Them!

This was one of the earliest horror films I remember from my childhood, on the Creature Double Feature, on a Saturday afternoon.  It really freaked me out as a kid.

PLANETARY # 8 “THE DAY THE EARTH TURNED SLOWER” (WILDSTORM/DC COMICS)Release Date: February 2000 (Contemporary Setting)Series: PlanetaryHorror Crosses: Them! The Story: The group defeat a secret organization trying to create an army of giant ants.
Notes: It’s revealed that the events of the film Them! which took place in the 1950s was orchestrated by a secret government project. The Planetary is an organization that calls its members “archaeologists of the impossible” and this cross brings them into the Horror Universe.

**UPDATED** LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION (FILM)Release Date: November 9, 2003 (Contemporary Setting)Series: Looney TunesHorror Crosses: Scooby-Doo! (See Notes); This Island Earth; Fiend without a Face ; THEM! Non-Horror Crosses: Doctor Who (Peter Cushing); Forbidden Planet; Robert the Robot; The Jack Benny ProgramThe Story: When Daffy demands his own movie, he’s fired by Warner Bros. Daffy ends up causing a security guard to be fired also, and follows him home to make amends. The fired guard is the son of a famous action star who turns out to be a real secret agent, and the guard and Daffy get involved in a mission. Meanwhile, Bugs refuses to work unless Daffy is hired back, so he and the vice president of comedy head out to find Daffy.
Notes: First, let me apologize to serious horror fans. However, the appearance of the Metaluna Mutant brings this film into the Horror Universe. The hard part for me was to explain how it could fit. Luckily, I have great friends who brought to my attention the film Evil Toons. Though some cartoon animals have been explained away as experiments of Doctor Moreau, in the case of this film, the Looney Tunes characters are clearly cartoons, but ones living in the “real world”, working for Warner Bros. and elsewhere in the world. In Evil Toons, which is in the Horror Universe due to the crossover relevant to this entry, the Necronomicon ex Mortis (from Evil Dead) is used to bring cartoon characters to life, in order to serve the spell caster. Warner Bros. must have performed such a spell to bring their creations to life to serve as actors (because it’s easier?) I presume the fact that people don’t freak out when encountering living cartoons is an effect of the spell as well. It should be noted that likely all fully animated Looney Tunes cartoons are fictional within the Horror Universe, but these living cartoons take on the characteristics and memories of the fictional characters they resemble. Scooby-Doo and Shaggy appear, as animated characters at the Warner Bros. cafeteria, complaining about their portrayal in the live action films. This can’t be the same Scooby and Shaggy from the 1970s and 1980s cartoons. Those cartoons feature a real person and dog (albeit a talking dog). In the 1980s, there was an animated movie called Scooby-Doo Goes Hollywood. Since the 1980s films are in the Horror Universe, we can use that film as evidence that Mystery, Incorporated, and particularly Scooby, became famous. Evidently famous enough to have a cartoon and live action film based on them. The cartoon Scooby and Shaggy of this film must be the 21st century series of new Scooby-Doo! animated films, brought to life just as the Looney Tunes figures were. Based on that, we must assume those 21st century animated films, as well as the live action films they were complaining about, must be fictional within the Horror Universe. In one scene that takes place in a lab, the film’s heroes encounter the Metaluna Mutant, a pair of Daleks, Robbie the Robot, the Fiend without a Face and Robert the Robot. The Metaluna Mutant is the basis for this film’s inclusion in this guide and within the Horror Universe. The Metaluna Mutant is from This Island Earth. Though the film is more sci-fi than horror, the Metaluna Mutant was included in Scary Monsters Magazine’s Universal Kombat Series, thus placing him among the ranks of the classic Universal Monsters. The Daleks are an alien race that are enemies of the Doctor from Doctor Who, but these specific Daleks were an enemy of the Doctor’s alternate universe counterpart, Doctor Who, played by Peter Cushing. Robbie the Robot is from Forbidden Planet, which takes place in the future, but as seen in Gremlins, he seems to get around through time and space. The Fiend without a Face is the creature from the film of the same name. Robert the Robot was a toy of the 1950s, though the version here is life size, as the toy was meant to be imagined as, thus this is a crossover with the fictional world that the toy lived in. Finally, the car used in the film by the security guard and Daffy is the same talking car (voiced by Mel Blanc from archived footage) from the Jack Benny Program, thus bringing that television program of classic TV into the Horror Universe. Mentions giant ants and plays theme music.   **UPDATED**

FRANKENSTEIN VS. THE CREATURE FROM BLOOD COVE (FILM)Release Date: October 4, 2005 (Contemporary Setting)Series: Frankenstein (Universal); Creature from the Black LagoonHorror Crosses: ThemThe Story: A mad scientist creates a gill-man and finds one of Frankenstein’s creations. His goal is to use both in the war on terror.Notes: This is an homage to the Universal films. Though there’s no actual connection to the Creature from the Black Lagoon directly, the creature created is indeed a Gill-Man in almost every way. Because this is a Universal style film, I consider this a cross with the Universal Frankenstein. This may be the original monster, considering his revival in 1998. It certainly can’t be the alternate Universal version created by Boris Frankenstein (as seen in Mad, Mad, Mad Monsters). He was sucked into a Hell dimension in Monster Squad. There is a mention of the giant ants in the Mojave.

ATOMIC ROBO # 2 “PEST CONTROL” (RED 5 COMICS)Release Date: November 1, 2007 (Contemporary Setting)Series: Atomic RoboHorror Crosses: Them! The Story: Atomic Robo heads to Nevada to deal with ants turned giant by radiation. Notes: Of course, this is a recurrence of the incident from the film Them!

JUST ANOTHER JUDGEMENT DAY (NOVEL BY SIMON R. GREEN)Release Date: December 29, 2009 (Contemporary Setting, likely just after The Unnatural Inquirer)Series: NightsideHorror Crosses: Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos; Frankenstein (see Notes); Frankenstein (all of them, every version); The Picture of Dorian Gray; Shoggoth’s Old Peculiar; Them!; Creature from the Black Lagoon; Doctor Jekyll and Mister HydeNon-Horror Crosses: Doctor Who; Secret Histories; Doctor Syn; Solomon Kane; Deathstalker; BeowulfThe Story: The Walking Man is the embodiment of the wrath of God and he has come to the Nightside. Nightside’s new authorities hire John Taylor to stop him.Notes: The Walking Man is shown to be so powerful that he can easily destroy a Lovecraftian horror while walking down the street without even slowing down. (I guess God trumps Cthulhu after all.) Shoggoth’s Old and Very Peculiar appears again. Zhang the Mystic, a member of the Adventurer’s Club, is said to have battled Elder Gods. John Taylor and Suzie Shooter fight an evil Victor Frankenstein from a mirror universe. This is not the same Victor Frankenstein from the main Horror Universe timeline. Taylor mentions that Frankenstein is a common name in the Nightside and that he has encountered many of Victor’s descendents and their creations. This supports my theory (adapted from the theories of Mark Brown and Chuck Loridians) that many of the Frankensteins and monsters seen in fiction are Victor’s family and their numerous monsters, rather than always being the same Victor Frankenstein and one single monster. The mirror Victor finds a way to control the citizens of the Nightside by learning that the actions of people in one reality dictates the actions of their doppelgangers. Taylor compares this to Dorian Gray’s picture, where Dorian’s actions are reflected within the portrait. The sewers of the Nightside have giant ants, like those from the film Them! The Adventurer’s Club has a stuffed Creature from the Black Lagoon. Jacqueline Hyde is at the Adventurer’s Club. In the previous Nightside novel, she was mentioned in the Unnatural Inquirer as being in love with her male Hyde alter ego. There is an old Victorian drinking song called “Dr. Jekyll’s Locum”. One of Suzie’s neighbors is Sarah Kingdom, a character who first appeared on Doctor Who during the first Doctor’s run. Janissary Jane, a character from Green’s Secret Histories, appears at the Adventurer’s Club. The Walking Man mentions the Drood family from Secret Histories. Past members of the Adventurer’s Club include Dr. Syn, Salvation Kane (likely meant to be Solomon Kane) and Owen Deathstalker from Green’s futuristic sci-fi Deathstalker series. At a gun shop is the Darkvoid Device, also from the Deathstalker series. (Remember that the Nightside exists outside normal time and space.) The Adventurer’s Club also has an arm of Grendel, who was slain by Beowulf.

Behind it all is a secret organization, chosen to sacrifice youth to ancient gods. All of the above named crossovers have been linked in this film, and revealed to be part of this secret conspiracy. Most of the crossovers above come from the monsters and artifacts contained in the facility. While some of the monsters and artifacts are clearly from certain films above, many are based on certain types of horror films, in which case I included the more well-known of these film types. I recommend the well-researched Cabin in the Woods Wiki for a more detailed listing of the monsters and their inspirations. Note that I included in the above crossovers some monsters that only appeared in the official novelization and the official Universal Theme Park attraction tie-in. With this film, I break one of my major rules of crossover connecting. Though some of the crosses are direct crosses, like Evil Dead and Left 4 Dead, most of them are only connected because the films represent the more well-known films of the trope from which a certain monster comes. Normally, I would not count something that is “like something from”, but there is dialogue within the film that makes me break my rule. In one scene, referring to the monsters, security officer Daniel Truman says “They’re like something from a nightmare.” Lin, a head scientist, responds, “No, they’re something nightmares are from.” She goes on to explain that these monsters are the creations of the Ancient Ones, having been around since the beginning, and different cultures have told stories that interpret them in different ways. Thus, in the instance of this film, “like” is enough because of the author’s intent. And thus my love/hate relationship with Joss Whedon, for expanding the Horror Universe dramatically but making me do a lot of work to write this entry. Note that this film ends with the start of an apocalypse, so the end must veer into a divergent timeline. We must presume in the main Horror Universe, the virgin shot the fool. And if you haven’t seen the movie, that last sentence probably seems very bizarre. This film has been referenced as fictional in South Park, The Cinema Snob, Scary Movie 5, and Doc of the Dead. It is also paid homage to in Red Dawn when Chris Hemsworth and his friends once more wind up in a cabin in the woods. The film has also been spoofed in Robot Chicken and Scary Movie 5.

The Fiend Without a Face

[image error][image error]
1912 to 2018--IMDB--According to IMDB, several completely unrelated characters named Dr. Warren are all the same character. I don't believe this to be at all accurate, but here is the complete list of from the Dr. Warren appearances page, that starts with 1912's THE LAST DANCE and ends with 2018's ASTRONOMY WALKERS, and of course includes THE FIEND WITHOUT A FACE.

WAR OF THE UNDEAD # 1 - 3 (IDW)Release Date: January 1 - April 1, 2007 (Set in April 1945, following Hitler’s death)Horror Crosses: Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde; Invisible Man (Universal); Dracula (IDW); Frankenstein (IDW); Hellboy (Comics); Fiend without a FaceNon-Horror Crosses: Spider-Man; Forbidden PlanetThe Story: Nazis are trying to raise Hitler to lead an army of the undead.Notes: The story opens with Jekyll a captive of the Nazis who want his secret formula. They also had a scientist with the secret of invisibility but he escaped and died of exposure. Griffin died in 1898 (per League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), but there have been stories that feature Geoffrey Radcliffe (from the sequel) posing as Griffin. It may be that it was Radcliffe that they had captured. I doubt claims of his death in this story though. The Dracula of this story would be the IDW version, brought in by this story. IDW also published Spike vs. Dracula, but that is the Dracula of the Buffy series, who is not the same. LIkewise this is the IDW Frankenstein being brought in here. Both Dracula and Frankenstein fit into the Nazi plot. There is also a gorilla with a brain visible in a glass dome, a reference to Hellboy. One of the brain monsters from the Fiend Without a Face also appears. Another monster is an SS officer made of bugs, perhaps referencing Spider-man’s foe Swarm. Finally, Robby the Robot appears. Robby is from one of the possible future timelines of the Horror Universe. Despite that, Robby tends to show up several times in the 20th century, likely thanks to time travellers.

ALTERNATE REALITIES:
TVCU-2: On 22 March 2010, Roy Frumkes confirmed to  Fangoria  magazine that he would produce a remake of the film in 2011.[11] The online website Dread Central offered an October 2013 update from Frumkes on his Fiend Without a Face remake: "I’ve wanted to do this film for 40 years, so I already had it all in my head, and it wasn’t hard to write. What I didn’t have was the technical information; I’m no science buff. Now I’m interviewing scientists, getting the technology straight. It’s set in a think tank in the Berkshires, and it’s not about young people. It’s a mature film, but it has a  Street Trash  sensibility, so the people who like my work will not be disappointed." The website also posted a still from a fund-raising trailer Frumkes had shot for the remake with director Franco Frassetti.
Les Jaunes (2014) Poster
TVCU-3:  Rémi Fréchette, a Montreal-based filmmaker, produced, co-wrote and directed a Web series (2013) and a feature film (2014) called Les Jaunes, in close resonance with the themes and images of Fiend Without a Face, including its military aspects, rural setting, and energy-based brain creatures.[12][13]

Welcome to Jurassic Park

GLIMMERGLASS: THE CREATIVE WRITER’S ANNUAL, VOLUME 1 “THE BEAST” (STORY BY JOHN SMALL)Release Date: October 15, 2009 (Setting is 1700s to Contemporary Times)Series: King Kong (Original)Horror Crosses: King Kong (2005 remake); War of the Worlds (novel); War of the Worlds (radio); The Mummy (remake film series); Jurassic Park (film series); Kong: the Animated Series; Jurassic Park (novel)Non-Horror Crosses: Buckaroo Banzai; Tarzan; Flash Gordon; Tales of the Gold Monkey; Journey to the Center of the Earth; Tales of the Shadowmen; Doc Savage; Indiana Jones; Mighty Joe Young; A-Team; Fu ManchuThe Story: Author John Small discovers that the film King Kong was based on true events and gathers research on the true events of the film and the follow-up events that have happened since.Notes: John Small uses a popular Farmerian method (named for Philip Jose Farmer) in which he places himself in the world of fiction, imagining that fictional stories are based on true events. Here, he melds together the original Kong story, and its sequels, prequels, and remakes, and makes them all fit into one coherent reality. Along the way, he throws in references to other fictional characters who must have been involved in such events based on their stature and the nature of the event. John Small makes official my conjecture that the 2005 film by Peter Jackson is the same events as the original film, just retold with dramatic license from Mr. Jackson. In explaining how the events of Kong could have happened in a world where most people are unaware of the supernatural and the extraordinary, he references other events that have later been covered up, despite their overly public exposure, such as the 1898 and 1938 Martian invasions from War of the Worlds, and the invasion of Mongo from Flash Gordon. DOC SAVAGE and TARZAN employ Denham to return to Skull Island to do documentary filming. Skull Island is said to be "the Menace of the Monsters". Joining in on the expedition were INDIANA JONES, Alex O'Connell (famous for taking down THE MUMMY), and Joshua Williams (from "Joshua Williams Breaks a Date"). (TARZAN couldn't make it due to events seen in TARZAN ALIVE). Roland Tembo is among the expedition as well. Tembo's CINEVERSE counterpart appears in THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK. SON OF KONG is a fictionalized version of events that actually happened during this expedition. In Kong Reborn, Dr. Jill Drake is involved in this incident. Jill discovers that BUCKAROO BANZAI has moved a clone of KING KONG to BANDUKI. It may be that the events of KONG: THE ANIMATED SERIES may be based on these events, which involve a female scientist who clones Kong then has to release him in a suitable environment. It was followed by KONG: KING OF ATLANTIS and KONG: RETURN TO THE JUNGLE. Among the crew that journeys to Skull Island in the first expedition is Jake Cutter (TALES OF THE GOLD MONKEY). Kong is of the same species as seen in JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, TARZAN AT THE EARTH'S CORE, and TALES OF THE SHADOWMEN 3: DANSE MACABRE "The Ape Gigans". Mighty Joe Young is also connected to Kong and one of Denham’s grandsons is tied in as a villain on an episode of the A-Team. Fu Manchu is also said to be the villain secretly behind Jurassic Park.
1932 to 1948--THE WORLD OF KONG:  A NATURAL HISTORY OF SKULL ISLAND--DOC SAVAGE and TARZAN employ Denham to return to Skull Island to do documentary filming. Roland Tembo is amongst the expedition as well.  Tembo's CINEVERSE counterpart appears in THE LOST WORLD:  JURASSIC PARK.  SON OF KONG is a fictionalized version of events that actually happened during this expedition.

Buy the book. The Story: This is a reference guide to places that people who live within this shared fictional reality could visit.
Notes: This list of fictional settings is written under the premise that they are all real places that people could visit. Considering the above crosses, it clearly fits in the Horror Universe. Note that this brings J. Sheridan le Fanu’s The Siege of the Red House, and three works of Poe (The Masque of the Red Death, Shadow: A Parable and Silence: A Parable) into the Horror Universe.

THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK (FILM)Release Date: May 23, 1997 (Contemporary Setting)Series: Jurassic ParkHorror Crosses: King Kong; GODZILLA NON-HORROR CROSSES: LAST ACTION HERO The Story: Turns out there was another island, and they think it’s a great idea to bring a dinosaur into civilization. Notes: The ship that brings the dinosaur to the United States is the Venture. The Japanese tourists running from the rampaging T-Rex in the San Diego scene are saying in Japanese: "I left Japan to get away from this?!"  In the San Diego video store, there is a poster advertising a movie with 1998--TRESPASSER--This game takes place on the same island as this film, and was intended to be released as a film tie-in.

July 2001--JURASSIC PARK III--A decidedly odd couple with ulterior motives convince Dr. Alan Grant to go to Isla Sorna (the second InGen dinosaur lab.), resulting in an unexpected landing...and unexpected new inhabitants on the island.
February 2002--BIG FAT LIAR--After the flood water is turned on and trips up Marty Wolf, he crashes into a sign at a fork in the road. The sign reads "Isla Nublar", which is the island in which Jurassic Park takes place.
March 2002--SMALLVILLE--"Nicodemus"--When Clark, Chloe and Pete are talking about the flower, he mentions the creation of the park.
March 2003--JURASSIC PARK: OPERATION GENESIS--Video Game
March 2004--METAL GEAR SOLID: THE TWIN SNAKES--In the Briefing, when they're talking all about genetic engineering, Snake says it sounds like a "dinosaur theme park".
May 2005--FAMILY GUY--"North by North Quahog"--On finding a hotel to spend the night while their car gets fixed, Peter and Lois encounter a hooker, much to Lois’ concern. Peter reassures her by saying “Keep absolutely still, Lois; their vision is based on movement,” a reference to Jurassic Park in which the main protagonist (Alan Grant) has a similar (and equally erroneous) line when they encounter a Tyrannosaurus, as well as a reference to the general concept of avoiding movement-based-visioned predators by remaining still. (This same hooker is seen with Charlie Brown in “Mother Tucker.”)  After Chris is caught drinking, Flint from the cartoon G.I. Joe gives an educational message, like he (and others) did on the real G.I. Joe show. He is even voiced by his original actor, Bill Ratner.
August 2005--BARNEY: THE LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE--Barney and friends walk under a "Jurassic Park" sign, while the movie's theme music plays.
2006--

Janos in the Dreamlands Raptor attacks!NOV - Janos Schablotski agrees to join the Dreamship Escapade every year in November, and brings aboard his friend Adam Kennedy. On this year's voyage they return to the Dreamlands and Janos discovers he can transform at will into a werewolf while in the magically-charged realm. Janos meets fellow traveler Allison Wonderland, who also opts to ally herself with the Escapade. They mistakenly return to the TVCU on Isla Sorna, aka Jurassic Park, and have to contend with the faux dinosaur population while hunting down batteries and other resources for their remaining travels.
The Dreamlands is a collective dimension created by H P Lovecraft, showing up frequently within his Dream Cycle of stories (beginning with POLARIS in 1918). The Escapade and her crew are inspired by Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark (1876). Adam Kennedy and Allison Wonderland are part of Janos' supporting cast, though Alison's name is a tribute to the Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865). Jurassic Park is from the 1990 novel JURASSIC PARK and a series of books, movies, and games that further the story.

November 2008--FAMILY GUY--"Tales of a Third Grade Nothing"--Peter's journey to the executive bathroom is a reference to Jurassic Park. John Hammond welcomes Peter and the music played while the helicopter flies above the island was used in the movie. Peter using the restroom and commenting on how peaceful everything is also a reference to a far different scene in the movie when a lawyer was eaten by a Tyrannosaurus Rex after attempting to hide in a bathroom stall.  Emperor Palpatine appears at the Quahog Cabana Club. He requests the song "On The Dark Side" by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band.  Yosemite Sam is seen trying on jeans at Barney's, a famous clothing store in New York City.
April 2011--JURASSIC PARK: PRIME SURVIVAL--The boys reference Nick Van Owen's attempt to photograph dinosaurs.
November 2011--JURASSIC PARK: THE GAME--The Sarah that Gerry and Jess refer to is the same Sarah from LOST WORLD.
March 2012--UGLY AMERICANS--"The Roast of Twayne the Boneraper"--Jurassic Park is one of the "failed liberal projects" found beneath the sea.

Dollman vs. Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys vs. Bad Channels

1892--RETRO PUPPET MASTER--It's 1892 and Sutekh is hopping mad. It seems a 3,000 year old Egyptian sorcerer has stolen one of the God's secrets of life - that of instilling the souls of the dying into inanimate things. Sutekh raises three mummified former high priests, led by the villainous "First Servant", and charges them with recovering both the Sorceror and his secret. There is no lack of victims for the 3 high-faluting, stylish villains as they pursue their prey to 19th century Paris, and the very young puppeteer, Andre Toulon. Toulon runs a puppet theatre in the heart of Paris, and meets the sorcerer (the mysterious Afzel) when he is found by the lovely Swiss Ambassador's daughter Ilsa, after being nearly killed. It is there and then that we find the seed of things to come, and the origin of the Puppetmaster series of tales.
WWII--PUPPET MASTER III: TOULON'S REVENGE--Set in Berlin during WWII, the Nazi regime is attempting to develop a drug that will animate the dead, in order to use in the war effort. Toulon arouses suspicion as a Nazi dissident, and his secret is discovered. During a Nazi raid on his home, Toulon's beautiful wife is murdered. Toulon vows revenge, with the help of his animated puppets. This movie gives a new perspective on Toulon and his "friends".
World War II--PUPPET MASTER: AXIS OF EVIL--In a Stateside hotel during the height of World War II, young Danny Coogan dreams of joining the war effort. Following the murder of hotel guest Mr. Toulon by Nazi assassins, Danny finds the old man's crate of mysterious puppets and is suddenly thrust into a battle all his own. He discovers that Nazis Max and Klaus, along with beautiful Japanese saboteur Ozu, plan to attack a secret American manufacturing plant. After his family is attacked and his girlfriend Beth is kidnapped, it is up to Danny and the living deadly Puppets to stop this Axis of Evil.
World War II--PUPPET MASTER: AXIS RISING--After foiling a plot to blow up an American arms plant, Danny Coogan and his girlfriend, Beth, quickly find that their troubles have just begun. One of Toulon's mysterious Puppets has been kidnapped by the Nazis, and under the wicked, watchful eye of the occultist Commandant Moebius, the Puppets' life-giving serum is synthesized to create a master race of unstoppable soldiers. Moebius plots to assassinate the highly-decorated General Porter to deliver a crippling blow to the American war effort, but his experiments are not ready. A Nazi Scientist uses the serum to create their own superior race of Nazi Puppets in the form of Blitzkrieg, Wehrmacht, Bombshell and Kamikaze! Danny and Beth, teamed with craggy Sergeant Stone and Toulon's Puppets, are no match for Moebius and his war machine. It is up to Blade, Pinhead, Leech Woman and Jester to revive their own secret weapon to stop the Axis Rising!
World War II--PUPPET MASTER: AXIS TERMINATION--Since its inception in 1989, the "Puppet Master Series" has been our most celebrated, beloved, and enduring franchise. It's the most successful independent direct to video horror franchise of all time! With classic characters like Blade, Jester, Pinhead, Tunneler and Leech Woman returning to thrill dedicated fans and general audiences alike. For the 11th installment in the series, Charles Band will be directing "Puppet Master: Axis Termination! Set in Los Angeles during World War II, "Axis Termination" continues the Axis Trilogy, which began with "Puppet Master: Axis of Evil" and continued with "Axis Rising". This is the same time period as David DeCoteau's classic "Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge."

1989--PUPPETMASTER--Neil Gallagher found the secret to Toulon's puppets who come to life and then killed himself. Alex and his psychic friends come to investigate and are stalked by Toulon's puppets who have a variety of strange traits including a drill for a head and the ability to spit up leeches.
February 1991--PUPPET MASTER II--The puppets return, this time they hunt some Paranormal Researchers to take their brain fluid for the dead/living puppet master, Andre Toulon.

DOLLMAN VS. DEMONIC TOYS (FILM)Release Date: October 13, 1993 (Contemporary Setting)Series: Dollman; Demonic ToysNon-Horror Crosses: Bad ChannelsThe Story: When Brick Bardo learns about Nurse Ginger, who is permanently shrunken to doll size like himself, he seeks her out to let her know that she is not alone. Meanwhile, a homeless man is injured in the Toyland warehouse and his blood awakens the demon that repossesses the toys. Judith Grey seeks out the aid of Brick and Ginger to stop the demonic toys.Notes: Brick Bardo was the hero of Dollman. Nurse Ginger was shrunk in Bad Channels, though in Bad Channels, Bunny was the one permanently shrunk. Perhaps that actress wasn’t available. This film retroactively changes that part of the events from Bad Channels. Though Demonic Toys 2 comes out in 2009, it seems to follow right after the original film, so that it should take place between the first Demonic Toys and this film. This film is followed by Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys.
September 1995--PUPPET MASTER 4--A young scientist working on an artificial intelligence project is the target of strange gremlin-like creatures, who are out to kill him and thus terminate his research. By coincidence, in one of the rooms he uses, there's a mysterious case containing the puppets of the "puppet master". When the puppets are brought to life, they help destroy the creatures.
September 1995--PUPPET MASTER 5: THE FINAL CHAPTER--The puppets battle their most powerful enemy yet as they protect the new puppet master from the demon God that created the Secret of Life.
May 1998--CURSE OF THE PUPPET MASTER--A scientist attempts to master the art of transferring people's souls into puppets.

The Near Future?--DANZA MACABRA--The movie is in the continuity of the same story with evil puppets.

Hannah Montana and the Disney Live Action Sitcom Universe

The Television Crossover Universe website is celebrating it's fifth anniversary.

So now comes the secret behind how this site came to be.  Five years ago, I was involved in another shared reality discussion group, and we were discussing how certain extremely odd series could be linked to the more pulp and literature oriented shared reality by crossover connections.  I proposed that Hannah Montana could exist in that reality using crossover links.  I'm now banned from that group.

And so, I created this website.  And it's taken me five years to finally cover Hannah Montana.  You see, it was never really that I was a fan of Hannah Montana.  It was just that I am a fan of fictional crossovers in general, and have a particular fondness for TV crossovers.  I'd spent my whole life obsessing over them.  And since I couldn't find anyplace else that would welcome my thoughts on TV crossovers, I created this website.  I honestly didn't think anyone would read my blog.  But they did.  And now there are published books and a podcast.  And I have to point out that this might never have happened if I hadn't proposed that Hannah Montana was part of a larger shared reality.

So I guess I owe Miley and Disney.

So here goes...

Thousands of Years Ago--Atlantis was destroyed due to those who dabbled in magic without proper discipline.  This prompts the Elders to create Magic School, which exists in an other dimensional realm.  According the the Charmed comic, there are only three of these schools in existence.  However, we know there are others.  And considering how the Elders brought Prue back to life in Salem, MA, which is where Melinda Warren was burned, this HAS to be the Salem school seen in the HARRY POTTER books and also referenced in other shows like WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE and SCOOBY-DOO.

1982--Charmed establishes that real zombies were used for Thriller, manipulated by a demon.  Wizards of Waverly Place also alludes to this as being fact!!!  And the Michael Jackson THRILLER zombie appeared in the movie RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD PART II.  As seen above, our own Crazy Ivan has also had a run in with said zombies.

January 1989--MAMA'S FAMILY--"Full House"--This episode reference FULL HOUSE.  There are a log of Full House zonks to deal with in the TVCU. One might consider that Danny was a talk show host in San Francisco, Joey was a stand-up comedian, and Jessie was a professional musician.  So between the three of them, they could have had enough moderate success that perhaps their unusual family dynamic became well known.  Perhaps Wake UP San Francisco had a recurring segment on the show called "Full House" about the family's adventures. It wasn't unusual for the family to show up on the show.  So between the three semi-famous careers of the men of the house, this could perhaps cover the zonks.  Other shows that have had Full House zonks include:  CLARISSA EXPLAINS IT ALL, HOME IMPROVEMENT, MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000, THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW, BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD, BOY MEETS WORLD, THE CRITIC, THE NANNY, SOUTH PARK, LEISURE SUIT LARRY, ENTOURAGE, CHARMED, GILMORE GIRLS, HANNAH MONTANA, THE ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD, ICARLY, FAMILY GUY, GETAWAY, GREEK, THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC, THE CINEMA SNOB, LAST MAN STANDING, AMERICAN DAD!, I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER, HOUSE M.D., GLEE, KENDRA ON TOP, NEW GIRL, STUDIO C, THE SIMPSONS, JAMES & MIKE PLAY, WORKAHOLICS, ACTION, and ROSEANNE.

January 2003 to November 2007--THAT'S SO RAVEN--Raven attends Bayside High School in San Francisco.  Greg (of Dharma and Greg) also attended this high school, as seen in a class reunion episode of DHARMA AND GREG.  Bayside High was also the setting of SAVED BY THE BELL, and the same sets are used on That's So Raven.  An oddity regarding Bayside High on Saved by the Bell is that the school moves.  Perhaps some sort of witchcraft is involved to explain this.  When Saved by the Bell went by its original name of Good Morning Miss Bliss (when it was on the Disney Channel, thus linking another Disney Channel show), the setting was John F. Kennedy Middle School in Indianapolis.  When the show was retooled by NBC as Saved by the Bell, it now took place at Bayside High in Palisades, California.  Did Zack, Screech, and Lisa all move?  Also, Principle Belding would have also had to have moved with them.  And Jessie on Saved by the Bell was established to have been friends with Zack since they were little kids.  It's a strange mystery of the TVCU how these kids and their principle ended up all moving together (with their families as well, of course.)  And then another mystery how the school itself later moved across state.  Though Good Morning Miss Bliss was on the Disney Channel, and links to That's So Raven, I will later cover the Saved by the Bell franchise in a future blog post.  Click here for Thom Holbrook's view on the migration of Bayside High.

August 2003--THE CHEETAH GIRLS--Four teens aim to take the world by storm with their music.

December 2003--THE NICK AT NITE HOLIDAY SPECIAL--French Stewart says "That's so Raven" when he hears her outside singing.

2004--THE CHEETAH GIRLS--After the success of The Cheetah Girls movie on Disney Channel, a pilot episode was filmed for a TV series on The Cheetah Girls for ABC for the 2004-2005 season.

2005 to 2008--THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY--Comedy about identical twins living at the Tipton Hotel with their single mother who is a lounge singer at the hotel.

High School Musical

2006--HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL--Is Mr. Sweet also perhaps the glee club teacher in Community? Or is there more than one musical demon, accounting for groups that are affected over a longer term period, like in Glee and High School Musical?  Toby O'Brien says "The splainin for the song and dance routines is markedly different from what happened in "Once More With Feeling", the musical episode of 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'. Those characters were forced into a little song, a little dance (but without the seltzer down their pants) by the demon known as Sweet. His raison d'etre can be connected to other musical episodes like the one from 'Seventh Heaven', as well as to entire series like 'Cop Rock', 'Hull High', and 'That's Life'. His most recent addition to his Crossover Hall of Fame credentials (inducted in October of 2005) would be the TV movie "High School Musical"."

2006 to 2011--HANNAH MONTANA--On the Disney Channel Series "Hannah Montana" Miley's foil/rival/crush, Jake Ryan (played by Cody Linley), is the star of a fictional television series Zombie Slayer at Zombie High, with obviousBuffy parallels.  Obviously this series is a rip-off of the series produced by Joss and Andrew.

June 2006--THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY--"The Suite Smell of Excess"--In the alternate universe of the hotel, Maddie behaves exactly like Sharpay Evans

June 2006--THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY--"The Suite Smell of Excess"--Arwin's "Parallel Universalizer" is disguised as a British Telephone Booth, just like the Tardis.

June 2006--WENDY WU: HOMECOMING WARRIOR--A Californian teenager learns that she is the reincarnation of a legendary female warrior destined to protect the world.
July 2006--THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY--"That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana"--Part 1: Raven steps up to organize an important photo shoot showcasing Donna Cabonna's new fashion line for boys at the Tipton Hotel in Boston. After a mishap, she must substitute the fashion models with Zack and Cody. When the reclusive photographer Pistache gets stuck halfway around the world, Raven's got to think quickly to save the photo shoot. Meanwhile Cory and Eddie try to get Chelsea to break the record for the world's longest paddle ball session so they can claim the prize money. They think they have the record in the bag until Stanley proves to be a formidable paddle ball opponent. Part 2: Raven Baxter checks into the Tipton Hotel and has a vision that Zack is in danger of being attacked. Zack, now paranoid, avoids anything that remotely resembles Raven's "premonition" - even the surprise birthday party that he and Cody are throwing for Carey,. Meanwhile, Maddie is trying to help Raven by getting London to wear one of Raven's original designs, but London swears she'll never wear anything that's not from a real designer. London soon changes her tune when pop star Hannah Montana checks into the Tipton and asks Raven if she can wear one of her designs. Part 3: When Hannah Montana stays at the Tipton Hotel in Boston, she befriends candy counter Maddie who talks about the career Miley's father Robby had back in the day. Now, Miley believes that her dad gave up his dream to sing so that Miley could pursue her own career. To give him back the stage life, she recruits the help of his former manager to get Robby back on the road.  Part 1 also is part of the THAT'S SO RAVEN series in episode "Checkin' Out".  Part 2 is THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY "That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana", and Part 3 is HANNAH MONTANA "On the Road Again".

August 2006--THE CHEETAH GIRLS 2--The girl group return for more adventures, this time traveling to Spain to take part in a music festival.

November 2006--THAT'S SO RAVEN: PSYCHIC ON THE SCENE--Video game based on the show.

January 2007 to September 2008--CORY IN THE HOUSE--Spin-off of THAT'S SO RAVEN.  Corey's dad gets a job as a White House chef.  Because this series features fictional President Martinez, this entire series, and any other appearance of the Martinez family are relegated to the TVCU2.  However, appearances of Cory and his family on That's So Raven can still exist in the main TVCU timeline.  Who the president is give a lot of inconsistency, as in some shows (especially those that take place after 2008), it is Obama, while in others, it is someone unknown:
In one K.C. Undercover episode, K.C. had to protect the president's daughter, who doesn't look like anyone related to Obama. On I Didn't Do It, Betty asks if a man whom she believes is a Secret Service agent is protecting someone who's name rhymes with "Olama".In the earlier DCOS (ones before 2008), the President is the one from Cory in the House.[image error]
2007 to 2012--WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE--Centers on a family in New York City that owns a restaurant where, behind the scenes, the kids can do real magic.

2007--YAY ME! STARRING LONDON TIPTON--London Tipton gives fashion tips, receives guest stars and embarrasses her friends.

2007--Hannah Montana: Live in London--Miley Cyrus appears on stage as both herself and as Hannah Montana, thus allowing the TVCU to accept both the existence of real life Miley Cyrus and fictional Miley Stewart.

2007--
2007--Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert--A 3-D concert film of the 2007 Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus tour.

April 2007--CORY IN THE HOUSE--"Mall of Confusion"--Cory's sister Raven appears.

May 2007--HANNAH MONTANA--"My Best Friend's Boyfriend"--Larry David appears with his two children.  Since Curb Your Enthusiasm is in the TVCU, Larry's kids need some 'splaining, which Toby has O'Bviously already taken care of here.

June 2007--HANNAH MONTANA--"Take This Job and Love It"--President and Sophie Martinez appear, characters from CORY IN THE HOUSE.  Cory in the House is firmly part of the TVCU.  It is a spin-off of That's So Raven.  But it's a problem.  It not only features a fictional president and his family as regular characters, but also the first Latino president.  Since most of the TVCU does not recognize President Martinez, that poses a major contradiction.  Often, when fictional presidents appear, I recommend that these are merely replacements and that the actual president in office at the time was really involved in those events.  I may have to suggest that Corey in the House, and this episode, be relegated to the TVCU2.

CoryInTheHousecast.jpg

2007--ARWIN!--Centers on the character of Arwin the handyman, who moves in with his sister to take care of her kids.

July 2007--CORY IN THE HOUSE--"That's So in the House"--While visiting the White House to design new tour guide uniforms, Raven has a kooky accidental encounter with President Martinez. Posing as his sister, Cory tries to save the situation.

July 2007--WISH GONE AMISS WEEKEND--"Wish Gone Amiss Weekend" is a special event weekend that aired on Disney Channel on July 13, 2007. The event was made up of one episode from each Cory in the House, Hannah Montana, andThe Suite Life of Zack & Cody, in a similar fashion to that of That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana. However, unlike its predecessor, there was no crossover between the three shows. However, according to the television advertisements for the event, the characters in each show wished upon the same shooting star (apparently all simultaneously, simply in different parts of the country). This serves as a loose plot line connecting all three shows, as the characters must deal with the consequences of their granted wishes. Wish Gone Amiss Weekend first aired on the Disney Channel on July 13, 2007, and was advertised as a Friday the 13th special. On Friday, the Cory in the House episode, Gone Wishin, aired at 08:00 PM EDT, followed by the Hannah Montana episode, When You Wish You Were the Star at 08:30 PM EDT, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody episode, Super Twins, aired last at 09:00 PM EDT.

Summer 2007--HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2--During the summer vacations a talent show is organized in a local country club and Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad and Taylor take part in it.

c. March 9, 2008--WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE--"Little Sister"--The genie bears a striking resemblance to Jeannie.

2008--CAMP ROCK--At a music camp for gifted teens, a popular teen idol overhears a girl singing and sets out to find who the talented voice belongs to. What he doesn't know is that the girl is actually a camp kitchen worker with a fear of being heard.

August 3 to October 5, 2008--STUDIO DC:  ALMOST LIVE--Two Disney specials reviving the Muppet Show format and cast and loaded with Disney stars such as Selena GomezDemi LovatoJake T. AustinJason EarlesJason DolleyMoises AriasDavid Henrie and The Cheetah Girls.  This show features famous Disney stars, but also some fictional characters as well.  Crossovers include THE CHEETAH GIRLS, WENDY WU:  HOMECOMING WARRIOR, THE JONAS BROTHERS, THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACH AND CODY, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, and HANNAH MONTANA.  (Sorry, guys, I know this is even more painful than muppets.)

August 2008--THE CHEETAH GIRLS:  ONE WORLD--The girl group travel to India to star in a Bollywood movie - but end up competing for the same part.

October 2008--HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR--As seniors in high school, Troy and Gabriella struggle with the idea of being separated from one another as college approaches. Along with the rest of the Wildcats, they stage a spring musical to address their experiences, hopes and fears about their future.

December 2008--HANNAH MONTANA--"Killing Me Softly With His Height"--Santa appears.

2009 to 2010--JONAS--The show follows the Jonas Brothers through fun and unusual situations as they try to live ordinary lives. The series will also feature original Jonas Brothers songs created especially for the show. "JONAS" is set in the Jonas family's New Jersey home (a converted fire station on Jonas Street, the inspiration for their band's name) and at their private school, Horace Mantis Academy. Little brother Frankie also stars, and the family wouldn't be complete without The Big Man, the JONAS bodyguard.

2009 to 2011--SONNY WITH A CHANCE--Sonny, a talented Midwestern girl, has won a nationwide talent search to move to Los Angeles and star in a popular television series. Sonny's home and work life is documented along with her adjustment to life in the spotlight.

February 2009--HANNAH MONTANA--"You Gotta Lose This Job"--The dummy seen in this episode has also appeared in the Suite Life episode "Footloser" and a That's So Raven episode, "Out of Control".

February 2009--WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE--"Helping Hand"--The Wizard Patent Manager's name is Mr. Spellman

March 2009--SONNY WITH A CHANCE--"Three's Not Company"--Hannah Montana is mentioned as a real person.  Of course, Hannah Montana was the alter ego of Miley Stewart, but to the world at large, Hannah Montana was considered to be the true identity of the super-star performer.  Chad is the one who makes the reference.  Later, in "Sonny and the Studio Brat", Sonny references that Chad still thinks Miley and Hannah are separate people.  This could end up being a "zonk", since the Hannah Montana series is still ongoing at this time, and so the secret is still in place.  However, since there have been concerts in which Miley Cyrus has performed with Hannah Montana, and since Miley's last name isn't said in this episode, this could 'splain away the zonk.  (Terminologies lifted from Toby O'Brien.)

2009--HANNAH MONTANA:  THE MOVIE--As Hannah Montana's popularity begins to take over her life, Miley Stewart, on the urging from her father takes a trip to her hometown of Crowley Corners, Tennessee to get some perspective on what matters in life the most.

August 2009--WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE: THE MOVIE--Teenage wizard Alex casts a spell that accidentally changes history so her parents never fell in love. She and her brothers face a race against time to put things right before they are erased from existence.

September 2009--Wizards on Deck With Hannah Montana--A teen cruise to Hawaii on the S.S. Tipton sounds like every teenager's dream. So it's no surprise that Justin (Wizards of Waverly Place) entered an essay contest and won a trip for himself and his siblings, and that Miley Stewart and her best friend Lily (Hannah Montana) booked the cruise as transportation to Hawaii for Hannah Montana's concert appearance.  Interestingly enough for shows with little enough continuity, the characters from The Suite Life and Hannah Montana recalled the previous crossover.  The crossover spanned across episodes of  Wizards of Waverly Place The Suite Life on Deck , and  Hannah Montana .  Zack and Cody Martin, London Tipton, Bailey Pickett, and Marion Moseby from The Suite Life on Deck appeared on Wizards of Waverly Place Cast-Away (to Another Show) and Hannah Montana Super(stitious) Girl. Hannah Montana and Lola Luftnagle from Hannah Montana appeared on The Suite Life on Deck Double-Crossed.

September 2009--CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM--"Funkhouser's Crazy Sister"--Larry mentions Hannah Montana.

2010 to 2013--SHAKE IT UP!--Two Chicago teens attempt to realize their dream of becoming professional dancers by landing spots on a popular local show.

2010--SUMMER CAMP--Allegedly a 30 minute TV movie spin-off of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, according to IMDB.

2010--SCOOBY-DOO!  ABRACADABRA-DOO!--Velma's little sister is studying at a magic school that is dealing with a griffin.  The school is called the Whirlen Merlin Magic Academy.  The story states that Velma's sister (who must be much younger) is studying to be a stage magician, but have you ever heard of a posh academy for stage magicians?  I believe this is a real magic school.  In fact, I believe this is the magic school often seen on CHARMED and that is located in Salem.  They annually face Hogwarts and other schools in Quidditch matches.  Likely the WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE should be going here, but their parents choose to home school them on magic so they can attend public school.

2010--WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE--"Moving On"--Jerry mentions an old friend of his named Benjamin Kenobi. This is a reference to the character Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars, who at one point went by the cover name "Ben Kenobi".

August 2010--SONNY WITH A CHANCE--"That's So Sonny"--Besides the title reference, Amber's (Raven Symone) tendency to go uncover while portraying different characters is based off of Raven's character on That's So Raven, who would often use various disguises to deal with the comical situations caused by her psychic visions.

2010--CAMP ROCK 2: THE FINAL JAM--Mitchie can't wait to return to camp rock so that she and love-interest Shane can spend the summer making music and having fun with their friends and band mates. But when a rival camp, Camp Star, run by famous music producer Axel Turner opens across the lake, it causes many Camp Rock campers and counselors to ditch Camp Rock and join Camp Star. Mitchie finds herself too busy running the camp and preparing for the "Camp Wars" to have much fun, but Shane and friends help her open up and look on the bright side of summer. The Camp Rock gang spends the summer preparing for the dramatic battle of the bands; while still maintaining to have fun.

September 2010--PAIR OF KINGS--"No Kings Allowed"--Brady tells Boomer that in the (blonde) wig that he is wearing "you could be a world famous teenage singing sensation with that wig on and I wouldn't recognize you...even if I was your best friend." Mitchell Musso, the actor who plays Brady, played Oliver on Hannah Montana and Oliver is unable to recognize Miley Stewart, his best friend, as world famous teenage singing sensation Hannah Montana.

September 2010--SUITE LIFE ON DECK--"Trouble in Tokyo"--Hashimoto, who appeared in the Suite Life On Deck episode Trouble in Tokyo becomes a recurring character in A.N.T. Farm

2010--HANNAH MANTEGNA--The series "Hannah Mantegna" is a supposed to be a spin-off series

October 2010--I'M IN THE BAND--"Weasels on Deck"--The cast of  The Suite Life on Deck  guest starred on an episode of  I'm in the Band . Iron Weasel's plans to set out to board the SS Tipton to perform become tricky.

October 2010--DISNEY CHANNEL ALL-STAR PARTY--A Karaoke dance party competition with Phineas and Ferb; Joe, Kevin and Nick Lucas (JONAS L.A.); Sonny Munroe (SONNY WITH A CHANCE); Alex Russo (WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE); HANNAH MONTANA; Zack and Cody Martin (SUITE LIFE ON DECK); Mitchie Torres (CAMP ROCK film series); and Mii (that generic Wii character, bringing him actually into the TVCU!!!)

December 2010--WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE--"Dancing with Angels"--When Tina becomes a full guardian angel, Rosie rings a bell and Tina gets her wings.

2011 to Present--SO RANDOM!--The spin-off to Sonny with a Chance, So Random! is a musical sketch comedy continuing some of the sketches on the original show while introducing new sketches with a new repertory cast.

2011 to 2014--A.N.T. FARM--A musical prodigy, gets into a gifted program called Advanced Natural Talents at the local high school.

2011 to 2015--JESSIE--The butler from Jessie has Famous Butlers of History trading cards. One that is mentioned is his rare 1928 Jeeves. I'm certain this is a reference to P.G. Wodehouse's famous character. Since these are famous butlers from history, not fiction, this should imply Jeeves is a real person in the world of Jessie.

2011 to Present--AUSTIN & ALLY--Following the lives of Austin, an aspiring confident musician, Ally, a quiet talented songwriter and their two friends.

March 2011--THE SUITE LIFE MOVIE--A doctor approaches Zack and Cody and tells them that they would be ideal for the Gemini Project, a massive project studying the effects of twins.

June 2011--GOOD LUCK CHARLIE--"Charlie Shakes It Up"-- Good Luck Charlie  had a crossover with  Shake It Up  titled "Charlie Shakes It Up". The crossover aired on June 5, 2011.[2][3] In the episode, Teddy, Amy, and Charlie visit Chicago and are accidentally taken to the set of Shake It Up Chicago, where they are mistaken as the Duncan sisters, a pair of dancers.

October 2011--SO RANDOM!--"Miss Piggy"--Miss Piggy is the guest host on the fictional sketch comedy show called So Random!, which is part of the actual show also called So Random!

February 2012--JESSIE--"The Princess and the Pea Brain"--Bertram--the Ross family butler--will be speaking at his club's roast of Alfred Pennyworth. It's easy to imagine Bertram and Alfred are members of the American branch of the Junior Ganymede Club, the primer club for gentlemens' gentlemen.

June 2012--JESSIE--"Tempest in a Teacup"--From our James Bojaciuk:  Everyone gets trapped in a giant cup of Tipton Tea. The Tiptons are from Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Suite Life on Deck.

2012--MADISON HIGH--At "Madison High", the students embark on a journey of self discovery while trying to build a revolutionary theatre program under the tutelage of Ms. Darbus.

September 2012--QI--"Jargon"--Jimmy Carr suggests Hannah Montana was the first person to say "OMG".

November 2012--JESSIE--"Make New Friends, But Hide the Old"--James says:  During spring break, I've done virtually nothing but watch Jessie marathons on the Disney Channel. This is a problem.
In the episode "Make New Friends But Hide the Old," idiot 13 year old Emma believes the Bronx, Narnia, and Staten Island. To make Rob happy, they play a Phineas and Ferb music video every break, which shows Jessie dancing alongside Perry. There's no way to work this as a crossover, most likely, but the Taylor Lautner stand-in sneaks around New York as the apparently homeless Rufus T. Firefly.
December 31, 2012 to January 1, 2013--AUSTIN & JESSIE & ALLY ALL STAR NEW YEAR-- Austin & Ally  and  Jessie  had a combined special episode of both shows titled Austin & Jessie & Ally All Star New Year! that aired December 7, 2012. In the episode, Austin, Ally, Trish and Dez travel to Times Square where Austin is booked to perform on New Year's Eve. When they can't get through New York City's crowded streets, Jessie comes up with a plan to get them to the stage and to ultimately have Austin record one of her songs.

2013--BITS AND PIECES--This show aired with a different title. That title is Liv and Maddie.

2013 to Present--LIV AND MADDIE--Liv, a popular television star whose show has just finished its run, and Maddie, an outstanding student and school basketball star whose popularity is on the rise until Liv makes a return to their high school.

March 2013--THE WIZARDS RETURN: ALEX VS. ALEX--While visiting Tuscany, Italy, a young wizard accidentally creates an evil version of herself.

April 2013--GOOD LUCK CHARLIE--Hi-ho! The Muppets perform an original song when they appear on Good Luck Charlie! on Disney Channel.  They also appeared on So Random.

June 2013--A.N.T. FARM--"IndepenANTs"--The Z-Phone (first seen on Hannah Montana) is referenced. Tom Choi guest stars as Mr. Hashimoto, the owner of Hashimoto Soda, as seen on The Suite Life on Deck.

June 2013--JESSIE--"Punched Dumped Love"--From Toby O'Brien: Trapped as I am with my 8 year old nephew, I just watched an episode of "Jessie". They commented that nobody would like Luke's Superman underwear.... Not even Lois Lane. Plus Adam Sandler was in it as himself.

September 2013--LIV AND MADDIE--"Steal-A-Rooney"--The Z-Phone was first mentioned and seen in Hannah Montana, and was later expanded upon in A.N.T.

December 2013--GOOD LUCK CHARLIE--"Good Luck Jessie:  NYC Christmas"--In the crossover episode, Teddy and PJ travel to New York City to tour a university, but a blizzard prevents their return home in time for Christmas. After meeting Jessie on the subway, they embark on a Ross family holiday like no other. Back in Denver, Bob takes the Duncan kids to meet Santa, but Gabe is not in the holiday spirit.

Girl Meets World

2014 to Present--GIRL MEETS WORLD--SPIN-OFF OF BOY MEETS WORLD!!!  A decade after "Boy Meets World," Cory and Topanga Matthews are married and have two children. The younger child, a daughter named Riley, faces life lessons through her family, friends, and school, as her parents did when they were younger.  See my TGIF blog post for more on Boy Meets World and its other crossover connections.

October 31, 2014--ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN--"Halloween Night at the Museum"--Jessie takes the kids to the museum on Halloween night, where she and the kids end up helping Spider-Man take on a resurrected Morgaine le Fay with Excalibur.  Since Jessie is in the TVCU, we should assume for TVCU purposes that this is not the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, but rather a later hero to carry on the legacy.  Check out episode 2 of our podcast (link in the right hand column of this page) where we talk more about this crossover.

December 2014--JESSIE--"Jessie's Aloha Holidays with Parker and Joey"--This is a crossover episode of  Jessie  with two  Liv and Maddie  characters.

Some final notes:

Click here for a list of all of the Disney Channel series. Note that not all of them made connected here, though some of them are still part of the TVCU through other connections that may or may not have already been covered on this website.

And a note on internet sources. I use internet sources. I try to verify those sources when possible. And sometimes I post something that later turns out to be false and I have to remove it. In this case, I was able to check on something I read on the internet and found it was completely false. According to IMDB, in ATOP THE FOURTH WALL episode "Law and Order # 1", there is a reference to "Hannah Montana: The E! True Hollywood Story."  I watched the whole thing, including the credits.  I did not hear or see any reference to this.  So don't believe everything you read on the internet.  If anyone wants to double check, you can find it on YouTube hear.  Maybe I just missed the reference.  But I watched it closely twice.

I had a lot of fun writing this.  I didn't think I would.  But it turned out that there was a lot of crossovers, and I had to do a lot of research.  It's been a while since I've tackled research heavy TV crossovers, which is what this post is about.  So I was glad to get back into it.

War of the Worlds 1938

This blog post is about the crossovers related to the 1938 radio adaptation of War of the Worlds, narrated by Orson Wells, which caused a panic.

GLIMMERGLASS: THE CREATIVE WRITER’S ANNUAL, VOLUME 1 “THE BEAST” (STORY BY JOHN SMALL)Release Date: October 15, 2009 (Setting is 1700s to Contemporary Times)Series: King Kong (Original)Horror Crosses: King Kong (2005 remake); War of the Worlds (novel); War of the Worlds (radio); The Mummy (remake film series); Jurassic Park (film series); Kong: the Animated Series; Jurassic Park (novel)Non-Horror Crosses: Buckaroo Banzai; Tarzan; Flash Gordon; Tales of the Gold Monkey; Journey to the Center of the Earth; Tales of the Shadowmen; Doc Savage; Indiana Jones; Mighty Joe Young; A-Team; Fu ManchuThe Story: Author John Small discovers that the film King Kong was based on true events and gathers research on the true events of the film and the follow-up events that have happened since.
Notes: John Small uses a popular Farmerian method (named for Philip Jose Farmer) in which he places himself in the world of fiction, imagining that fictional stories are based on true events.

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS (NOVEL BY H.G. WELLS)Release Date: 1898 (Contemporary Setting)Series: War of the WorldsThe Story: Aliens from outer space invade Earth. Eventually, they are defeated, due to their lack of immunities to Earth disease.
Notes: This novel is brought in by many crossovers, as you’ll see in later entries. Though it’s an alien invasion tale, the style of the story also makes it into the horror genre. I know it may be hard to swallow that a world that was invaded by aliens could be the same world of later 20th century horror stories where most of the world believes anything paranormal isn’t real, but the 1980s television series War of the Worlds addresses how the events of the novel, the 1930s radio broadcast, and the 1950s film were all real events in the same shared universe that were covered up and kept from the public.

SUPERMAN: WAR OF THE WORLDS (DC COMICS)Release Date: 1999 (Setting is 1938)Series: Superman (Golden Age)Horror Crosses: War of the Worlds (radio)The Story: When the Martians invade, it’s a job for Superman!Notes: This has to be a divergent reality. It ends with the death of Superman and Lois marrying Luthor, as well as major alterations to the entire global political structure and history. In the main Horror Universe timeline, Superman does indeed battle the Martians during the 1938 invasion, as seen in It’s That Time Again: More Stories of Old Time Radio.
IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN 3: EVEN MORE NEW STORIES OF OLD-TIME RADIO “WAR BETWEEN TWO WORLDS” (SHORT STORY BY RICKY LOUIS PHILLIPS)Release Date: 2006 (Setting is October 30, 1938, during the events of the War of the Worlds radio broadcast)Series: Superman; War of the Worlds (radio)The Story: During the second Martian invasion, a “man of action” fights of the invaders.Notes: The first invasion was told in the 1898 novel version of War of the Worlds. The 1980s War of the Worlds television series ties together the novel, radio broadcast, and 1950s film as having been three previous invasion attempts. The “man of action” has the described characteristics of Superman. The “man of action” is a clue, as Superman debuted in Action Comics # 1. This should be the golden age version of Superman from the comics. But since this anthology is about stories featuring old time radio characters, we should assume this to be the radio version of the hero. This isn’t a contradiction, as a 1980s story in DC Comics’ World’s Finest Comics shows the original Superman of the golden age talking with the original Robin (Dick Grayson) of the golden age about an adventure they had once that was originally portrayed on the radio show. Thus we can assume that the golden age version of Superman from the comics is the radio show version, and that he exists in the Horror Universe, along with all versions of the War of the Worlds up to the 1980s television series.

VINELAND (NOVEL BY THOMAS PYNCHON)Release Date: 1990 (Setting is the 1960s and 1984)Horror Crosses: War of the Worlds (Radio)Non-Horror Crosses: Buckaroo BanzaiThe Story: The story of a hippy commune being threatened by the government.Notes: Ramon Raquello, the orchestra leader from the radio version of War of the Worlds is mentioned, and a band appears called Eddie Enrico and his Hong Kong Hotshots, which is actually meant to be Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers, minus the infringement of intellectual property, of course.

MARS ATTACKS THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS (IDW)Release Date: January 16, 2013 (Setting is 1988, during the run of the Now Comics Real Ghostbusters series)Series: Mars Attacks; GhostbustersHorror Crosses: Zombies vs. Robots; Chew; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; War of the Worlds (radio)Non-Horror Crosses: Popeye; KISS; Transformers; Miss Fury; Opus; Judge Dredd; Star Slammers; Madman; Strangers in Paradise; Rog-2000; Cerebus; RomThe Story: The Ghostbusters travel to Grover’s Mill, New Jersey to bust the ghosts of the Martians from the 1938 invasion, and encounter a different group of Martians.Notes: The IDW Real Ghostbusters seems to be set in the late 1980s based on most evidence. This story was part of a major company wide crossover, but unlike DC or Marvel, IDW has mostly licensed properties. Rather than have them coexist, they have one story take place over a range of dimensions. Thus, the Ghostbusters and War of the Worlds links are both to the Horror Universe, but all the other above listed crosses come from alternate realities in the Horror Multiverse. The premise is that these Martians invaded a series of realities. Note that of the above, only Ghostbusters, Zombies vs. Robots, Popeye, Kiss and Transformers actually had comic stories published. The other crossovers come from extra covers that had no accompanying stories, but were still considered to be valid parts of the overall invasion. The Buffy cross comes from one of those covers, for Mars Attacks Spike. This is a cross with the divergent Season 8 timeline.

Twin Peaks

TWIN PEAKS (TELEVISION SERIES)Release Date: April 8, 1990 - June 10, 1999 (Setting is February - March 1989)Series: Twin PeaksThe Story: The murder of a high school homecoming queen brings eccentric FBI agent Dale Cooper to Twin Peaks, Washington to investigate.Notes: This bizarre, surreal cult classic lasted two seasons and was followed by a prequel film. This series has been referenced as fictional, paid homage to, and spoofed numerous times in films and on other television series.

SEASON 2 EPISODE 10 “THE MAN BEHIND GLASS”Release Date: October 13, 1990 (Setting is March 5, 1989)Non-Horror Crosses: James BondThe Story: Laura Palmer’s diary is found, and Dr. Jacoby is hypnotized, leading to an arrest. Meanwhile, Agent Cooper is recovering from a gunshot wound.Notes: Another FBI agent informs Cooper that he was shot with the same gun used by James Bond. In situations of comments like this, I could interpret it two ways. So I must analyze the overall Horror Universe context. This could be interpreted as a pop culture reference, where the agent is speaking of a fictional character from novels and movies. However, James Bond has been demonstrated to exist as a real person in the Horror Universe by other crossovers within this guide. Because of that, and because Bond is a government agent of repute, and being discussed by another nation’s government agent, I feel that I can take the liberty to take this as a reference to another person that exists in the same reality rather than a pop culture reference.

SEASON 2 EPISODE 18 “MASKED BALL”Release Date: December 15, 1990 (Setting is March 19, 1989)Horror Crosses: Jimgrim; ZanoniThe Story: Cooper finds himself under investigation by the FBI and DEA for his unorthodox methods.
Notes: The White and Black Lodges are mentioned in the story. The White and Black Lodges originated from the Jimgrim story The Devil’s Guard by Talbot Mundy. Jimgrim is brought in via a Tales of the Shadowmen story and so this cross now brings Twin Peaks into the Horror Universe. Also mentioned is the Dweller on the Threshold, who is from Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s Zanoni. Thus, that 1842 story of love and the occult is also brought into the Horror Universe.
December 2009--FRINGE--"The Firefly"--Click here.  Fringe crosses with TWIN PEAKS as we learn that Dr. Walter Bishop is friends with Dr. Lawrence Jacoby.

December 2010--PSYCH--"Dual Spires"--Since I know little about either shows in this crossover, I will turn it over to two of my expert cohorts.  Click here to read what both Toby O'Brien and Sean Lee Levin have to say about the Psych/Twin Peaks crossover.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UNCANNY (NOVEL BY SIMON R. GREEN)Release Date: December 28, 2010 (Contemporary Setting, about a month after Just Another Judgement Day)Series: NightsideHorror Crosses: Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde; War of the Worlds (novel); Twin Peaks; The Monkey’s Paw; Carnacki Ghost Finder; Ghost Finders; Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos; Rocky Horror Picture Show!Non-Horror Crosses: Deathstalker; Allan Quatermain; Shadows Fall; Secret Histories; Solomon Kane; Indiana Jones; The Mysterious Wu Fang; the Continental Op; The Coming Race; Captain America; Spider-ManThe Story: John Taylor is hired to escort an elf through the Nightside. Notes: At a drug den, two users of the Hyde formula are fighting for sport. Previous Nightside stories have established the Hyde formula to now be a street drug, and other stories that take place in the Horror Universe outside the Nightside have also established this. Jacqueline Jekyll appears again. She has appeared or has been mentioned in previous Nightside stories. Another drug is Martian Red Weed (from War of the Worlds). This drug has been seen in other Nightside stories. There is some dialogue in the story that suggests that the Nightside exists in the same reality as Twin Peaks. There is “A Hand of Glory”, similar to The Monkey’s Paw. Another character mentions the Carnacki Institute, which is from Green’s Ghost Finders series, a spin-off of the Carnacki Ghost Finder stories. The Collector has stuffed giant albino penguins (as in Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness). He also has a grandfather clock with a cobweb covered skeleton inside, just as the one in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. This story brings the Rocky Horror Picture Show into the Horror Universe. Likely, the musical demon known by some as Mr. Sweet, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode “Once More With Feeling”, must have been behind the scenes of those events. At the drug den, there is a street drug called Blood. This is a drug from the futuristic Deathwalker series also by Green. Another drug is taduku, which was used by Allan Quatermain. The elf’s destination is Shadows Fall. There are several references to Green’s Secret Histories. Green is one of the great crossover writers who likes to remind us that all of his series are in the same shared reality. Salvation Kane is mentioned again, clearly a pseudonym for Solomon Kane. Larry Oblivion states that he wants to be the Nightside’s Indiana Jones. Though this sounds like a pop culture reference, considering all the crossovers in the Nightside series, I’m assuming it to be a reference to a real person. There is a gambling den run by Wu Fang, once a famous villain of the pulps. This story features the family of Dash Oblivion, better known as the pulp hero called the Continental Op. He is said to have fought villains like Wu Fang, Vril Inc. (a reference to the Coming Race), and the Nazi Skull (likely meaning the Red Skull, foe of Captain America). The Collector mentions having regrown his leg much in the same way as Spider-Man’s foe, the Lizard. By now, I shouldn’t have to explain how comic book super-heroes work in the Horror Universe, but if you’re still not clear, go back to the first page and start over.

John Small with Jay Paul Gumm.April 24, 2012This is a graphic I created for fun a few years back to illustrate an article I'd actually written several years earlier regarding Star Trek's Eugenics Wars. I wrote the article before the first in Greg Cox's trilogy of Khan novels saw publication, but was gratified to learn that my meager effort and Cox's work did not necessarily contradict one another. If you are interested, my article is posted at Win Eckert's Wold Newton Universe site:http://www.pjfarmer.com/woldnewton/Spock.htm#EUGENICS.
