Nancy Gideon My plots usually start with my hero and his journey. Once I can picture him clearly, I can expand upon his wants, needs and goals . . . and how the heroine figures into them. What I just started working on is the continuation of a series, so I've been reading through the previous titles in it to surround myself with the world I'll be working in. It's historical . . . and I'm loving it!
Nancy Gideon Never, ever, ever give up. Where you are is your starting point. Keep moving forward. Speed isn't important, it's the journey and what you learn from it.
Nancy Gideon In her dreams, she could change her own reality. When she awoke, she couldn't escape it.
Nancy Gideon I'm working my way through my backlist of over 80 titles and four pen names, starting with my Dana Ransom historicals. So far I'm loving the journey!
Nancy Gideon It's a ghost story! My childhood home was rumored to be haunted. When I was preschool age, I used to imagine that I could float down our stairs after the third step down. I still remember the feeling vividly. In adulthood, I told this to my sister who'd been researching the house's history and she revealed that the first owner of the house had been an elderly woman who lived alone. She fell down the stairs and died of her injuries while lying at the bottom of them. Creepy. After learning that, I never had the experience again.
Nancy Gideon Hi Shirley! So glad you're enjoying reading them as much as I am writing them! 1) Those scenes are so much fun to - visualize. Nothing like a sexy shapeshifter whose got moves. Good idea! I may steal that from you. Hmmm, let me think . . . now I'll be distracted for the rest of the day. 2) Since I've got such a rich group of younger characters "growing up" in the series, I'm seriously considering featuring them in a YA paranormal spin-off series of their own. I'll keep you posted.
Nancy Gideon Cleaning. I know, right? But something about the rote mindlessness of chores opens channels to creative thought. Writer's Block . . . start up that vacuum or do laundry. Another sure fire way is with a critique group weekend. Having my friends over to talk plot gets the juices flowing every time.
Nancy Gideon I LOVE Eve and Roarke in J.D. Robb's In Death series. Their relationship is multifaceted and endlessly fascinating as it grows, book after book. To have Max and Cee from my "By Moonlight" series compared to them is the ultimate compliment!
Nancy Gideon Going to work in yoga pants! Well, that's a perk, but it's all about doing what you love because you can't NOT do it.
Nancy Gideon I'm half way through UNLEASHED BY SHADOWS, book #10 in the "By Moonlight" series and am hoping for a late summer release. It picks up where REMEMBERED BY MOONLIGHT left off with Cale Terriot and, finally Alain Babineau's backstory! Happy reading!
Nancy Gideon Well let's see . . . that's over 55 books! I have several favorites for different reasons but Masked by Moonlight is #1 simply because it was the book of my heart. The story just kept spilling out like I was watching a movie plot unfold. I couldn't write fast enough . . . all the way through Book 4!
Nancy Gideon Vacuum! Seriously. Nothing opens up a creative dam like doing something mindless and physical, like housecleaning. Or driving to work. Some of my best scenes have come to mind while waiting for a traffic light.
