Sally Carpenter How I ended up in Southern California after a lifetime in the Midwest.
Sally Carpenter I like the world of Nancy Drew. She never works a job yet she has plenty of money, nice clothes, a car etc. It seems like a simple time without so much technology or stress, except for the constant crime.
Sally Carpenter I knew my book would be set in the 1960s America. I was watching a Peter Sellers movie, "I Love You Alice B. Toklas." The film starts with an Indian guru talking to someone. The 1960s were a time of exploration into new worship styles and non-Western religions. I so created a group of devotees and how they clash with traditional society.
Sally Carpenter Years ago I enjoyed the original "Poldark" series on PBS with Robin Ellis. lately I got the itch to read the Winston Graham books so I hope to read the entire 12-book series this year. I'm already halfway through book one, "Ross Poldark." Also, a friend gave me a book with the entire five-book "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series so that's next TBR.
Sally Carpenter I'm not aware of a large number of fictional couples. Generally it's a lone hero or a "buddy" tale of two men or two women. As for couples, I go for Nick and Nora Charles of the Thin Man movies. She's clearly his equal. They love each other and work well as a detective team. Oh, yes, and Lucy and Desi Richardo of "I Love Lucy."
Sally Carpenter Creating my own world where I'd like to live and making sure all problems have a happy ending and the bad guy is always brought to justice. It's like being a god but not the almighty God.
Sally Carpenter I'm giving my Sandy Fairfax series a break to start on a new retro-cozy series. This one is set in 1967 in a small town in southern Indiana, only a smidgen like the town where I grew up. The series has a black cat in it. Don't want to give too many spoilers yet but it should be groovy.
