College, Day Two
(This is copied from a post in my group at sff.net, and I was unable to make an LJ cut in it.)
They arrived on time but the first class (transition to college, ironically, which had in its handouts "Don't be late, don't miss class" warnings) had been canceled.
R- coached M- through how to ask the math prof for help on two things (that neither of them had figured out with the online homework) and then M- went alone and did the actual asking (YAY!!!) and got answers (YAY!!!) and was able t...

11:55:12: Zero sleep last night. Not a good start for the day. But propane truck came, yay! Bread dough rising, yay! Jaw pain, boo!
14:01:04: Bread's almost done. Smells wonderful. Take it out, then take nap before driving to city to meet family.

Writer's Block: A rose by any other name ...
How did you choose your LiveJournal username? Is there an interesting story behind it?

I wanted to use my own name, but--being on dial-up at the time with a slow and sometimes wonky connection--could never get LJ to accept the complete registration, but apparently it was sidetracking whatever name I tried with, starting with my full name. So when the attempt to join/register failed, and I tried again, my name was suddenly "unavailable." This ...

Day Two (of classes, that is)
Husband and son headed off in the predawn dimness to catch the bus to catch the other bus to get to campus in time for son's first class. Yesterday husband got son set up on husband's computer (because son doesn't have broadband and ACC requires broadband for access to some course requirements, like online homework and quiz assignments. Son did two of the five sections of math homework he has to do by Saturday night, and then switched to the class whose name I can never recall, but which ...

Podcast
Graphic Audio, the folks doing the audiobook version of the Vatta's War books, did an interview with me sometime back, and it's now up online as a podcast at their site, along with the first hour of Trading in Danger.
Take a listen at www.graphicaudio.net
I really enjoyed the interview, by the way, and my interviewer was kind enough to say the same. We did end up chatting about choral music, having both sung in good choirs and some of the same music.

80 Acres: Annual Report
Every year the annual wildlife management report to the county tax appraisal district eats my time and my brain for several weeks. County tax appraisal districts are required to require (yup, that's right) landowners doing wildlife management to use a form designed by the state parks & wildlife department, which form was approved by the legislature and thus can't be changed without risking the whole program going through the lege again. If you know about the Texas lege, you know why our...
