I apologize for not answering your question! For some reason I did not get an alert that it was here. Anyway, there are many authors who have inspired me. In fact, the authors who have written the books I most love are what inspired me to become an author - Beverly Cleary, Eleanor Estes (The Hundred Dresses), Katherine Paterson, and Kate DiCamillo. There are many others I love too, but those I've listed, I'm simply in awe of. I love reading historical fiction too! I am always amazed at how much I don't know about history when I read historical fiction. It's such a great way to not only learn about a time period, but also get a "feel" for what it was like to live in that time period.
Thanks for your question, and again, I apologize for such a delayed response.
Happy Reading!

Hi Allyn,
Thanks for reading RATCHET! Many readers want to know what happens to Ratchet and Hunter . . . and lots of readers give me suggestions. :) No plans right now to do a sequel, but you never know . . . . Maybe Ratchet will tap me on the shoulder one day and whisper the rest of her story to me. If she does, I'll definitely write that book!

Always lots of Middle Grade. Currently I am reading Jasper and the Riddle of Riley's Mine by Caroline Starr Rose. Next on the list is Speed of Life by Carol Weston and Audacity Jones Steals the Show by Kirby Larson. I usually hit the "New Books" section when I go to the library and load up my book bag there.

Maybe this is cheating, but I like Henry Huggins and Beezus. Not sure if they every really got together, but if not, I think they should. :)

My newest book comes out in Sept. It is called Elsie Mae Has Something to Say. It is historical fiction taking place in the 1930's in the Okefenokee Swamp. It is an adventure, mystery kind of story. I hope you'll try it. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed ABIGAIL!

My most recent book, JUST LIKE ME, due out in April 2016, was inspired by my daughter and her friends. It is a camp story, and the three of them went away to camp. They actually went to the same camp I went to as a child, so in some ways my own life experiences were an inspiration as well.

I find inspiration in almost everything - watching people, TV shows, funny stories people tell me. As long as I am paying attention, life happening all around me is a huge inspiration.

I just recently finished my third book JUST LIKE ME. It is a camp story about 3 girls adopted from China going away to camp together. It's a story about finding out how important friendships can be even when you have to sometimes fight to make those friendships strong. Our friends often times help us discover who we really are.

READ!!! Read everything you can, but especially read the kinds of books you're trying to write. Learning from other authors how story actually works is the best thing you can do.

Staying up late and sleeping in. :) For me the actual writing is the best part - I love being so involved in my story that I lose track of time and feel as if I'm completely part of the story-world I'm creating.

Going for a walk is one of the best ways. Actually anything that gets your mind away from whatever you're trying to figure out in your story is helpful. It's like when you're trying to think of a person's name and you can't seem to think of it - the minute you stop trying, it pops into your head.

So happy you enjoyed RATCHET! No plans for a sequel as of yet, but you are not the first reader who would like to see one. You never know . . .
