Kimberly Gordon I love a good story, and I hear them in great music, and see wonderful characters in art work, or when I'm people watching. Ideas are everywhere. As soon as I connect on an emotional level with something, it's time to write.
Kimberly Gordon I'm editing "Kat & Mouse," the next book in the Black Kat series. I'm also getting ready for NanoWrimo. I'll be writing a genie book! I can't wait!
Kimberly Gordon Never let ANYONE tell you that you can't write, your ideas are stupid or you'll never make money. If there's a story inside of you, it's there for a reason. Write no matter what anyone else says, because this isn't about them. It's about you.

And never give up, especially when you hit the "shit sandwich" mode. Every writer hits this. It's when you suddenly think everything you're writing is crap. Just keep showing up at the page each and every freaking day, whether you want to or not. Kick your butt into that chair and don't stop for anything! Write like your life depends on it. You'll amazed at what you can do!
Kimberly Gordon Hitting the publish button and finally sharing my "babies" with the world! It's really hard to write jokes and wait months (or years!) to hear someone else laugh at them.
Kimberly Gordon I waited a long time to publish, so I have years worth of stories waiting to get out, but if I do run into the rare day when my characters refuse to talk to me, there's usually a reason. I either need to sleep, take a break or do some research. While writing Unlucky Charm, this happened. All my characters just stopped "talking." You could hear the crickets! I needed to do some research on courtrooms and legal procedures for Hugh's trial. Once I started, everything began to flow again.
Kimberly Gordon I love superheroes and wanted to do a dark romantic comedy series about it. How exactly DO you go on a date when you have a nasty habit of bursting into flames? Or accidentally zapping your loved ones? Being a Super isn't all it's cracked up to be!

The Black Kat series is actually a spin off of my Calpernica series. I knew I wanted a heroine who was a writer in the second book. C.J. Weatherly, aka Charlie, is based on a short story I wrote in high school about a world famous author who had absolutely no talent whatsoever, drank like a fish, and tried to set her Pulitzer Prize on fire to no avail. My English teacher told me I should get it published, but I was too embarrassed to pursue that.

Fast forward nearly 30 years later. I was dreaming up what to do in the sequel to Crazy in the Heart and remembered that character. I decided to write her in as Jack's love interest. But I wanted to give her an interesting series. Why not superheroes? Why not write some of the characters from one series into the other?

And thus, Black Kat was born.
