Looking for Some of the Best Free Kindle Fantasy Books?

Have you tried joining those email blast services that send you book recommendations? I've done a few and gotten some great reads from them, but then the daily emails get tiresome. I don't read that fast and can only browse the occasional email because I get a lot of email because I manage two businesses. That means I'm not seeing the majority of the free and discounted ebook alerts.

You've probably had a similar experience. Since it's highly unlikely that you will actually see any of my ads through such services, I'm posting here the free fantasy books for Kindle I have available.

First up is the free series starter Rys Rising: Book I. You'll get a 175,000 words of epic adventure in a fantasy world where humans live under the dominion of magical races. Rys Rising recently went all the way up to #3 in the sword and sorcery category at Amazon on November 4th. As the reviews prove, this is not one for fantasy fans to miss.

About this free Kindle book:

A young warrior ruined and near death is saved by Onja a mysterious rys female. Forsaking all that he was, he will take the name Amar and serve his new magical mistress. A lord among outlaws he will become, feared by kings and called the dro-shalum or curse demon by the common folk.

Amazon just recently started price matching to free on this title that is a free ebook at other retailers.

It's free for Kindle in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.

Kindle US
Kindle UK
Kindle Canada

Another free series starter at Kindle is Union of Renegades: The Rys Chronicles Book I. This is the first novel I published when I started publishing fiction in 2006. It has drawn thousands of people into the world of The Rys Chronicles. The novels of The Rys Chronicles remain my best sellers and many people have given them 5 stars at various retailers.

ALSO NOTE: Union of Renegades has been in the top 50 epic fantasy and fantasy romance at Kobo (a popular ebook retailer in Canada) for months.

About this free fantasy Kindle book:

The epic begins as Dreibrand Veta and the conquering Horde of the Atrophane Empire reach a mythic Wilderness that beckons with a magical call to glory. But Onja, Queen of the rys, a race far more powerful than the greatest human state, guards this land. She has the power to imprison souls and her genocidal rage is legendary. Everything is at risk for her desperate enemies, the union of renegades.

Free at:

Kindle US
Kindle UK
Kindle Canada
Kindle Australia
Kindle France

What about my new series Werewolves in the Renaissance? Can people start reading it for free on Kindle?

Werelord Thal the first book of the Werewolves in the Renaissance series is only $0.99 in Kindle stores. I don't have the ability to price anything for free on Kindle. It only happens when Amazon price matches other retailers. So, you can ask Amazon to price match Werelord Thal or get a copy of the Kindle format for free at Brave Luck Books or Smashwords. Choose the .mobi file.

About Werelord Thal:

Thal embodies the ancient magic of the pagan past. He challenges a world conquered by a spiritual system that denies the flesh and forgets the Earth.

Although wanted for Devil worship and shape shifting, he still boldly walks the streets of 16th century Prague. Jesuits hunt him. Mercenaries fear him. Musicians sing his praise, and women are captivated by his alpha swagger.

A voice penetrated Irewen's deep sleep.
Her father said only one word, her name, but he was so desperate in his calling that she was immediately pulled from her slumber. She woke, searching in vain for the man she knew wouldn’t be there, couldn’t be there. Sorrow filled her heart anew when he didn’t answer her silent plea. But amidst the all too familiar grief, there flowered a warm bubble of joy.
She had heard his voice, and she had not forgotten.
Fun Fact about Silevethiel (The Vaelinel Trilogy #1):
A few people have commented that they don't understand why Silevethiel is the title of the book and focus of the cover when she isn't the main character. It's true, she isn't, but that makes her no less important. She's mysterious. We don't actually meet her until about half-way through the book, but she's an essential figure in the lives of the Elves as well as the main character. So much depends on her. Interview:   When did you start writing?I began writing in 2003 as something fun to do in my spare time. The manuscript would go untouched for months, and there were many times where I'd have to re-read the entire thing because I forgot what I'd written. I didn't become serious with my writing until the summer of 2011. My mom died in the spring, and I wanted to finish The Lost Heir in her memory. Since then I've become addicted to writing and it's all I do!
What inspires your writing? This may sound rather cliche, but my writing is inspired by everything! What I love about Fantasy is that even though it's entirely make-believe, it's real. You may think I'm completely nuts, but I'm not, I promise! Part of what draws people into Fantasy and what makes it so relatable is that it is so steeped in reality. There's real emotions, real issues, real struggles, real dilemmas. Fantasy is unique in that I can let my imagination and creativity take me anywhere. I have no limitations other than the confines of the world I create. But reality has a large impact on my writing, and because of that I find inspiration everywhere. I've touched topics such as rape, abortion, religion, equality, defying stereotypes, female empowerment, and epidemics...to name a few. And my inspiration will only continue to grow.
What is the best part about being a writer? The best part of being a writer is touching other people with something I created. Inspiring others and making them think or consider things they might not have is such a wonderful feeling. Taking readers to other worlds and letting them feel like they're with the characters and experiencing the events themselves is truly a wondrous ability.
Is there something special or unique about you or your book you'd like to tell us about?I'm extremely passionate about the empowerment of women, and it's something I include in some form or another in all my writing. In The Lost Heir, the main warrior sworn to protect Darrak is a female. But Andillrian isn't the typical female warrior commonly seen in Fantasy. She's shines because of her abilities, not because she's wearing 'armour' that amounts to a string bikini and shows off her large breasts, tiny waist, and round butt. She doesn't have to disguise herself as a man in order to fight. She's respected and revered because of who she is and the skills she brings to the table.

Werewolves in the Renaissance Series Taking Shape

Yesterday I received my first paperback copies of Journey of the Hunted: Werewolves in the Renaissance 2. It represents the next step in my most recent fantasy series project. What began last November with the publication of Werelord Thal: A Renaissance Werewolf Tale is now a series.

I took a picture of both books today. Although I make the majority of my money from ebooks of my novels, the paperbacks provide me with tangible proof of my creative efforts. And seeing my two historical fantasies together excited me.

Werewolves in the Renaissance is my third fantasy series project. I've been writing fantasy since 1997 and steadily adding to my portfolio ever since. My previous projects were the Rys Rising series and The Rys Chronicles. Together they total eight novels.

Journey of the Hunted is my tenth novel. And it is available in paperback at Amazon and Createspace for $12.99.

I'll be exhibiting it along with my other fantasy books at the upcoming Grand Rapids Comic Con.

For ebook readers, the digital version of the novel is on special all month for $0.99 at:

Brave Luck Books
Smashwords
iBooks
Kindle US
Kindle UK
Kindle Canada
Google Play
Nook US
Nook UK
Kobo
About the novel:

The folklore beliefs of the 16th century Renaissance come wildly to life in the werewolf hero Thal. Created by the infamous sorcerer Sarputeen, Thal now battles the dark servants of Tekax, wizard to the Turks and nemesis of Sarputeen. While escaping the Holy Roman Empire, Thal discovers more about his werewolf powers as he struggles to reach a refuge shrouded in mystery.

Book Blogger Fair Day 3 with Fantasy Author Lia Davis

Today is the third day of the Blogger Book Fair for Speculative Fiction. It's a big event showcasing dozens of authors. From November 10th to 14th, visitors to the participating blogs will find oodles of free and 99-cent ebooks and be able to enter drawings for Amazon gift cards ($50, $30 and $20).

Davis is also offering a bonus giveaway of a $10 Starbucks gift card.

War's Passion (Sons of War #1)Fantasy | Adult
After losing her parents in a brutal attack from a monster straight out of her nightmares, Gwendolyn Preston tries to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Along with her best friend, she moves to a small fishing village on the coast of Maine to find a new life away from the nightmares that haunt her. Just when she believes her life could go back to normal, the deliciously dark and handsome Markus Sullivan disrupts her hopes to grieve in peace.
Markus drew the short straw when it came to being the liaison between his father, Ares--God of War--and his brothers. When he discovers that the earth bound demi-gods, known as the descendants, have banded together to start another rebellion against the gods, it becomes his number one priority to stop them.
That is until he meets Gwen, the granddaughter of Aphrodite, and the next target of the descendants. Together, their path is rife with passion and danger. It might take more than the son of War to win this battle...Gwen herself.
Buy Links:Amazon | Other Formats
War’s Passion ExcerptMarkus closed his eyes as he stroked his fingers over the keys of the baby grand piano in the great room. The music flowed and filled the air around him, and twined in his soul. He loved the peace it offered. Each note calmed his inner beast in a way nothing else did.
A shift of energy made him opened his eyes. Releasing a low annoyed groan, he stared into Aphrodite’s sky blue gaze. She wore a white pants suit and her blond hair hung in thick waves around her shoulders. He stopped playing and slammed the cover over the keys.
The goddess straightened from where she leaned over the side of the piano and folded her arms. “Why did you stop? You know I love to hear you play.”
Standing, he gave her his back and peered out the French doors leading to the gardens in the backyard. “What do you want, Aphrodite?”
Glancing over his shoulder, he saw her roll her eyes, sit down on the bench, and cross her legs. With a little sigh, she opened the cover over the keys and smiled at him. “Nothing,” she sing-songed. “I’d thought I would stop by and visit with one of my favorite dragons.”
Markus snorted—the goddess never just stopped by. She always had a purpose for her visits. It usually meant he would have to be involved in something dangerous, annoying, or odd. “Have you seen War?”
One slender shoulder raised in a shrug and she pressed the C key. “No. I think he’s avoiding me.”
“That makes two of us.” Markus studied her for several moments. She seemed preoccupied. Usually she hovered close to him or his brothers when she wanted something and annoyed them in a motherly way in her effort to bend them to her will. Yet, tonight she just ran a finger back and forth over the keys, not making a sound. “What’s wrong?”
Not looking at him, she sighed. “Gwendolyn needs your help.”
Dread hit him in the gut, then crept its way up his spine. If Aphrodite was asking him for help, it couldn’t be good. Usually the gods didn’t give three shits about the demi-gods. “Why me?”
A sad smile formed on her face as she held his gaze. “Because I can’t get involved any more than I already am. Her life is in danger. Besides, she’s the last of my mortal children.”
Blowing out a breath, he ran a hand through his hair. “I don’t know what I can do.” That was a lie. No matter how much he told himself that, he knew what he had to do. Garrick couldn’t be allowed to unlock any more descendants’ powers. The balance of the worlds was shifting.Aphrodite stood and narrowed her gaze. “Yes, you do. Protect her. Keep Garrick from capturing her.” Then she dematerialized and ended the argument. Playing bodyguard—especially to the goddess of love’s granddaughter—was the last thing he wanted.

Rebirth of the Seer (The Vampire Flynn #2)Supernatural/Paranormal | Adult
Flynn’s quest for redemption continues in the second installment of The Vampire Flynn.

Condemned by the Supernatural Order and sentenced by their High Council to die, he and his watcher Monica must avoid capture while deciphering a riddle left by Lydia Davies. The mission takes them from Philadelphia to the Windy City of Chicago, with a master seer named Julian nipping at their heels. There, they are joined by wary allies and a cunning vampire who is bent upon exposing the full hypocrisy of the Order.

The hunter becomes the hunted. The villain transforms into a champion. But even as Peter begins to emerge from the crimson shroud of his alter ego as a newly-gifted seer, he finds himself placed on a game board he would have sooner avoided. A destiny trails him, but so does the realization that he has become a country without affiliation, about to be presented with an offer too enticing for him to simply refuse. And while the Order’s band of gifted humans might be misguided, are they beyond redemption themselves?

What remains to be seen is who might be right – the ones who remember the murderous assassin, or the few who believe in the heart of a hero nobody asked for.

As the Crow Flies Excerpt
I had scarcely stepped out into the street with my handsome new acquisition when I was abruptly and rudely accosted. Two hulking pieces of manhood caught me by either arm, and I nearly lost both my hat and the burlap sack of supplies I carried. Lifting me right off my feet didn’t trouble either of them, and while they whisked me off down the street, I took a moment to recover my breath, my composure—more or less—and to study their identities. “Do I know the two of you?” I inquired politely while they plowed through puddles I would have chosen to go around. The first splash caught me rather by surprise, but I had the forethought to lift my feet for the second. No sense getting wetter when there was an alternative.

“Raza wants to have a chat with you,” the bruiser on my right informed me.

“Jolly for him. Would you be so good as to put me down? I think I remember how to walk.”

“We’ll help.”

“You’re too kind. Really.” I looked from one to the other, but they showed no sign of responding to gentle persuasion and we were making good speed down the street in a direction I had no desire to go. So I held on tight to my belongings and stuck my foot between the legs of the less chatty fellow on the left. He went down in a heap, and I went with him, rolling half onto him. The other man swore and scrambled, trying not to fall, too. I helped him out as best I could by swinging my sack at his head. There were a pair of grappling hooks in there, a climbing rope, metal cleats, and other sorts of paraphernalia a thief might find handy on the job. It knocked him backside over teakettle, which was rather satisfying and alarming at the same time.

Both my delight and my worry at the damage a hook might have caused were arrested by an arm around my throat.

Author Bio:

Robin Lythgoe was born in Maryland, but spent several years in Oregon and did a short stint in upstate New York before moving to Utah. She married an artist, and together they have four wonderful children. Reading and writing have always been a part of her life, and she is particularly drawn to fantasy. When she was growing up her mother often led expeditions to the library, from which the entire party invariably returned laden with a stack of books guaranteed to make the arms longer. Robin read everything voraciously, and when she finished her stack, she'd start on her mother's... and then her sisters'. Today she writes tales about wizards and magic, fantastical places and extraordinary journeys.

Her novel, "As the Crow Flies," was selected as a Kindle Book Review, 2014 Kindle Book Awards Semifinalist.

Interview
When did you start writing?
When I was a child—but I didn't get serious about it until my second child was born. I suffered Bookus Interruptus until I kicked that sorry disease to the curb.

What inspires your writing?
What doesn't? Music—yes, most especially—and chocolate, movies, books, the news, pictures, conversations... I love that inspiration is all around me, and all I have to do is open my eyes, pick something, and turn it over in my head until my imagination grabs it and runs like crazy.

What is the best part about being a writer?
Exercising my imagination and creativity. What a blast!

Is there something special or unique about you or your book you'd like to tell us about?
I am evidently fluid in the language of Snark. And so is Crow, the main character of my book!

But more than men stalk him. Servants of Tekax, sorcerer to the Turks, have been unleashed upon his trail.
The werewolf Rotfeng covets the enchanted fur that lets Thal change form at will, regardless of the phase of the moon.
Worse yet comes Janfelter, an undying fext created in the dark fortress of Tekax.
These heartless killers are tasked with stopping Thal from reaching his father Sarputeen, the arch nemesis of Tekax. Thal’s only refuge awaits him in what is left of the Kingdom of Hungary after a Turkish conquest. In the remote castle Vlkbohveza the ancient sorcerer Sarputeen lives untouched despite widespread persecution of magic users and pagans.
Although Thal longs to be with his own kind, he worries about the reunion with his father. It was Sarputeen’s magic that made Thal a werelord, a master of wolves. But what shall the sorcerer require of his creation now that Tekax aims to settle an old score?

Thank you to all of my readers who have brought me this far. My life has been in disarray lately as my husband launched a new business in our town. I've been putting a lot of time and energy into the Battle Creek Gift Shop, but I'll be writing again soon. I'm just not happy if I'm not creating stories.

New Werewolf Book Coming to Google Play

I've been so excited about the sudden jump up the Kindle charts for Rys Rising that I haven't mentioned that Journey of the Hunted: Werewolves in the Renaissance 2 is available worldwide on Google Play.

Journey of the Hunted is releasing this Saturday November 8, and you can preorder it for $0.99 at Google Play, Kindle, iBooks, Nook, and Kobo.

Although Journey of the Hunted is the second book in the Werewolves in the Renaissance series, you can enjoy it on its own if you have not read Werelord Thal: A Renaissance Werewolf Tale. I'm designing each book in this series as a tale of its own. They will all link together of course, but readers can join the adventures of Thal, a werewolf in the 16th century Holy Roman Empire, at any point in his emerging saga.

About Journey of the Hunted:

Facing uncertain destinies, Thal and Altea must escape Bohemia. The Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand himself has signed the warrant for Thal’s capture on charges of shape shifting and the killing of Jesuits.
A hefty reward attracts countless bounty hunters into the heart of this 16th century Christian empire. Thal emerges from hiding with his young wife Altea who is barely recovered from torture at the hands of witch hunters. With his werewolf powers, he battles the bounty hunters and begins a daring journey across the Holy Roman Empire.

Grab this historical fantasy now and see how I bring weave real magic into the turbulent era of Renaissance Europe.
