I have had the good fortune to have known great people. The impetus to write about my relationship with Marcel Marceau was two-fold: 1/ I wanted to give back by honoring him in my own way, not from the point of view of a sycophant, but as the man that he was -- as I knew him, and that meant daring to get real and showing his humanity, as well as my own. 2/ When I began this memoir, I didn't feel that my own voice would be a match for his greatness, but it developed in the process. This book says a lot about us both.

Inspiration comes easy if I am in the "Zone". By that I mean in the bead of focus. I hold that place of focus most precious: it's easy to lose and hard to stay in. Everything about daily life scatters my attention. Inspiration comes through scintillating conversations, or quietude of mind. It can come from anything, anytime at all. I'm always looking for inspiration and finding it in unexpected moments. The discipline is in remaining open and letting moments speak to me.

All my time is spent learning about marketing, and for me that includes expanding my computer skills, which are pretty limited, listening to webinars, learning about social media. Marketing is a bear. I self-published both my books so I'm having to do all the marketing myself. At the same time, I'm "trying on" a number of subjects for my next book to see which one is the ripest for me at this time. I find that if my "inner book" is ready, it flows of it's own accord. If it is still too unformed, it is like pushing a bolder uphill in deep mud. A book must ripen and be ready.

There's more to being a writer than just writing. If you REALLY REALLY want to be a writer then nothing will stop you. You will enter that river and it will flow through you. But then there's the marketing aspect, and that's HUGE. I always say, when choosing a profession, consider all aspects of it. For me, writing is the fun part; marketing is the hard part. It takes up all my time and resources. I keep a small notebook with me at all times, and whenever inspiration strikes I write it down, however long or short. I have hundreds of these things. Be sure to date everything. Most of all, NEVER give up. That's a whole subject unto itself.

It is a great multi-dimensional form of expression. I love sculpting ideas and emotions and images into language. And when it all comes together and flows it is thrilling!

I read well-written anything: poetry, or something of a writer whose style excites me, then I get into that mindset and mentally or emotionally"collage" it onto my subject. It works for me every time. It breaks the mind freeze I'm in.
