The Autumn movie – UK DVD release date

Here's some news that I know a lot of you have been waiting for.

The AUTUMN movie will be released on DVD in the UK on 10th May 2010, and you can pre-order it now from all the usual places…

And before anyone asks: no, I don't know when the US DVD will be out, but I do know it won't be long before an announcement will be made (any day now, I hope).

Check back nearer the release date for some more AUTUMN related posts.

Portrait of a Zombie

Like many of you, I'm a sucker for a good zombie movie, and bloody hell, this looks like it's going to be a good zombie movie…

[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.]

I recently spoke to the director of the film, Bing Bailey, who told me about a couple of publicity campaigns he has running at the moment. When the film's Facebook fan page (click here) hits 10,000 fans, 10 randomly selected fans will receive limited edition posters signed b...

Infected Books competition winner

You may remember that I had a clear-out before Christmas and offered a stack of books for sale through www.infectedbooks.co.uk. The sale's pretty much over now with just a handful of foreign language editions and a few copies of Straight to You left.

Everyone who bought books from the sale automatically got entered into a draw for a few special prizes. I'm pleased to announce that the winner was Alan Hickey from Lancashire, UK. Congratulations, Alan! The following goodies will be on their way ...

Back from the SFX Weekender…

…and what a great event it was too. Congratulations to the SFX team for making it happen. Here's a photograph (with thanks to James Brown) of the Gollancz panel in full flow:

From right to left there you have: David Bradley (editor of SFX), Joe Abercrombie, Justina Robson, Richard Morgan, Chris Wooding, me and Tom Lloyd. And just out of shot on either side of us (you can see a foot from each one) were two huge dogs from Ghostbusters. Nice!

Selective Mutism

This is a rare personal post, not connected to my books.

If you're in the UK and you have 50 minutes to spare, can I ask you to consider watching 'My Child Won't Speak', a documentary which aired last night on BBC1. You can watch it on the BBC iPlayer here.

Selective Mutism (SM) is a strange, often bewildering condition which can have dramatic, long-term and very damaging effects on both the child who suffers from SM and their families. It's thought to affect around 6 in every 1000 children...

Horror's hidden treasures

I know I have a tendency to ramble on when I write, but I didn't realise how bad I sometimes get! When I was asked to contribute to the SFX Collection special mentioned in my previous post, I geeked out and got a bit overexcited and churned out far more words than were required.

Now, in an extremely cool and unexpected move, Ian Berriman from SFX has posted my ramblings in full on the SFX website, and you can read the piece here.

This in no way excuses you from buying the SFX special, by the...

SFX Collection: Horror

The team over at SFX magazine have just unveiled their latest creation. On sale in the UK from tomorrow is the SFX COLLECTION: HORROR – a massive horror collection full of cool features and free gifts. I have a couple of contributions in the 'Hidden Treasures' section – a load of horror directors, screenwriters and novelists were asked to reminisce about their favourite lost horror movies and books. I had a blast hunting through my boxes of dusty VHS tapes for the most obscure movies I could ...

Nominations for HATER

Sorry it's been so quiet around here this last week. I've been flat out (honest!) and you'll start seeing what I've been up to before long.

I've been made aware of a couple of awards that HATER has been nominated for. Firstly, RAGE, the French edition of the book, is up for the prestigious Masterton award, and you can read more about it here on the Milady blog.

Secondly, HATER has been nominated in the Best Zombie Book (Fiction) category of the Mail Order Zombie Dead Letter Awards (it's not...
