Of course this was a crazy situation

Picture The other day an expecting couple in their 9th week of pregnancy approached me for an online nutrition consultation. They were in extreme distress.

The expecting mom was ravenously hungry almost all the time.

But as soon as she took a few bites of food she started feeling extremely queasy and threw up.

Of course this was a crazy situation.

And to combat this she was trying to keep herself on fluids.

But that wasn’t working.

As soon as she drank something – she would throw up.

So we worked on a strategy to keep the nausea down.

Avoid DRINKING – eat.

Eat something crunchy which requires you to munch on it a good bit before you swallow.

And that worked like magic for them.

Children and their behaviour are NOT the cause of Parenting Despair

Picture Children and their behaviour are NOT the cause of Parenting Despair. Not understanding that behaviour and not knowing what to do about it is. That is why parenting classes are important

Do you feel small sometimes? Inadequate? Incapable?

Picture Do you feel small sometimes? Inadequate? Incapable?
I do.
And when that happens – I turn to books. I start reading.
In fact I read a lot – to ensure that I don’t feel small and powerless.
Because knowledge is power.
When you know how things work and how you can make them work – you feel powerful.
Children (toddlers and preschoolers) ARE SMALL and they ARE POWERLESS and that is one of the reasons they misbehave and throw tantrums – just to feel bigger and more powerful.
But throwing tantrums does not have to be the only way for them to feel powerful.
If we teach them how to read really early – we can help them to feel powerful.

"Mindful Parenting" - It sounds beautiful doesn't it?

Picture"Mindful Parenting"

It sounds beautiful doesn't it?

But I have seen a lot of parents struggle to put it into practice.

Because it is too vast and there are too many things that can be done... And as a result nothing gets done.

So yesterday on VICHARSTHAL by  Anupama Dalmia.... As we spoke on Mindful Parenting.... I shared....

My 3M formula to succeed with Mindful Parenting.

Myself
Mind
Moment

And below is the feedback I received on the session from a parent who watched the session LIVE.

I am sharing the link to the YouTube video below where you can learn all about these 3 Ms and how to implement them.

Children do things to feel CHALLENGED

Picture Children do things to feel CHALLENGED

If you don't like the challenge your child is engaged in

REDIRECT them to a different challenge

Every year - in the first week of January

Picture Every year - in the first week of January - I receive a call from the Carmel Academy Bangalore.

As soon as the year begins we work on dates for Parenting workshops at their school.

I love that call and over the years it has become a beginning of the year ritual for me

We did the same in Jan 2020 -

The year is not going according to plan - but this amazing school has stuck to it's plan of helping parents with their parenting journey.

I was delighted to conduct this online workshop for their parents.

Yes all of us need to learn how to parent in the new normal. And I was delighted to help parents with suggestions about what they can do to make this easier for themselves and their children.

Thank you Father for the opportunity.

In recent times “HOW to parent” has become so important

Picture In recent times “HOW to parent” has become so important, that we have forgotten “WHY we are parenting.”

What do we really want for our children?

If the answer is success and happiness – What is success? And what really brings us happiness?

With every generation the definition of success and happiness changes.

Will our children really consider topping the entrance exams as success?

Will winning with blinkers on, truly make them happy?

If we look at the millennial way of living – that values experiences more than things , it seems unlikely.

So why not stop looking for the shore and start enjoying the swim?

Life is in the journey and not in the destination.

If we start enjoying every moment instead of living for a time when we have “finished”parenting and can step back and admire our creation - Will it make parenting easier?

I think it will. What about you?

My child is very "sensitive"

Picture My child is very "sensitive".
A lot of parents - especially the parents of boys -say this to me in a very apologetic voice.

Being sensitive is not a bad thing.
Crying is not a bad thing.

Being insensitive is terrible.
And not being able to express your emotions can be devastating.

Every decision must be made with the head - in consultation with the heart.

We must FEEL - before we DECIDE.

Do you have a sensitive child?

Do you regret it?

Do you think it is time to rethink our approach to this character trait?

Is it time to view it as a strength instead of a weakness?
