Celebrating an award!

This was a red-letter week for me as an author!

Not only did my book, Peripheral Visions and Other Stories, get two fabulous reviews, but it was also named a Bronze award winner in the Foreword INDIES competition!

I have to tell you--good news like this is often in short supply for authors. Mostly, we write, then publish, then hope someone buys our book and reads it and likes it and maybe writes something on social media about it.

So when major things happen like a fab editorial review or a book award, we almost have to pinch ourselves to make sure it's true!

And in this case, it is! Peripheral Visions and Other Stories by Nancy Christie

My Thoughts On… On Writing by George V. Higgins

On Writing by George V. HigginsThere is no such thing as too many books on writing—or more specifically, on being a writer.

Yes, there are countless books on grammar, style and punctuation. Books on words: antonyms, synonyms, definitions. Books on book writing, book publishing and book marketing. (I have written two myself!)

And after a certain point, when you’re standing in front of a real or virtual selection of books on the craft, you might ask yourself, Do I really need another one?

If one of your choices happens to be On...

Weekend Writing Prompt for 6.12.21

“Visit to the office.”

Write the middle of the story, using the provided beginning and conclusion.

[Opening] The appointment was for 1:30 in the afternoon, but he arrived fifteen minutes early, afraid that he might be delayed and miss his chance. The outer room was empty: no receptionist, no waiting clients. And the door that led to the executive office was ajar. He shifted his case to his left hand and went toward the open door…

[closing] He gently opened the door and peered into the waiting room. Still empty. So far, everything had gone according to plan. He took a deep breath, crossed to the exit door and left.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What happened between the time he entered the inner office and left?
My Review of Summer Hours at the Robbers Library by Sue Halpern
Summer Hours at the Robbers Library Summer Hours at the Robbers Library by Sue Halpern
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved this book!
Summer Hours at the Robbers Library is a love story, but not the conventional girl-meets-boy-and-they-live-happily ever-after. It’s a love story about accepting oneself and loving oneself. It’s about accepting the frailties of others that we love, and even though we know they have failed us, loving them anyway.
And it’s even about being willing to love people who came into our lives—unexpectedly, unbidden—even though there is no guarantee of a happily ever after. But there might be—and that is what makes Summer Hours at the Robbers Library such a magical, wonderful read.
It offers hope that things will work out if you just take that leap of faith or open that door or, at the very least, stand still long enough so happiness can find you.
Read my full review at Focus on Fiction, then get a copy and dive in. You won't regret it!
