Geoff, It was great to meet you also. I am currently working on a second book. I am still going back and forth if I want to do a sequel just like the first or if I should make it a novel based on the real cases I handled. I'll let you know when I decide which way to go.

The best thing for me is the creative aspect. I am normally a very logical and by the rules kind of guy and this allows me to get creative and tell my stories to others so that they might understand the police better. I think this will help in some small way to this end. I love that I can make a difference by writing since this was the reason I became a cop in the first place.

For me the inspiration came from my career as a police officer. I always felt that a vast majority of people don't understand what we as cops go through on a daily basis. I have thought about writing this book for several years but it wasn't until I retired that I was able to sit down and do it. I used my 24 years of police work to inspire all of my stories. They are all true stories that I was involved in and I did not sugarcoat any of them. I wanted everyone to know the reality of what I did.

I am currently working the next book, Ride Along, which will be a sequel to my current book, Behind the Badge.

When I first started to write my book I was all over the place. First person, third person, present tense, past tense, and it was all a big jumble. I tried for three months and then finally gave up. For the next year I kept thinking about the book and I needed to get it together and to start writing it. I found a writing class given online through the local community college and decided to take it. It wasn't graded and there was little pressure about the class. It gave me enough guidance to start to write again. This time when I sat down at the computer it came much more easily and logically. I still made mistakes and the editor made a lot of corrections. This was the key to getting me started and in the right direction.

When I hit a bad spot and can't come up with what to write, I take a long walk with my dog in the woods or I get away from the computer and go somewhere with my wife. This helps me get out of my own head and I just leave it all behind me. Nine times out of ten when I get back, my mind is clear and the writing is much easier.
