Troubadours of the Apocalypse
In my career as an academic/scholarly writer, it's good to do academic book reviews for journals. I had my first opportunity last year when I reviewed Drawn and Dangerous by Simone Castaldi for the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics under Taylor and Francis.
An opporuntiy came up at Heathen Harvest recently to do an article that was more than a music review, but a book review: the edited anthology of Troubadours of the Apocalypse.
Though Heathen Harvest isn't an academic journal, I approached my review as if it was one, and the results - I think - are REALLY good. I am very proud of this write up.
There is not much written on the neo-folk scene, and this book continues that trend of... well.. not doing much. I do a nice deep dive into it. I hope yall check it out!

KMFDM (sucks!), CHANT and Ravens Moreland
Good evening everyone!
Last month Michele and I got to see KMFDM perform here in LA, except this time we were on official business - we were press for Heathen Harvest! We even got cool press badges and everything!
KMFDM has been one of my favourite bands since at least 1998. I love their early stuff, their new stuff - more like 50-50. I was excited to see my hero band perform again, since the last I saw them was in 2011 and they had sound difficulties.
..... and this time they did too! DOH!
Ah well.
I did get to discover two new bands who were great, Ravens Moreland and CHANT. They were the opening acts, and I enjoyed them immensely.
Anywho, check out the document of the event here:
http://heathenharvest.org/2015/08/26/live-report-kmfdm-chant-ravens-moreland-in-los-angeles/
In writing news, I continue to research and write my essay for Michele's book, which - the abstacts had to be turned in today!
Also, I submitted a story for Chicken Soup for the Soul. Hey! Why not?

Hidden Place - Retrospettiva: 2004 - 2014
Hello gang!
Work progresses on my next academic essay on Meteor-horror films. I'm really excited about this essay. I've got one more film to watch, the German Die Farbe film.
In the mean time, as I work to get more familiar with neofolk artists, I keep plugging reviews and interviews at Heathen Harvest. I just had a new review go up today, on a best of album for the Italian synthpop group Hidden Place. One of my favourite neo-new wave bands.
Check it out!

Ostara Concert Review, HP Lovecast, Birthday!
Hello everyone!
Last weekend was my birthday, and it was a great time! Michele and I along with our friend Dennis from Germany went to the Nixon Museum and then had Chicago style Deep dish pizza. Dennis got me an autographed picture of Richard Harrison! It was great!
Some quick project things.
First, I've been working on my next essay - untitled so far - about meteor-horror films. I've past the 500 word count. It's slow, but I've got alot of movies to watch for reference for it.
I had a concert report published at Heathen Harvest. A month or so ago we saw Richard Leviathan/Ostara perform an acoustic show in Los Angeles, and I was there to do a write up while Michele did photography. You can read the essay here:
http://heathenharvest.org/2015/06/26/live-report-ostara-richard-leviathan-in-los-angeles/
Next, earlier today Michele, Adam Crowley and Jule Schlag recorded our 3rd podcast for HP Lovecast. This time we talked about Herbert West: Re-Animator. That can be heard here at youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=klMxgemAjRU&app=desktop
We are going to look at getting the audio off youtube and into other platforms.
Finally, Jule of our podcast has started a blog about our adventures into HP Lovecraft, and I will be a contributing writer there. So please, check that out too:
http://somemoreweirdtales.blogspot.com/
So, lots of projects, a great time to be busy!
