In my career as an academic/scholarly writer, it's good to do academic book reviews for journals. I had my first opportunity last year when I reviewed
Drawn and Dangerous by Simone Castaldi for the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics under Taylor and Francis.
An opporuntiy came up at Heathen Harvest recently to do an article that was more than a music review, but a book review: the edited anthology of
Troubadours of the Apocalypse.
Though Heathen Harvest isn't an academic journal, I approached my review as if it was one, and the results - I think - are REALLY good. I am very proud of this write up.
There is not much written on the neo-folk scene, and this book continues that trend of... well.. not doing much. I do a nice deep dive into it. I hope yall check it out!
