In the dead of night, it woke her, for the third night in a row--exactly as it had foretold. She held her breath, pulled the covers over her mouth, and waited for it to claim the debt she owed, for a deed she wished she'd never done.

I would go to the world of The Underworld Saga to visit Hades and Persephone and their Underworld family. And I'd ask for a ride in their chariot to see Mount Olympus and the other gods.

Hi Lovely. Vampires are interesting to me for a number of reasons. I like that they were once human, and, as such, have histories that make them tragic and sympathetic. They're made even more tragic by the curse of having to feed on humans in order to survive, and most of them struggle with that curse, wishing they didn't have to be monsters just to survive. I also like that they're powerful, with abilities mortals only dream of, such as flight, invisibility, mind control, and super strength and speed. And their immortality provides for interesting and remarkable lives that can span centuries.

It just so happens that three of my novels were inspired by actual mysteries in my life: The Mystery Tomb, The Mystery Box, and a yet-to-be-published book, Magpies in Winter. The first deals with my family's search for our Native American ancestors, the second responds to a box that was delivered to me by mistake, and the third explains the unusual reltationship between my grandparents and the "uncle" who lived across the street.

How in the world can I reduce the hundreds of stories I've read over decades to one favorite couple? I can reduce them to a handful, though. The first to spring to mind is Leah and Anatole in Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible--so beautiful and unexpected. From the young adult genre, I think of Cassandra Clare's The Infernal Devices and the relationship between Jem and Tessa--or Stephenie Meyer's The Host and the interesting relationship between Melanie, Jared, Wanderer, and Ethan. I love how distinct Melanie and Wanderer are even though they share the same body. From the classics, I would choose Jane Austen's Lizzy and Mr. Darcy, even though they hate each other for most of the story.

There's been interest in Hollywood about both The Gatekeeper's Sons and The Purgatorium, but nothing has really progressed. An adaptation for film is being written for The Purgatorium but no option rights have been sold, and The Gatekeeper's Sons has been put on hold. Or, are you asking about The Vampires of Athens? I would love to see all three series made into film or television adaptations one day :)
Eva Pohler
Absolutely. Right now, there are two screenwriters interested in creating a film adaptation for The Gatekeeper's Sons. I haven't made any decisions on this yet because I'm already working with another screenwriter/producer on a film adaptation for The Purgatorium.
Would you rather see The Gatekeeper's Saga as a TV series or a series of motion pictures?

I'm so glad you enjoyed The Gatekeeper's Sons. I hope to attract the attention of a movie producer one day. I've got ALL MY DIGITS CROSSED! You will know when it happens by the shrill scream coming from San Antonio, TX!

The final book of The Purgatorium Series releases mid-February. I'm also excited about a new series called The Vampires of Athens. I'm having a blast writing about Greek gods and vampires and the American girl caught between them!

Research usually helps me overcome writer's block, but if I'm really at a loss, I consult my tarot cards. I have a set based on all the Greek gods and goddesses. Great fun!

It's a toss up between getting to wear pajamas all day and reading the reviews of my fans.

If you love writing and want to make it your career, now is the best time in human history to make that happen. It's not easy. In fact, I work hard just about every day. But I love it so much!

I am currently writing the sixth and final book in my Gatekeeper's Saga, the Gatekeeper's Promise.

I get inspired by my dreams, by ancient myths, and by the stories others tell.

In college, I loved reading about the psychological experiments from the fifties and sixties performed by doctors like Stanley Milgram and Philip Zimbardo. The idea for The Purgatorium Series came from those experiments, which asked the question: Do the ends justify the means?
