JK Recommends… June 5th! Recommendations for all the book lovers…

As most of you know, I don’t post a lot on social media, and rarely post much in conjunction with this weekly feature (which, by the way, is put together in large part by my awesome assistant Melissa). But we all know what’s going on in the world and in the US, and I hope that soon we will be living in a world with equal justice, resources, and opportunities for everybody, no matter what the color of their skin.
It is a very small thing, but with that in mind, Melissa and I wanted to bring to your attention these awesome new releases by authors of color. We hope that you support the authors and enjoy the books!

“Ninety-nine percent of the wives and moms in the country will identify with this heroine. I mean, like who hasn’t had to battle demons between car pools and play dates?” Jayne Ann Krentz, New York Times bestselling author
“Julie Kenner’s Demon Hunting Soccer Mom is one of the high water marks in urban fantasy. Kicking evil’s ass is just another thing on Kate Connor’s to-do list, but she’ll manage it with wit and wisdom, and then drive home in her minivan. This series may be more fun than we deserve!” —Christopher Golden, New York Times bestselling author of ARARAT and RED HANDS

“[S]hows you what would happen if Buffy got married and kept her past a secret. It’s a hoot.”—Charlaine Harris, New York Times bestselling author

Friend Spouses…

I don’t know about you guys, but I miss my family. Not the family that is currently crowded into my (thankfully reasonably large) house.
No, I’m talking about the extended family. Friends from high school and film school and law school. The writer and reader friends from over the last twenty years of this awesome career. (Taking a moment here to once again be amazed that I am blessed to make a living by sharing the people who live in my head.) All the awesome folks I’m not seeing in person this year because my travel scheduled has been reduced to nada, unless you count virtual hanging out, which (in case you hadn’t noticed) really isn’t the same.
Mostly, though, I miss my Friend Spouses.
What, you ask, are Friend Spouses? They are those friends who rise to the top to become the cream of the friendship bucket. The ones who know you as well (or better!) than your actual spouse or significant other.
ICYMI, I talk about Friend Spouses in my most recent column over at Frolic! Head on over and check it out!

Antonio is worth the wait…
She bit her lip and made the kind of whimpering sound that he wouldn’t have expected from a woman with the kind of hardened resume that Emma had.
The dichotomy of exceptional operative and needy woman made him want to sink inside her. To own her. It would be so easy. Just tug her onto his lap. Watch her eyes as she rode him.
Christ, he wanted that. But not yet, he told himself. Not just yet.
Instead, he wanted to make her melt. He wanted to take her to the edge.

XXOO JKHe wanted her to beg, and not only because he knew that in the end the anticipation would make the pleasure that much more intense for her, but because he wanted the satisfaction of knowing that he could. She’d put herself in his hands. He intended to make very, very clear that she’d made the absolute right decision.

Outlander, Time Travel, and Escapism…

Raise your hand if you’re watching or planning to watch the newest season of Outlander. {{Thrusts hand into the air}}
I haven’t started it yet—I’m weird about the whole book-to-movie/TV thing—and so even though I’ve read all of the books at least once (and Outlander itself at least five times), I’m compelled to re-read The Fiery Cross before diving into the new season. And in re-reading, I remembered how much I love time travel stories … and why Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber will always be my favorites, especially Dragonfly since it (spoiler alert) has so much of the time travel component. (Fortunately, I also love historical fiction, especially romance, so the entire Outlander series is a blast, even if no one is being flung through time, simply because of Claire, Roger, and Brianna’s perspective on the world.
Back around the turn of the millenium, I read a lot of Scottish time travel starting with one I still adore by Dee Davis—Everything In Its Time. We were critique partners at the time, so I had the pleasure of reading it even before it was published. That book is what turned me on to Outlander, and from there I pretty much read all time travel romances I could find. (And any time travel or time-altering fiction, actually.)
