The NSA Files – out soon

It’s rather crazy that after all these years of writing and publishing novels that I am actually about to release a book that is tied to the news. I’ve never considered trying to do such a thing. After all, one news story, even if it lasts for a month, would take a good year to write, edit, find a cover design, market, etc. By that time, most “timely” stories are long gone. So, having all this talk about the NSA just when I’m about to release my new book, is kind-of cool.

You have to know, though, that I write fiction. The NSA Files is about a shaman who is hired by the NSA to spy on some politicians and business people using the internet to sway votes in a particularly profitable direction for them. I’ve wanted to write about a shaman for a long time. It’s something I’ve studied and read a lot about, and something that ads a chance to deliver information in a new way. Totem animals, a variety of landscapes, and interesting interpretations all become one flowing piece of work for me in the book. I personally connected with the characters and hope that readers will do the same.

The news has highlighted the NSA in a way that I could not have done. The debate about what they’re doing, I’m sure, will go on for a while. What’s great about writing a novel is that I can ramp up the dramatic aspect all I want and really have fun with the storyline.

Writing is about that fun, to me. I want to write something that I would want to read. I want to play with ideas and concepts as well as emotions and character personalities. I know I had fun writing The NSA Files, and hope that readers will enjoy equally as much.

Watch for the book to come out in less than a week.

Nature Walks

"To this day, if I become stuck on a plot, ...I can get clear again with a simple walk in nature. There is something about trees, water, the smell of loam, that takes me to my core again, allows me to let go and be the creative person I have always been."

Sunrise

"I’m up before sunrise every day. I work through sunrise, unless I’m taking a short break to get a second cup of coffee... [W]hen I work on something creative in the morning before I do anything else during the day, I am at peace with myself, and that peace carries me inspirationally through the remainder of the day."

No Idea

[image error] "When I consider how little control I have over my writing, I can’t help but project that fact into the rest of my life. What will I say to my daughter in a half hour, to my wife tonight before we go to sleep? What will I write tomorrow or next week? I don’t know any of the answers to these questions."
