Recovering a voice

I've embarked on the adventure of discovering/recovering a voice--the voice I had forgotten I had, the one I used to sing with as a child.

This journey began last summer, when our choir director announced (to my utter astonishment) that I was not, in fact, a natural alto, but a mezzo.   (I had to look up what that was...and it meant that the way I sang as a young girl--untrained and unaware of the differences in various voices--was in fact that kind of voice, with a lot more range at the top e...

08:35:53: 'Course, now I need a Title for Book 2. (Staring at blankness of mind.)
22:06:50: Found tiny aromatic herb in field that I couldn't ID. Maybe Prairie Brazoria? It's a mint-family something, green/purple leaves.
22:07:39: Hacked around in upper dry woods--never easy up there. Found bumelias with leaves still on, and maybe cochineal on cactus. Need guide.

Monday: Sunshine, Chores, Walk

Monday morning: alarm went off early, because R- and M- were leaving to scout the bus routes to ACC (and pick up M-'s disability pass.)   It was clear, cold, and windy.   I pottered about, checking to make sure Editor had received the manuscript emailed last night (yes) and had breakfast, made a business call to South Texas to arrange for having a new roof put on a building down there, wrote a check to deal with that, and realized (a good thing!) that I hadn't yet paid the property taxes on t...

09:07:20: All day yesterday working...four (or is it five?) chapters to go.
11:20:50: Discovered yet another unsuspected tangle in C-33 which will now become three untangled chapters.
12:52:49: One of those days when I feel like the least competent writer in the universe, and this book is driving me nuts.
18:09:11: If your brain dithers between characters "have" and characters "are" you can end up with characters "hare." Snicker.
23:51:49: Book 2 is off to Agent & Editor again, hurray! And I...

Sunday: nose still on the grindstone

Sunday began early but without a headache (hurray!) and I staggered in and got to work, thinking "Only a few chapters to do; maybe I'll be done in time to take an afternoon nap."

As if.    Instead, here I am, still working.  Four hours to midnight, when (she mutters under her breath) she WILL email this monster off to Editor, no matter what.   Why this hostile attitude?

First, this book is no longer 33 chapters.   I thought it would come out to 33 chapters.  No, it's thirty-flippin'-nine...

10:15:50: Chapter 19 finally (!) untangled and smooth. Now up to C-23--"only" 11 chapters to go.

Stupid Sinuses

Headache all night.   Almost drifted off a couple of times and then it would get me again.  Blecch.  On the other hand, being awake for hours and unwilling to turn on the light until abut 3 am (moonlight was already hurting my eyes but not bright enough to read by)  gave plenty of time to think about revisions and work to do once I could face the computer again.  There are advantages to most things, if you can only figure out what they are.  (Nonetheless, I'd have preferred the clearer head t...
