postitforward:

Hey, Tumblr. We’re making a quilt. We want you to help.

We’ve partnered with the NYC Department of Health (@nychealth), ThriveNYC, the First Lady of New York Chirlane McCray (@flonyc), and Tumblr Creatrs (@creatrs) to build a digital Mental Health Quilt.

What’s this, then? Each patch on this wonderful thing will represent an individual’s relationship with mental illness. That’s where you come in. Whether you’ve battled it before, are going through it now, or are helping others...

americasgreatoutdoors:

Just 12 miles west of Las Vegas, the colorful, bare sandstone of the aptly named Rainbow Mountain Wilderness emerges from the valley floor – standing guard over the surrounding pinyon-juniper forest and Mojave Desert scrub below. Its sheer, towering red and white cliffs are cut by rugged, narrow, twisting canyons lined with willow, ash and hackberry trees. With wispy clouds pouring over the mountains, it is quite a view. “That’s the best thing about language: every time you use a word you are summoning so many other things—all the times that word has ever been used. What does it mean that everything that we are writing is recycled? Words are full of ghosts. Poetry is full of ghosts.”

Seven Tears at High Tide by C.B. Lee (@authorcblee)

Kevin remembers what Morgan once said about love, about wanting that person to be happy. He knows forcing him to come back wouldn’t be right. Whatever happens now, even if the rules of the Sea say they can never meet again and it was only for this summer, Kevin knows he’s still grateful to have known Morgan.

“I’d like to counter that diversity in children’s media—and in young adult fantasy—is important because it’s for kids. Children and teens know that books aren’t real, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t also internalizing the messages. When diverse peoples and cultures aren’t a part of these fantasy worlds, young readers are being repeatedly told that they can’t have adventures like the characters because they don’t look the part, that they are less important than imaginary creatures. They’re b...
