and I’ll tell you what – Charleston might have the best food in the country.  Every meal was a banger.

But the biscuits? Y’all, I was not ready for the biscuits.  If you’re in or near Charleston, you’re very well familiar with the pillow biscuits that are Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits

Let It Be Sunday, 458!

Let It Be Sunday, 458!

Happy St. Patty’s Day friends! Spring has sprung and so have I with a terrible cold (that might actually be the flu?).  How passée, honestly. The only bright side about getting sick is the idea that I’ve gotten it out of the way for the rest of the season. I know that theory doesn’t hold water, but a girl can be delusional in her recovery.

My sister Launa and her husband Chad are visiting me in Houston this weekend.

Spring Asparagus Salad with white beans and almonds

Spring Asparagus Salad with white beans and almonds

Friends HI HELLO, listen…

I’m peeking up from the throes of home buying like a little groundhog from her little burrow hole because EASTER is coming which mean SPRING is nearly here which means trees are sprouting, and Texas wildflowers are blooming, and asparagus is fresh, and jelly bean varieties are in the candy aisle and – this might be my favorite time of year.

I’m ready to shake off winter, aren’t you?
