Washington Post: “Mitt Romney still has a Mormon problem”

Disarming fools

“I’m all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let’s start with typewriters.” Frank Lloyd Wright (1868-1959)   Of course, today, we would need to get computers out of such hands.  But fools are all over the internet.  They infest newspaper comments sections.  And, as has been pointed [Read More...]

Matthew 5:17-20 Compare Mark 13:31; Luke 16:16-17   There are those, particularly among Evangelical Protestants, who sometimes seem (to me, at least) to come perilously close to teaching an antinomian view of Jesus — one for which rules of conduct are, in a sense, irrelevant.   Today’s reading provides little support for such [Read More...]

Charles Hard Townes

Charles H. Townes, who won the 1964 Nobel Prize in physics for his work on the laser, died yesterday at the age of 99.   I wrote about Professor Townes a few months ago:   http://www.patheos.com/blogs/danpeter...   He was not only a superb physicist but a vocally believing Christian.  “Impossible!” some will cry.
