New Testament 95

Matthew 9:18-26 Mark 5:21-43 Luke 8:40-56   These accounts are interesting, among other reasons, because the story of one miracle is contained within the story of another.   I’ll concentrate on just one of them here.   Try to imagine the case of the woman with a hemorrhage.  For twelve years.  One hundred [Read More...]

Sometimes, I confess, it’s embarrassing to be so . . . well, COOL.

There’s been non-stop, wall-to-wall good music here at the “Jazz Bash by the Bay.”  Thus far, though, I would say that my favorite act has been Tom Rigney and Flambeau.  So far, we’ve seen them twice.  And I especially enjoyed it when they were joined by Bob Draga.  Which, I’m told, will happen again tonight. Opposing Church leadership at the next General Conference

My friend Michael De Groote calls my attention to a plan to oppose the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Church’s upcoming annual General Conference.   Calling themselves “a group of concerned members” of the Church, its organizers seek “to express feedback, opinions, dissent, or dissatisfaction about [Read More...]

Life is hard, and then you die

It feels so good to be back home in California!   http://www.jazzbashbythebay.com   Of course, I’ll have to work tonight and tomorrow to make up for this.  But I don’t teach on Fridays, so . . .   Posted from Monterey, California

“Nourishing the Aging Brain”

My first reaction to this article was disappointment and (some) anger.  Nourishing the Aging Brain has been the working title for my projected autobiography, which, of course, focuses largely on my daily experiences with Krispy Kreme doughnuts over the past eight or nine decades.   Still, I sometimes try to share practical, relevant information [Read More...]
