Nicola Cornick Thank you - I'm so happy that you are enjoying the book! I love that you are planning a knot garden with your herb bed! I'm not an expert on garden history but it has interested me for a number of years since I started working at Ashdown House and learned about the sort of garden that was designed to go with a hunting lodge in the 17th century. When I was researching The Winter Garden I visited Kenilworth Castle and Lyveden New Bield and others to get inspiration. It was wonderful. Thanks so much for the question and all best wishes, Nicola
Nicola Cornick Hi Regina! How lovely of you to get in touch. I'm so happy you are enjoying The Phantom Tree and hope you will like my other books too. It's such a pleasure to hear from readers when they enjoy a book - it so encouraging. Thank you very much and happy reading. Nicola x
Nicola Cornick Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for your question. It's really hard to choose a favourite character. I like my heroines Alison from The Phantom Tree and Lizzie in The Forgotten Sister because they are a bit spiky and difficult but really learn and change during the story and that resonates with me and hopefully other people too. I love all my Regency heroes :)

I usually get inspiration for my timeslip books from the amazing historical women I read about whose stories are often overlooked or lost in time. Also I visit some wonderful atmospheric places that inspire me.

Thank you and happy reading!
Nicola
Nicola Cornick That's such a great question! There are so many places I would love to visit - Elizabethan England in A Traveller in Time by Alison Uttley, Narnia, The Viking era with Christina Courtenay's Echoes of the Runes... All of these places have an element of jeopardy in them so perhaps a lovely castle by the sea would also be welcome!
Nicola Cornick I'm currently working on the revisions to my second romantic historical mystery, which I hope will be out later this year. It's a dual time period novel and is set in the Tudor era as well as the present, involving the Seymour family of Wolf Hall. There's lots of lovely history and romance to get my teeth into! Alongside that I am researching my next book which I hope will be a big fat Georgian set story with smuggling and lots of derring do!
Nicola Cornick The first thing I would say to aspiring authors is that there is no "right" way of writing. Do you plot a story out first or just leap straight in? Do you write a draft all the way through or go over what you have already written? it doesn't matter as long as it works for you.

Be determined - it took me 12 years to get published and you need to be persistent to achieve your dream. And draw on the support of the romance community. It's a wonderful group of people!
Nicola Cornick The idea for my most recent book, House of Shadows, came from the work I do at the 17th century hunting lodge Ashdown House. There I came across Elizabeth Stuart, the Winter Queen, who is a fascinating figure almost lost from history. I wanted to bring her story out into the light.
