Ryan Jo Summers Heat from the shower steamed up the mirror, and filled the room with moisture. As he dried off, a child's small hand print appeared in the mirror, followed by another, this one red, and then a finder began writing in the mist.
Ryan Jo Summers I'm just starting Nora Roberts "The Search". I haven't read anything by her in a while. I bought a book on Biblical Depression I am anxious to start, and I have "Pet Sitter's Tales" which appeals to me because I also pet sit.
Ryan Jo Summers I would love to go back in time to any of the western pre-Civil war lands. When the west was young and open to anyone who could claim it. And it would stake a claim for myself, work the land, and make a life in a simpler time. It's not so much fictional, just different than our current time and world.
Ryan Jo Summers A family member dies, leaving a single key in a small box. To what does the key go to? What does it unlock? Who owns the contents? What are the contents? Why hadn't the family member shared the key, contents and location with family? Thriller or mystery?
Ryan Jo Summers Dana Scully and Fox Mulder from X-Files. They were extreme opposites, who slowly fell for each other. They had true feelings, but were forbidden due to work situations, and that chemistry created some strong emotions for both of them. Had they been able to freely invest in their relationship, the show would not have been half as good. Their opposing views on just about everything kept adding to that chemistry as well.
Ryan Jo Summers I take a break, take a walk in nature, get away from the material. Fresh sights often will lead to new insights. Distance helps. A few hours can lead to the best new scenes or re-writes of old ones.
Ryan Jo Summers Two things. One is a trilogy of three spirited sisters who find love in a small coastal town. This was born out of my mental happy place so the setting is like an old friend. I recently decided to invite the characters to come and spend some time there. So far, two of the three books are rough drafted. I am taking my time so I can linger with my new friends at my happy place.
The other is more of a challenge. It will be a love story, with many layers. It is almost like writing it backwards. I know what I want to accomplish, but getting there is like walking--or writing--in reverse. Ultimately it will be a literary love story and I still don't know for sure what twists and blends are up ahead. This is one story that has challenged me from the first inspired thought. I love it.
Ryan Jo Summers We get to create places and people, the good and the bad. We can escape to these places and hang out with these people, if only in our minds. We get the thrill of knowing somewhere, someone is reading one of our stories and we had a part in helping them escape their current world, if only for a little while. Plus, seeing our names on the book cover is a thrill that does not seem to get old. We are leaving something indelible behind, a part of ourselves that will continue on.
Ryan Jo Summers I read ever since I could remember, wrote my first story at ten years old. I figured everyone had stories in them and could write them down. After that, it became almost a medical condition. I had to let these voices and visions out of my mind or I'd go insane. It wasn't until I was older did I realize this writing thing was actually a career and there were people who did that full time. Wow, what a concept to a young kid. I was hooked.
Ryan Jo Summers Never give up. Dream big and chase those dreams with unbridled tenacity. Never let others tell you what you should or should not do or be. You know you the best. You have to live with you. Be the best person and writer you can be. Take time to learn and practice your craft. Don't be scared to try new things or styles. Grow.
Ryan Jo Summers They come from everywhere. Random sights, overheard conversations, song snippets and just plain old imagination. My friends laugh at me because I can one ordinary item or comment and turn it into thousands of words in a story.
