Narrelle M. Harris She always knocks on my window, six year old Nikki, wordlessly asking to be let inside with her big blue eyes, her mouth full of dirt. No matter where I move these last 20 years; no matter how far away, or how high up, even on the 30th floor, she knocks at my window.
Narrelle M. Harris PG Wodehouse's world would be charming and funny to live in, but Sherlock Holmes's Victorian London has its appeal. Maybe I could live in 221A and watch all the comings and goings.
Narrelle M. Harris When I lived in Poland, my landlord was murdered in the apartment downstairs from where we lived. Not speaking the language, we don't know if the murder was ever solved. I'd really like to know what the hell happened.
Narrelle M. Harris It's hard to pick just one awesome couple, though thinking on it, I always like couples who have spark, and each has strengths, and a certain amount of sass. So Benedick and Beatrice; Elizabeth Bennett and Darcy; and Holmes and Watson. Whether the latter are read as the greatest friendship or a great love story, they're an enduring example of partnership, affection and love.
Narrelle M. Harris The Adventure of the Colonial Boy has come about because a new imprint is going to publish Holmes/Watson romances, and I thought it a wonderful opportunity to explore their relationship (and play with canon references) by setting an adventure during the period Holmes is meant to be dead after 'The Final Problem' in Australia. Watson is going to be mighty annoyed to find he's been grieving for a friend who isn't actually dead. Watson also has a canonical link to the goldfields of Ballarat. A red leech will also be involved. It's going to be fun!
Narrelle M. Harris It isn't at all hard for me. Things I read, see and experience in life; things that other people comment on; two juxtaposing ideas. All kinds of 'what if?' scenarios. I have so many story ideas in my notebooks that my problem is not inspiration to write; it's focusing on just one inspiration at a time!
Narrelle M. Harris A short story about Death awkwardly stalking a poet who writes about him; a paranormal gay romance called Ravenfall, and I'm about to start on a Holmes/Watson romance - The Adventure of the Colonial Boy - for a new imprint, Improbable Press.
Narrelle M. Harris Write. Write write write write write. Start and continue and finish, and write some more. Write through your hesitation, write through your fear that it's all rubbish, write through clunky sentences and write through word-constipation. Writers are lucky because we can edit what we've written to be better - but you can't edit a blank page. And you should write and write and write because muscles get stronger and more limber through use. We improve and improve and improve because we practise and DO. So, even if you can only do a hundred words a day, write those hundred, and keep on writing until it's done.
Narrelle M. Harris The endless worlds of imagination I can inhabit and explore.
Narrelle M. Harris Usually, I go for a walk and more or less talk to myself in the voice of one (or more) of the characters. Either that or wait until I don't have a single pen or piece of paper to hand, and suddenly the wellspring uncorks. I end up sending myself so many emails from my phone, it's not funny.
