I change tactics. I usually "pants" or "discovery" write. If I get stuck, I either swap to a short story for a time or I swap to "plotting". Now, that plotting will usually get scrapped very shortly after I'm done with it, but it kicks the creative juices just enough to get me going again.

When someone tells me the like what I've written. I'm not used to compliments, so it's always a little bit awkward, and I don't know what to say in response. At the end of the day, though, that's why I write. I want people to fall in love with the world I've created, and seeing people experience my creation and enjoy it is a feeling that can't be replaced.

Worry more about your story and characters, and less about word count, chapter structure, tropes, or following some random formula. I see a lot of advice all over the web telling authors to write certain ways... ignore it. Ignore all of it. Bury yourself into your story in your mind. Dream it. Experience it. Then write what you feel, and let your characters speak for themselves. Worry about the rest (editing, formatting, publishing) later.

I am working on a few short stories and novellas that will be published for free (for a time at least), and wrapping up the publishing side of Bathed in the Blood of Ravens so that I can focus on it's sequel, Enveloped by Dark's Embrace.

I love being creative, and I love telling stories. For me, motivation to write is always present. So, it's less about finding motivation, and more about having the time and mental capacity to execute after an exhausting day job.

Ayrelon was created in 1993 as a world I could host roleplaying game sessions in, and was slowly built up through those gaming sessions. Bathed in the Blood of Ravens is set in the 2nd Era of Man and features Laurence Ravencrest, Mordechai, Nightweaver, Drakahl, and many other characters that were Non-Player Characters in several of those game sessions, which were set in the 3rd Era of Man. The entire A Destiny of Blood & Magic series represents the expanded 'back story' for the most influential characters, factions, kingdoms and the overall world of Ayrelon, and it's a story that's been brewing in my mind for over twenty years.
