Stephen and Callum=wolf brothers
On the May 11 episode of The Colbert Report, America's most patriotic pundit Stephen Colbert revealed that he had been raised by a North American Gray Wolf named Lucan.
Stephen and Callum from THE BOY WHO HOWLED share a lot in common, perhaps even a taste for raw spleen and pancreas. Wolf brothers for the win!

Happy Mother's Day!
American-born painter James McNeill Whistler painted this portrait of his mother in 1871. Nothing says "I love you, Mom!" better than painting a masterpiece of her! You know Whistler's mom is waiting for the breakfast tray to arrive, with pancakes AND waffles and a flower in a little vase.
THE BOY WHO HOWLED is dedicated to all moms everywhere. Happy Mother's Day, all!

Bunny ears for all!
In last year's Easter post, we learned of the special challenges faced by Matt Bunny, whose dad is the Easter Bunny. This year, it is time to celebrate the Bunny himself with a parade in his honor.
Starting us off are these lovely ladies, decked out in holiday finery. They have donned their dress-up webbed feet for the occasion.
And now, channeling the glory and mystery that is one with the Easter Rabbit …
But MY favorite tribute to Mr. E. Bunny is the kind you can eat … an Easter Bunny cake!

Dream central
How many kids (and adults) lay in bed at night and imagine their bedroom is something a little more adventurous than plain old four walls and a ceiling?
One lucky kid in Minnesota can hardly wait to hear his mom or dad say, "Go to your room!" And that's because designer Steve Kuhl transformed his bedroom into a pirate's lair.
Additional pictures and more of the story can be found at mymodernmet.com.

Enter only if you are sure a pirate's life is for you.
Is that pirate ship floating in the air, or are you under water?
That's not a kid going up the gangway ... but can you blame him?
A very cool place for a pirate to chill out.

Thank you, Diana Wynne Jones
Writer Diana Wynne Jones said goodbye to our earthly realm today.
She was the author of HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE, one of my absolute favorite books of all time. I discovered it as an adult. I wish I had read it when I was a kid, because I would have no doubt read all her other books by now!
As it is, I have the great blessing to catch up now.

Mathemagician
Indiana's Jake Barnett is a 12-year-old who knows his way around numbers. Maybe that's because he has an IQ (intelligence quotient) of 170—ten points higher than world-famous genius Albert Einstein, who clocked in on the brain scale at 160.
Jake, who was diagnosed with Asberger's syndrome as a toddler (a form of autism), was solving 5,000-piece puzzles at age 3, and later taught himself calculus, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry in a single week!
He's currently attending advanced astrophysics classes at Purdue University in Indianapolis, where he is working on an expanded version of Einstein's famous theory of relativity. Good luck, Jake!
Here's Jake explaining a simple little something called techniques of integration in Calculus 2. Follow along, everybody!

Wintry wonder
Winter is on the way out, despite what Mother Nature might want some people to believe.
In many parts of the country, snow is still THE THING … but not for long.
One enterprising parent in South Lake Tahoe, CA spent 80 hours shoveling the cold white stuff to make THE LATEST THING … a Snowman Slide like no other. The lucky kids who get to experience this will have something fun to remember every winter for the rest of their lives.
Witness the glory!
