Little cars=big fun

As an avid collector of Hot Wheels toy cars, this is how I wanted reality to be as a kid.
And this would have been my ultimate possession.

Artist Chris Burden has tapped into every toy car lover's dreams with his amazing kinetic sculpture Metropolis II. This astonishing mechanical tribute to tiny, hot wheels is nearing completion at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Here's a sneak peek!

Dream shack

Here in the glorious days of midsummer I find myself longing for my dream house … a cozy shack by the sea.

This is where I would loll all day on the warm sand in between taking hourly dips in the cold frothy Pacific. Of course, I couldn't avoid civilization altogether. I'd need a car to get to the grocery store and back.

Every morning I would wake up to this.

Every sundown I would marvel at this.

And all night long I would dream under the stars.

Sigh. Oh well! Until I can make my endless summer dream come true, I can always

Happy Fourth of July!

Today is America's primo, el grande celebration, an occasion traditionally marked by pyrotechnics extravaganzas.
Some people are averse to the loud bangs of fireworks displays. Most dogs are. No need to plug your ears or hide under the bed! Here are some SILENT spectacular explosions of light and color, brought to you by Google image search. Happy birthday, USA!

Ooh! Ahh! (silent clapping)

Is this the Grand Finale?

No! They always fool you that way. THIS IS THE GRAND FINALE!

Whew. That was glorious. Now it's time to pick up our picnic blanket and collect our trash and head home for a night full of colorful dreams.

We have a winner!

Let's face it. Dad has won for "Best Dad" once again this year! Let's give him something to show for it today on Father's Day.
Anyone can make this awesome trophy for the big guy.
What you'll need:

2 foam coffee cups

5 inch square box (or one cut to size)

Masking tape

2 gold or brown pipe cleaners

Gold craft paint

Black construction paper, cut to fit on side of box

White paint pen

Scissors

Paintbrush

White craft glue

How to make it:

Turn cups upside down and trim bottom lips to make them flush.

Glue the bottoms of the two cups together.

Tape the square box shut by covering the entire box with masking tape.

When glue on the cups has dried, wrap a piece of masking tape around the middle where the two cups meet.

Cut the pipe cleaners to size and insert into each side of one of the cups as trophy handles.

Cover cups completely with masking tape.

Paint masking tape on both the trophy and the box gold. Let dry.

Write "Awarded World's Best Dad" on the black construction paper with white paint pen. Glue to the front of the box.

Pipe white glue onto the bottom of the cup that does not have the pipe cleaner handles. Press onto the top of the box and let glue dry completely.

Tips:

Fill the trophy cup with Dad's favorite candy.

Paper cups can be used instead of foam.

Use boxes from crackers, cereal bars, and convenience foods for projects like this one.

Muggle Quidditch summer camp, please!

Snooze.
Yawn.
NOW WE'RE TALKING!
"Muggle Quidditch," or "Ground Quidditch," began in 2005 as an intramural league at Middlebury College in Vermont. The rules were adapted from JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels by Alexander Manshel, the first Quidditch Commissioner.
Since then the IQA has helped students from more than 400 colleges and 300 high schools form teams. The IQA serves to promote Quidditch as a new sport and lead outreach programs to increase athletic participation among children and young adults and bring magic to communities.
Learn more about it here!

This picture tells many stories

(I would love to link to the source of this pic, and to the site of the Russian original, but there is some  graffiti in the source image that is inappropriate for the American MG audience. I scrubbed the wall with Photoshop!)
