Everything Else (You Should Know About Your Camera) Crash Course
Update: If you are interested in being notified when the Everything Else Crash Course is ready, please leave your name and email in the comments below and we will contact you. Should be ready on or before Oct 29th 2018
At the time of this writing, I have produced about 50 training videos, the vast majority of which are specific to individual cameras. Each of these videos take many weeks to put together, and at the rate at which new cameras are being released, I simply cannot keep up anymore. Another issue we constantly had in the past was the amount of space available on a DVD (typically 4.5 hours), and with the A7iii Crash Course, we had to use 2 DVDs to cover all the content.
In order to continue to provide world class photography lessons to new shooters, I have decided to test a new model: Creating excellent camera operation videos, which will be published to youtube, and refocus on "Everything Else" camera owners will need to know about their systems. Most of the techniques are common once basic operations are understood. The Everything else course would cover the most important topics in shooting, including;
1. Photography Core
2. Composition Core
3. Lighting Core
4. Digital Files
5. Planning & Trouble Shooting
6. Real World Shooting, Including:
A. Portraits
B. Landscapes
C. Sports
D. Macro
7. Video Shooting (with Audio Lessons)
8. Advanced Shooting
This consolidates the most important interactions for new shooters, without needing to recreate a new video with every camera release.
The Cover features the Nikon Z7, but this is for the cover only, as the video will work for most modern cameras. :)

Halloween 2018

Obviously, many of you don't like horror movies, but for those of you who do and were wondering whether or not the new Halloween 2018 was worth seeing ill say this:
I grew up in the 80's and 90's and saw my fair share of horror movies, many of them good, many of them ridiculous. Some of them are just classics in terms of case studies (think Fright Night (The Original) was just amazing in that it was half comedy and still half terrifying). With a few exceptions, the last 2 decades of horror movies have been more or less completely awful, relying on the overuse of special effects, and not delving into the psychological aspects that make good horror movies truly scary.
The best horror movies to me are the ones that allow you to empathize with the fear of the protagonist, and then allow you join with them in facing that fear, come what may. Its just one's mans opinion.
With that in mind, I thought Halloween 2018 really pulled it off. If you are into scary movies, like me and enjoyed these kinds of films from the 80's and 90's, you'll want to see this in theaters.

Tonight's sunset was just crazy. Almost didn't make it down there because I had just worked out, but I grabbed my Fuji #xt3 and a couple grad filters, tripod, and raced down to the beach- & holy cow, it doesn't get much better than the display tonight. Just wow. There's a better screen saver in my story if you want to spice up your lock screen :) #sunset #maui #luckywelivehawaii #sun #fuji #fujixt3

Ergonomics Issues with the EOS-R
Jerry Wang has posted a video about his frustrations with the ergonomics of the EOSR. He may not be the most articulate youtuber, but I appreciate his effort because this is very organic, meaning its just a guy and his camera and he's telling us what he thinks. There are a number of more issues Im seeing with it now as well, but take a look at Jerry's video and ask yourself if this is something you want to use day in and out for shooting?

Bad Times At The El Royale

I really needed a movie break this weekend and decided to give it a shot. It was terrible. So many elements and ideas taken from other movies. What a waste of some tremendous screen talent. I would say dont bother at all.

Took a Wim Hof class today at @makenacrossfit - if you don't know who Wim Hof is, he's nicked named the Ice Man & holds many world records for endurance and extreme low temperature feats. He's refined a breathing technique that is just a trip, suffice it to say you take 30-35 deep breaths & then exhaling without breathing for as long as you a comfortable x3 rounds. (Don't do it driving or in water) Its definitely worth checking out as it's an incredible natural stress reducer & relaxer. I also use it to clear as much CO2 as possible before an intense workout. I use it all the time to destress. There's another part of this getting into ice baths after, which is also incredible. We used to do this at BYU after practice, but it's been a while and boy is it painful at first! It's an incredible mind over matter experience- great mental tool. Highly highly recommend researching Wim and the technique as a tool to improve your life. #wimhofmethod

As many of you know I have my own line of paracord camera straps. They can unravel to give you 60' of 550lb paracord rope, and I've done this twice in the disaster field (once was for a clothes line, the other was to tie cargo down). We got the new colors in recently including Desert Camo, Olive and Orange. But if you are reading this, here is a secret: I'm going to be giving away a few hundred of these (if you are ok to cover shipping and handling) on one of my upcoming podcasts. I'll likely not mention it anywhere else, so if you are interested be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel (link in profile) or "the maven nation" on your favorite podcast app. We also have black, red, blue and purple (Black and Blue can be ordered on Amazon) -- which color would you want? (Tell me in the comments, even new colors) #paracord #mavenstrap
