“Nourishing the Aging Brain”

My first reaction to this article was disappointment and (some) anger.  Nourishing the Aging Brain has been the working title for my projected autobiography, which, of course, focuses largely on my daily experiences with Krispy Kreme doughnuts over the past eight or nine decades.   Still, I sometimes try to share practical, relevant information [Read More...]

Assyrian Christians, the latest captives of the “Islamic State”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03...   It was my privilege, for a short period, to work with and know a bishop of the Assyrian Church of the East, Mar Bawai Soro.  A fine man.  A good man, and kind.   Posted from San Jose, California

“Taking a leaf from the Armenians’ book”

Few Western Christian realize that the first country in the Old World to become Christian wasn’t Constantine’s Roman Empire.  It was Armenia.   And one of Armenia’s great medieval figures, St. Gregory of Narek (ca. AD 951-1003), a monk, poet, theologian, and mystic, has just been declared a “doctor” (i.e., a major, recognized [Read More...]

“5 places women shouldn’t spend their travel dollars”

How on earth did I manage to miss this piece of blithering idiocy when it was published in the New York Post back on 1 December of last year?   http://nypost.com/2014/12/01/5-places...   Out of all of the places on the planet . . .   Read it and laugh.  Or weep.

New Testament 91

Matthew 8:28-34 Mark 5:1-20 Luke 8:26-39   “Gadarenes” or “Gerasenes”?  Hard to know.   This is a remarkable story.  And the notion that evil spirits desire to be incarnated so badly that they would rather be cast into pigs than be at large is interesting, as well.

Do not be this guy.

Apparently, when the “Kiss Cam” focuses on couples at the game, they’re supposed to kiss each other.  But the tyranny of technology can interfere, as it did in one case here.  Watch to the end:   https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=...

“Mormon Tabernacle Choir inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame”

A nice announcement that was made on Thursday evening:   http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article...   Incidentally, my wife and I attended a concert at BYU tonight by The King’s Singers.  Their precision was, as it always is, remarkable.  They did a large number of pieces, all American, ranging from spirituals to Cole Porter and Rodgers and [Read More...]
