A Grateful Farewell
The Hallmark Channel announced last night that they will not create another season of Cedar Cove. As I reflect on the past three years, I’m humbled that Hallmark Channel entrusted me with their first scripted TV series. It was an honor that will remain one of the highlights of my career. We had three wonderful years for which I will always be grateful. I could not have chosen a more talented cast or crew to bring my stories to life. Andie MacDowell, Dylan Neal and the rest of the cast beautifully portrayed their characters that are as dear to me as friends. I want to heartily thank you, the viewers, for making these past three years such a success. None of this would have happened without you. I look forward to working with Hallmark Channel in the future.

Strangling Vine Scarf
Strangling Vine Scarf
Knitted by Debbie Macomber
Pattern: Strangling Vine Scarf by Nicole Hindes (free pattern)
Yarn: 1 Skein Tiara by Hi Koo
Needles: US size 4
Comments: The Tiara yarn is so soft and I loved that it has sequins and beads built in. I enjoyed the pattern so much that I took my first baby steps into design by adapting the basic pattern into a baby blanket! Cascade Yarns Cherub Chunky was my choice for the baby blanket, though. When that is finished, I will share it, as well!

Inspired by my readers
I’ve been gallivanting around this month, making appearances in three different states—well, four if you include Washington. I don’t mind traveling as the long flights are great opportunities for uninterrupted reading and knitting time. One of my favorite aspects of being an author is meeting my readers. What you might not know is that your feedback has changed the course of my career any number of times.
If it wasn’t for your notes, letter and website messages there would be no cookbooks, no Christmas stories and no Cedar Cove series, TV or otherwise. So thank you. If you happen to be in any of the areas where I’ll be speaking please don’t be shy. I love meeting you and as you might have guessed I’m downright friendly. Keep an eye on my events page because I just may be visiting your community soon!
Here I am with Nissa Marquart and Rhonda Bostick, who attended a reader breakfast at the Victorian Tea Room this past weekend.

Sweet 16
My granddaughter Maddy and I share a birthday. This is a big year for Maddy Rose who turns 16. Naturally she’s chopping at the bit to drive. The afternoon she was born was one of the most wonderful days of my life. I was thrilled that my daughter had gone into labor and told her I’d meet her at the hospital. However on the way there I got sidetracked telling everyone in town that Jenny Adele was having the baby on my birthday. To make a long story short, I was so busy talking up the exciting event that I missed Maddy’s birth. I have yet to live this down. This is one special young woman and I can’t wait to see what God has planned for her life.

Explain Yourself!
I fully recognize we should appreciate the people God brings into our lives. That said there are individuals who try women’s souls—a good deal of the time they are our husband’s. (Yes, dear Wayne I am talking about you!) Let me give you a recent example. Once a year . . . let me repeat that . . . once a year I allow myself one small bag of fried Cheetos. If I buy one small bag I will savor each one and count it as a treasure. My guess is you know where this is going.
I bought my little cheese goodies home and the next morning I discovered Wayne had gotten up in the middle of the night and ate my Cheetos. I propped the empty bag up against his computer (the first place he goes in the morning) with a large sign that read: EXPLAIN YOURSELF. I can’t help but wonder how it is that after all these years my husband still doesn’t understand he should never stand between me and my Cheetos.

Season 3, Episode 4: Guess Who’s Coming for Dinner
My husband decided to marry me on the sound advice of a fortune cookie. I’m not making this up. Let me start from the beginning. When Wayne asked me to marry him I didn’t give him the chance to change his mind. We set the date and within the month, I had my wedding dress picked out, mom and dad had the down payment on the rental hall, and the invitations were ordered. Then Wayne decided to change jobs, taking a substantial cut in pay. He wasn’t sure he could make it financially and taking on the responsibility of a wife made him think twice. With his heart on his sleeve he asked me if I’d be willing to put off the wedding for a year. My husband decided to marry me on the sound advice of a fortune cookie. I’m not making this up. Season 3, Episode 3: Something’s Gotta Give
Growing up my brother was a pest. There’s no other way to describe him. For most of our years together we had a love/hate relationship common among siblings. Actually, I should probably thank my brother for giving my publishing career its initial start. I kept a diary back in those days, starting around the time I was in the sixth grade. Fact is, I still write in one daily but I’m more sophisticated now and call it my journal . . . but I digress. Read the full blog.
Season 3, Episode 2: A Helping Hand
Wayne and I were blessed with two daughters and two sons. All four of the kids were born within a five year span which meant that they were all teenagers at the same time. To put it mildly, the hormones bounced off the walls at our house. To complicate matters, if the kids weren’t bickering with one another they were butting heads with Wayne and me.
Many of the plot points in the Cedar Cove books involving the relationships between Olivia and Justine and Grace and her two daughters evolved out of that time with my own young adult daughters. Read the full blog.
