Book Spotlight: Tutankhamen Speaks - by Cheryl Carpinello
Tutankhamen Speaks - by Cheryl Carpinello
Hundreds of years ago, scrolls that would alter the view of Ancient Egypt’s most famous pharaoh were lost. Rumors through the ages said the scrolls told of a time that the Pharaoh Tutankhamen spoke from beyond the grave. No one who heard of these scrolls believed that the scrolls had ever existed. Then following the Arab Spring in 2011, S. L. Wood, an Egyptian scholar, made an amazing discovery in the basement of the Cairo Museum. Read the story from the lost scrolls that recorded the Boy King’s words from beyond the grave.
Message From The Author: “Tutankhamen Speaks is the basis for my current Work-in-Progress Sons of the Sphinx. Ancient Egypt has always fascinated me, as it has thousands of others. When my husband and I visited Egypt in 2008, we traveled on our own. After arriving in Cairo, we explored the Giza Plateau. The Sphinx and the Pyramids took my breath away. Touching the blocks of Khufu's pyramid connected me to the builders of that pyramid over 3000 years ago. We traveled the length of Egypt twice by train. I could talk for hours of the magnificent monuments we explored: the temple at Abu Simbel, Luxor and Karnak temples, the Colossi of Memnon, the Valley of the Kings and of the Queens. I would return in a heartbeat to that magical land. I lost part of my soul to that ancient land. Since then, I've read all that I can, fiction and non-fiction, set in or dealing with ancient Egypt. When the King Tut exhibit was in Denver in 2010, I went three times! We also went to hear Dr. Zahi Hawass' lecture.
Some Of My Favorite Reads:
Beneath the Sands of Egypt by Archaeologist Donald P. Ryan
Non-fiction: Omm Sety's Egypt By Dorothy Eady
A memoir Discovering Tut-ankh-Amen's Tomb edited by Shirley Glubok
Non-fiction: The Lost Army of Cambyses by Paul Sussman; fictional series
Genre: Fiction, Historical Fiction

It is the legends and tales that call even the most reluctant of us into the world of books and adventure.
As a retired high school English teacher, I have a passion for working with kids. Reading and Writing are essential skills for everyone, but especially for kids as they grow into their adult lives. I conduct Medieval Writing Workshops for local elementary/middle schools and the Colorado Girl Scouts. Medieval Legends and Ancient Tales mirror everyone's quest for adventure, self, honor, friendship. I have joined with two other Tween authors to present the best of these adventure-filled books to Tween and YA readers. Join us at our new web site (which is still getting tweaked) to view all of our books. The Quest Books span centuries and take readers inside the marvelous civilizations of the Ancient and Medieval world Cheryl loves to travel, and so her other job is with a major airline. Her favorite trip was a two week visit to Egypt with her husband that included traveling by local train from one end of Egypt to the other. Some of her favorite books are: "The Hobbit," "The Lord of the Rings," Golding's "Lord of the Flies" and "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White was all written to offer hope to a world embroiled in another world war. "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens illustrates how unselfish true love enables people to offer the supreme sacrifice to preserve that love, while Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" shows how circumstances can cause people to do despicable acts. The one book that connects of all of these texts as well as a multitude of others is Joseph Campbell's "The Hero with a Thousand Faces." The journey of the hero, depicted by Campbell, is a universal theme that never dies out.
Cheryl’s Writings: Cheryl’s first book 'Guinevere: On The Eve Of Legend' introduces young readers to the timeless King Arthur Legend and Guinevere the girl as she struggles with growing up and fulfilling her destiny. I hope young readers develop an understanding of the girl Guinevere, how she is like them today. Everyone has to grow up; everyone has unpleasant choices to make; and regardless of when we are born or how old we are, we don't always get our way. And when that happens, we have to accept it and move on. Good lessons for any age. "King Arthur's Story" is a short excerpt cut from "Guinevere" in the final editing. Only available as an e-book, it gives readers a brief glimpse into Arthur's reasons for seeking marriage with Guinevere.
The Legend of King Arthur continues to transcend the Centuries and All Age Groups because:
(1) The Legend is packed with adventure. Tales of knights fighting knights, rescuing damsels in distress, and the quest for the Holy Grail are found in vivid detail throughout the unending array of stories.
(2) The Legend is about heroes, the Knights of the Round Table: Lancelot, Tristram, Percival, Galahad and the many others. Specifically it is about the main hero, King Arthur.
(3) The Legend is about magic and mystery. Merlyn, the most famous magician ever, lives backwards in time!
(4) The Legend is about women and love. The regal Guinevere; the mysterious half sisters of Arthur: Morgan le Fay, Morgause, and Elaine; the witch Nimue who tricks Merlyn into revealing his secrets and then encloses him for life in a cave. The one thing all these women have in common is that they are misunderstood. Writers can't even cast them into the same mold, especially the sisters.
(5) The Legend is about Hope. Arthur and his kingdom are essentially a utopia; a perfect world, at least in the beginning. There is a definite line between right and wrong. Chivalry rules the day. Arthur is the ruler who works not for himself, but for his people. In the time period that "The Once and Future King" was written (WWII), the Legend offered a safe haven for people's dreams. It continues to do that and that is why she loves it.

**************************Interview:
What, or who, inspired you to become a writer? I loved reading stories that sent me to another place and time (and I still do). I have always wanted to create my own stories. However, I started to write in earnest after my years as a high school English teacher. I want to inspire reluctant readers to become readers.
When did you begin writing with the intention of being published? Probably about 20 years ago.
Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why? Yes. As a high school teacher, I came into contact each year with students who did not like to read. I wanted to reach those students before high school in hopes of making readers out of them. I found the King Arthur Legend to be a great vehicle for this.
Do you come up with your title before or after you write the manuscript? A little of both. I knew from the beginning with “Guinevere” that I was going to give readers an insight into Guinevere before she married Arthur. So adding “On the Eve of Legend” just felt right from the start. With my next book I planned on titling it “Young Knights of the Round Table,” but didn't add “The King's Ransom” until nearly half the book was finished.
Why do you write in the genre(s) that you’ve chosen? I chose Children's Literature because elementary school is where students become readers. Also, I still love to read that genre!
What has been your most rewarding experience while in the writing process? The creative process I go through with each story is very rewarding. I loved being able to share my journey with my students.
What has been your most negative experience while in the writing process? I really haven't had a negative experience, but I did have to go back to “Young Knights” once I thought I was finished and totally rewrite one of the characters.
What has been your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? Learning, learning, and learning!
What has been your most negative experience in your publishing journey? It's just frustrating at times, like learning any new skill.
What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Keep positive and believe in yourself, your work, and your vision.
Who is your favorite author and why? This is a hard question. Probably J R R Tolkien. He was a fabulous storyteller who managed to include morality in his books that stayed with the readers.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with us? I do writing workshops for elementary schools and the Girl Scouts. In addition to reading, I believe that all kids and adults can learn to write. It is a matter of building confidence in the prospective writer and that is what we work on in the writing workshops. I guess that once a person is an educator, that teaching and encouraging nature stays with them.

Book Spotlight: Bones Of A Generous Woman: New And Selected Poems - by Phibby Venable
New and Selected Poems, by Phibby Venable` ... I would like to affirm that this is poetry that not only delights but, through its instinctive perception of, as well as insight into the human experience, is also inherently wise. Thus it is with great joy that I hail Phibby Venable as I do her BONES OF A GENEROUS WOMAN, a volume of poems so rich in imagination, poetic intent, and the very making of poems, their creation and, by extension, creation itself, that I do not hesitate to recommend it to every serious lover of poetry, as well as to other serious poets, as a book to read, reread, and keep nearby for that random, ravishing experience of catching life’s essence on the wing! ~Marya Berry

Interview:
What makes you proud to be a writer from Virginia? Abingdon, Virginia is the hometown of my parents & grandparents. The scenery itself is gorgeous & all four seasons are rich in their own detail. The people are strong & kind, easy to talk to, and respectful of humanity and nature. I love it here.
What or who inspired you to become a writer? As a very shy, quiet child, I had difficulty with verbalizing thoughts, and feelings. It was always much easier to write what I saw, felt, or wanted to say.My mother read me books, magazines, and newspapers, as far back as I can remember. She has always been a tremendous inspiration to me.
When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? One of my professors in college insisted that I submit a poem to a popular literary magazine. I was thrilled when the poem was accepted. That sort of encouragement made me realize that I might be able to reach others with my written words.
Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why? Besides my mother's reading, was the gift of freedom she gave her children. She was very undemanding & I was allowed to run freely in fields, climb trees, pick flowers, all the things children love to do. Being part of a large family also helped maintain relationships with all different sorts of personalities. Still, allowing my imagination to be nurtured by time with nature was my greatest strength in learning to write.
Do you come up with your title (s) before or after you write the manuscript (s)? Almost always before! Placing a title on a clean, white background seems to evoke a desire to fill it. It says I have work to do, a title to find a story for, and so inspires me to write.
Tell us why you write the genre (s) that you write? At first I wrote only poetry. The concise lines holding moments was important to me.Then, I felt the urge to branch out - particularly after my husband's death in 2008. I wanted an entire world to escape to, so I wrote, Women of the Round Table, a novel on the strengths of women struggling alone. Later, I had a book of short stories, and several books of poetry published.
Tell us your most rewarding experience while in the writing process? My most rewarding experience will always be that someone likes my work - or mention show something I wrote touched their lives. I also find a great solace in being able to be an adult, but still run with my imagination, and keep things in focus by capturing them on paper.
Tell us your most negative experience while in the writing process? My personal most negative experience is finding the time to write. There is often a feeling off ailing loved ones when I seclude myself to my work. My most negative experience on another level happened once when I told a friend an idea, he dismissed it as ridiculous, and then published a book identical to what we had discussed. I think this is very rare, however, and most of my experiences have been wonderful.
Tell us your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? My most rewarding experience was having a publisher in New York decide to publish my book. It was a limited edition, but the fact that he had faith in my work was extremely valuable to me. At the time I spent most of my writing time in the basement in a make shift study area. I was writing mostly for myself, using poetry as a way to deal with some hard events in my life. His offer was miraculous to me, and changed the way I viewed writing. He was also very helpful with suggestions on ways to improve my work.
Tell us your most negative experience in your publishing journey? Most of my experiences have been amazing, and lots of fun. There is, of course, the long wait, the tedious editing, but even that is exciting. And the final result - seeing a book finally "born" is wonderful.
What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Listen to all the criticism you receive, study it carefully, and then apply what jolts you as true, and dismiss what you know is not. And you will know. Things like being too maudlin, or over writing - if someone with a great deal more experience tells you that more is being said than shown. Well, listen! Criticism is a gift that can improve your work - not always, but often.
Who is your favorite author? I love Lee Smith, and my favorite book by her is, Fair & Tender Ladies. She has an astounding gift, and such a depth of knowledge of the human spirit and heart.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with us? I have a great many responsibilities at this period of my life. Care giving, animal rescue, mundane tasks, financial, etc...,and at the end of each day I am tired. But each morning I wake up, and do it all again, because the beauty of life is the ability to rise at dawn, and do all you can for each human, or animal, that needs you. Being needed is a gift. Being loved is a bestowed blessing. I would also like to wish all poets, and writers out there, the very best of luck, and love, and talent…a fulfillment of your dreams. In closing: I have three very unique and beautiful children, nine dogs varying in weight and attitude, from 5 lbs (Chihuahua) to 100 lbs. (hound dog), one dignified cat, and a house full of books, cookware, and soft blankets. Also, a yard of honeysuckle & morning glories, the most unkempt & plushiest in the community.

Book Spotlight: A Secret In Ash Brooke - by Dutch Rhudy
A small town detective agreed to mentor a local newspaper reporter who wished to enhance his sleuthing hobby. In the process of improving his observational skills, the reporter scrutinized various citizens torso and behavior. As his facial recognition abilities increased, he grew more aware of subtle similarities and differences.
The reporter soon became intrigued with an exceptional physical likeness between two young women. Each portray different cultures, and appear nothing alike in manner of dress, or in their separate lifestyles. The reporter, convinced they must be twins, maintained a constant vigil on his suspects.
He befriended one of these ladies to learn more about her. All attempts at justifying to himself she was a twin, proved futile. Subtle comments among her friends and family, confirmed she had only one sibling, an older brother.
These facts led our sleuth-hound reporter, to believe these two women were one in the same person.
Turning his attention from the proper lady, with her strict religious upbringing; to the one of questionable moral values. His observations only invited confusion and generated unanswered questions. Each time his suspicions exposed another clue, a positive clarification negated the probability.
Their timetables overlapped, and one person cannot possibly be in two places at the same time. Or can they?
Certain his assumptions are correct, our reporter continued his quest to learn the truth.
Log Line: How can she be in two places at the same time?
Tag Line: Never take anyone at face value.
Genre: Fiction, Mystery & Detective, Historical

About The Author: Dutch Rhudy; referred to by his peers as the master of Mystery, Mayhem and Madness; resides in a quaint, east Tennessee post war cottage. Any similarity to serenity, abruptly ends right here. For this mysterious Author of Mischief is about to enter his study. Or should I say, make an attempt at entry.
With a quick two-step, hop-scotching around and over the wildlife feeding pans strewn along the pathway, his feet manage to find a surviving clear landing spot at the study door. He reaches for the doorknob, gives it a sharp push, then stands in the doorway carefully eyeing a profusion of every trinket imaginable, gathered to study and perhaps use as a cue for a scene in a novel; this Pandemonium Plus setting leaves not a square inch of surface or floor area.
Born in the mid-1940s; Rhudy actively interacted with his older relatives from the pre-1900s era. Each had a story to tell about the good old days, their pioneer ancestors, the many antics they pulled as children; including more serious matters, about crime escalating over the years and how they confronted these issues. Each family gathering added more unique stories of mirth and suspense which have found their way into Rhudy's mental archives.
As a young man, Rhudy worked evenings as a disc-jockey and script writer. Once available for full-time work, he assisted a small advertising firm and worked as a ghost writer for a columnist. Through this association more work followed; with a request to ghost write several novels for teens and young adults, his career was under way and consumed over a decade before he took a break from writing.
Rhudy is getting on up in years; the nest now deserted, peace and quiet has returned to the Rhudy household. Retirement affords him the time to release under the Roaring Falls series, many colorful stories spanning over 150 years. Included within each story are glimpses into the history of his hometown, its activities and bring to life the many crimes from past to present.
Often called "That Mysterious Mystery Solving Mayor of Roaring Falls," Rhudy claims he solves no crimes; he allows the unraveling of each mystery be conducted by the world-renowned Rumbleigh Investigations. There is much more about Roaring Falls than appears on the surface; if there is a secret to discover; a scandal, a sinister character, a hidden romance, or clue for solving a crime; some character will invariably let it slip out.

Interview:
What makes you proud to be a writer from Tennessee? Pleasantly surprised is how I prefer to describe living in The Tennessee Valley. Born and raised in St. Louis County, Missouri; a Yankee moving south to ‘The Spunky Little City’ of Knoxville, Tennessee was a major cultural change for me.Warmly welcomed in my new spouses home town; I soon learned Knoxville was occupied alternately by both Confederate and Union armies during the Civil War. As the most populous metropolitan area in the Southern Appalachians, we were never at a loss for things to do.Meeting the many famous authors who live here, and their generous offer of expert assistance, has made me feel at home. We often invite fellow writers to our quaint little home, nestled on Rodgers Ridge in the Smoky Mountain foothills. What or who inspired you to become a writer? I love to write, and have since before I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I still recall resting the log sized pencil, supplied by the school, on my shoulder. The nightmares from trying to form letters around the chunks of wood embedded in the crude paper have never subsided. While attending high school, one of my early works, a class assignment, was selected for publication. After graduation I did research and draft writing for a journalist, which led to a transcription job for a publisher. Soon I was ghost writing rough draft novels for them.Personal circumstances drew me away from writing for nearly a decade. I assisted the development and writing of a history book of my home town. After moving south I was invited to join a publishers writing team.Writing in a personal journal, and researching our family genealogy, gave me an opportunity to learn my ancestors’ stories. These family histories have provided my most recent source of inspiration for my current work in progress, the Roaring Falls series.
When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? Within my first year of returning to work as a writer, the itch to tell my story my way became overwhelming. I read every book I could get my hands on that fit my intended genre. Then realized the long learning curve to achieve my goal as an Indie would be a hard one.My various duties at work taught me each phase of building a series, so I embarked on world building first. It took over three years to establish a solid base to work from. I had the groundwork laid, and developed the overarching outline. Then came the scene and character sketches, the massive genealogy tables to keep track of every family, pet, livestock and structure in my story. This was followed by the individual outlines, plot lines and a lot of tweaking to make certain the chronology was accurate. After writing an overarching reference to follow, and finishing the rough draft for the first few novels in the series. Came all the critique group meetings, and hiring of editors. I still had a long way to go, and while waiting on edits, I pulled some of my old works out to study. They were horrible, so I rewrote each of them, mainly to have something to share with our critique group. A little bit of polish and some encouragement from the group, I cringed at the thought, but decided to take their advice and publish.Urged to join the NaNoWriMo Challenge, I wrote my next novel with full intent to publish. Not right away, but after it was edited and polished. This gave me the confidence I needed to take on the monumental task of developing and writing the multi-novel Roaring Falls series. I’ve come a long way in the past few years and have no fear of publishing my works.
Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why? The town in which I was raised did not exist when my ancestors first settled in the remote area. My great-grandfather founded a protective association, and my grandfather, along with other businessmen, a law and order society. From this latter group, the town was incorporated, and grandfather was the Trustee. The town grew to become a 4th class city, with my grandfather as the first and longtime mayor. More importantly, I came from a large family who maintained accurate records. One of the eldest children of my baby boomer generation, many of my ancestors were still alive and loved to tell stories of when they grew up. I absorbed their stories, and observed the town grow from an empty field to a major metropolitan city. This lifetime of history, lore and resources has formed the very basis of my works. A wealth of information to draw from, and write about. I’ve stepped into my ancestors shoes through diaries, genealogical work, and research, to the point I feel I have actually lived their lives.
Do you come up with your title (s) before or after you write the manuscript (s)? The title my stories are marketed under are often written last. However, I assign a working title to the storyline concept long before the actual writing begins. I create a main folder with a title, and place my research, scene and character sketches, etc. in sub-folders.Before I develop a storyline, many scene sketches, not associated with any story yet, are also filed with a name for the scene. While writing a story, I may need an occupation for a character, which in turn leads me to a scene sketch I can glean information from.
How do you develop your characters? For a character to be believable, possess human characteristics and mannerisms, you must get to know your character intimately. The best way I know to do this is to forget about the story you are writing for the time being, and thoroughly interview your character.Let the character tell you everything about their life from cradle to grave. Fill out your character sketch form and add this interview. For a visual image of this character, dig through you old photo albums or glean an image from the internet as an aid.If you know your characters role in the story, let this character tell the story from their point of view and see where it takes you. My characters often come up with things that fit them perfectly, things I never would have never thought of on my own.You never know what is lurking in the depths of your own mind, until you step into the shoes of someone else and become that person. Now that you know their side of the story, return to your version and bring in the human equation imparted by this character.
Tell us why you write the genre (s) that you write? I have a story to tell, and want to relate it to the person I’m telling it to in the most meaningful and best way possible. I don’t think about genre until I’m trying to classify the finished work. Most of my works fall under Historical Fiction, even when they contain nothing about history.Trying to assign a genre to a work can and often is a nightmare. My latest novel is Cozy Mystery, which also fits Historical Fiction. Normally Mystery is linked with Crime on bookshelves. What do you do with a book, set in the past, is a mystery, but no crime to solve?A reader expecting something about history will give you a bad review, because it is not about history. Ditto with those readers who feel a mystery must revolve around crime. Trying to find an appropriate genre that does not exist or fit with your works, is asking for trouble. To answer the question of what genre I write, I’ll come up with a new one Cozy Historical Mystery with no violence, crime, vulgarity or sex. So they stick my books under genre Children’s Fiction. You can’t win when it comes to genre.
Tell us your most rewarding experience while in the writing process? The most rewarding experience is that aha moment when everything suddenly comes together in the manner originally intended. The twenty rewrites of the last few paragraphs, the worn out delete key, and the warm fuzzy feeling you get when it turns out perfect.
Tell us your most negative experience while in the writing process? When the perfect line you labored over for weeks, the one that gave you the warm fuzzy, comes back from the editor with a red line through it, marked ‘dele.’ Losing a thought before you have time to write it down frustrates me to no end.
Tell us your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? My biggest reward came after waiting on pins and needles to see if the publisher botched my nearly impossible to duplicate cover. No printer I had access to, other than using a true photographic duplication process, could achieve what I desired. The publishing company that handled my book and cover printing was amazing. Everything about the novel came out perfect, the cover was perfectly registered, and came out exactly as I had it envisioned. Thank you CreateSpace! What I was trying to duplicate was how a greeting card, with a printed frosted cover, placed over the image on the card appears to the eye. It adds depth to the image, and the cover printing seems to jump off the page. I got both illusions, and the feel of the cover is awesome.
Tell us your most negative experience in your publishing journey? The most negative experiences I’ve encountered have to do with various e-book formats. One conversion process does not work to produce the files for different e-readers. Some of the claims made by conversion distributors is not accurate at all.A novel formatted for print is nothing at all like an e-book format. Conversion programs cannot possible handle the formatting tags used for a print book. The same is true for an e-book format being touted as printable. The copyright notice for a print book omits clauses necessary in e-books, and it looks stupid to have e-book clauses in a print book. Not to mention a book printed from an e-book formatted file is about as horrible as it can get.A properly formatted e-book for a particular device, may appear perfect on one model of that companies devices, and horrible on another model using the exact same file. I suggest going straight to the distributor for the device, for their version, and only use distributors for e-pubs. Format your work for each conversion system, or for printing, for best results.
What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Keep writing no matter what. Write one story, edit, rewrite, edit again and then publish. Don’t keep trying to tweak your work, this work won’t get any better. Move on to the next work, you learn and improve with continual practice. Keep the beat going.Think of a music score. You hit a sour note, so what, you can’t go back, it’s water over the dam, or damage to someone’s ears, as the case may be. But the beat goes on, and timing in music is everything. If you go back to replay that sour note, the whole orchestra is way ahead of you, and the right note at the wrong time is as bad as the sour note. Ray Bradbury said it best. You can’t write fifty bad stories in a row. One of them will soar with the eagles. Many authors are not recognized until they hit their third, fifth, or seventh novel. Their early works may have been garbage, but only up until the time they hit a winner. Then all of their works are suddenly in demand, and critics enjoy bashing early works. Smile and go to the bank!
Who is your favorite author? This may sound like an odd response to who is my favorite author, but it is directly related to what I have done for over thirty years. My favorite author is: The Stratemeyer Syndicate, with Raymond Douglas Bradbury my individual favorite author. To explain further, Franklin W. Dixon does not exist as a person using a pen name. Franklin W. Dixon is a pen name, but not of an individual. The name represents a group of writers all working together in a team or in many cases individually. All under the same pen name.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with us? Because the main objective of my current works, as told in the Roaring Falls Series, is based primarily on true stories from my home town and my personal life.To protect the families, including my own, who’s lives, occupations, and history are portrayed in my novels. Their names have been changed, resemblances altered, the time period shifted, and the location moved to a fictitious state and city.I have also chosen the pen name Dutch Rhudy as the author of this series. Several pen names were chosen before I finally settled on the simplest of all options. The nicknames of my mother (Dutch), and mother-in-law (Rhudy), passed all naming convention clearance tests.

Featured Selection: A Secret In Ash Brooke - by Dutch Rhudy

New Release-Discovery - by Ginger Simpson
Seven stories in one novel; each one with its own plot and lead character: a stewardess who discovers her judgment may be a little flawed, an older divorcee who finds something far more interesting than sandals at a shoe clearance, a bride-to-be thinking she has a valid reason to call off her wedding, a pudgy ex-wife with a fear that a medical apparatus will make her look like Jacques Cousteau, a newcomer to Florida expecting fair weather and experiencing her first hurricane, but not alone or scared, a daughter in mourning, pursuing the meaning of three tarnished bars held together by a black ribbon, and a doctor who discovers something totally unrelated to medicine that heals a heart problem.
“Throughout these stories, facets of each person’s character are revealed, layer by layer, often with a punch of the Ginger Simpson sense of humor. Delicious! I can think of no better way to spend an evening or lazy afternoon than wrapped in the comfort of her words.” ~ H. Haven

About Author Ginger Simpson:
The “working” Ginger Simpson retired from the University of California as an advocate for students. While there, her involvement in editing and creating publications/forms led her to believe she could write a novel similar to those historical romances she loves so well. And guess what! Ginger’s debut novel was published by small press in 2003. Since then, she has written many more novels and novellas, all but one contracted for publication. Writing is in her blood.
Some of her works has been nominated for awards and recognized as yearly best reads on well-known romance sites. The reviews she has received have been extremely favorable, until trolls starting leaving obvious non-read reviews to hurt those they believe are credible authors. Her debut book received four stars from the Romantic Times Magazine, back when they weren’t known for their openness to e-books. That set the tone for her continued creative juices.
She strives to promote herself in as many ways possible, she maintains membership on Linkedin, Goodreads, Twitter, Triberr and Facebook. She recently added Pinterest to the lot because it garners lots of attention. Despite rumors that men don’t pay attention to Pinterest, her John Wayne board has almost a thousand followers with 99% of those being male. Besides her own website and blog, she strives to find guest slots to help keep her name in the reader’s memory. It’s her belief that promotion is never-ending and the essential key to success. She recently said “if I have to tweet, I will, although I don’t quite understand the entire process”.
Born and raised in California, Ginger never planned to leave, but at an early age, her grandson (Spencer) was diagnosed with developmental delays, and she moved to Tennessee. She used to be his caregiver, but since his Mom switched jobs, she doesn’t see him nearly as much. Some days, she feel like part of herself is missing, but she has to admit that listening to Spongebob, Thomas the Train, and Ninjago music isn’t as inspiring as the smooth jazz she generally enjoys. She takes great delight in knowing she is making a difference in Spencer’s life. Ginger’s husband, Kelly, is a wonderful supporter and her biggest fan. He brags that he is the inspiration behind the romantic scenes in her books. She refuses to confirm or deny his claim.
Ginger truly recognized a dream with the publication of her first book, but her real hope is to see her work more readily available to the general public. With the sudden growth of e-books, she feels encouraged. Now a true senior citizen, she reminds herself that a person is never too old to achieve their goals. Grandma Moses is her heroine.
