Kate E. Thompson Aside from taking my dog to work and drinking wine on the job, the best thing about being a writer is creating characters and bringing them to life. I make the calls in their world. They do and say what I tell them. After raising children, this is very satisfying.
Kate E. Thompson The idea for Bigfoot Hunters Never Lie came from family camp-outs and Bigfoot stories told around a blazing fire. It came from a photo of best friends, from 25 years in fundamentalist religion and coming out, an Ethiopian art exhibit and a high spirited daughter. There was a video from the animal shelter, documentaries, current events, the writings of Jonathan Edwards and Jay Bakker, a guy who played accordion in front of the grocery store and a homeless Vietnam vet. And questions – what’s the worst way to die? Is loyalty enough? Is it a lie if you believe it? Is a lie ever good? All of this and more went into imagining my debut novel. Bigfoot Hunters Never Lie. January 21, 2015. TwoNewfs Publishing.
Kate E. Thompson I walk away. I don’t think about it or try to solve it. Instead, I work on other things, like social media and researching. I read, walk the dog and sometimes go to bookstores. If I’m still stuck, I load the dishwasher. It always needs loading. No inspiration yet? I prep dinner. Last resort, I clean house. Usually, the idea of cleaning will bring me back to my old writing self.
