Another inspirational quote

“For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.” – Cynthia Occelli

Calming food

Yogurt is rich in GABA, a calming neurotransmitter. My favorite brand is Chobani. The Oikos brand tastes artificial. Be aware that each yogurt brand contains a different mix of probiotics. Some may agree with your body while others may not.

Natural antidepressant

Curcumin is the active chemical in turmeric. Curcumin supplements are considered safe and no adverse side effects have been reported at low doses. One study in ten adults found that taking 490 mg of curcumin daily for a week caused no side effects.

Curcumin possesses antidepressant properties. A 2017 review looked at all the research on using turmeric — specifically, curcumin — to help treat depression. It found curcumin may indeed be a safe and effective natural treatment option. It increases the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, but not norepinephrine, and has the potential to increase GABA.

Curcumin also possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can alleviate arthritis. But if you take it for this purpose, you must do so on an empty stomach.

Reader comment

One person who read Transcending Depression recently wrote, “Your book about depression is incredible. I only wish I had read it before my husband attempted suicide jumping off the roof of the home we were building. It is invaluable to everyone, particularly those who have depressed spouses or children and don't fully understand the feelings and consequences of not getting the appropriate help.”

If you have review comments on my book, negative or positive, please submit them to GoodReads.

Distribution

This week Ingram, the largest book distributor in the U.S., made Transcending Depression available to its vast network of bookstores. However, bookstores can buy the book directly from me at a discount of 50%, superior to Ingram's. I will also grant this discount to anyone ordering five or more copies.

The distribution process is new to me and I'm still learning how it works. If you have questions, e-mail me at IowaTiger73@Gmail.com or visit my website at www.larry-godwin.com.

Thank you.

Suicide Prevention Month

September is national Suicide Prevention Month. If you're feeling depressed, the books I reviewed might serve as resources.

In 2018, 1.4 million Americans attempted suicide and 132 died by suicide each day. It was the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.

Depression lies. It tells you you’ve always felt this way, and you always will. But you haven’t, and you won’t.
