Sorry, I'm just seeing this.
I read that book ten years ago and frankly don't remember it.

I had painted oils before. Watercolor is totally different. I took courses at the local community college to learn the basics. Then I recommend finding a small group of watercolorists to paint with. We met once a week and discussed what we were doing and what worked. It also encouraged me to keep painting.
My book choosing method is pretty random.
I haven't found a Bible study that is consistently good. Some have valuable insights, but many seem too worldly.

Meaning. Well, I didn't take away a Meaning-type meaning. (Understand, I've read a hundred books since then; I barely recall it.)

Good question. Contrary to my first impulse, I think I'd visit someplace boring but stimulating. Definitely not Middle Earth nor Narnia.
Off hand, I can't think of anyplace utopian enough. I'll think about it.

On mornings I write, I re-read and edit the last chapter I wrote. That gets me into the story. Then I start writing. (Usually I've done my research and have the next chapter plotted, at least in my mind.) I try to type the new chapter straight through, that is, not editing or re-writing. Sometimes it takes only an hour or so to do this, sometimes all morning. Then I set it aside. (No re-reading or editing until the following morning, when I repeat the process.) On a story that I'm "into" I can write 50,000 or 60,000 words a month. (Yes, I've done NaRiMo twice.)
That works fine for fiction, less well for non-fiction.

I usually back off for a while.
To re-start, I read what I've done on that story, research the background, and try to create a new road block or crisis for my protagonist to deal with.

Getting to do research. ;-)
Seriously, that's a real problem; you can get lost on the internet.
I love to learn and explore, writing gives it direction and purpose.

Usually, I see an image, which becomes a scene in an existing story or the basis for a new story. Many are "what if" ideas.

A historical fiction young-adult story about a young Hessian drafted into his army to fight for the English against its American colonies. (Loosely based on the experience of my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.)

Aspiring writers should 1. read a lot, 2. write a lot, 3. hang out with friendly, but serious writers a lot.
