Tim Parr Hello Gill, thank you for your message. I hope that you had an enjoyable Christmas. Yes, I would be happy to review your novel and am honoured to be asked. Would you like to contact me via my website's contact page and we can converse that way?
Best wishes, Tim
Tim Parr My chest was burning as my eight year old self leapt over the gate to escape the charging bull, pushing open the familiar door of the ivy clad cottage. With relief, I saw my mother at her sewing table but as she turned to greet me, she had morphed into a hideous cackling witch!
Tim Parr Hmm, everything and anything! My debut novel is a mosaic of so many things. As a writer of fiction, it is largely from imagination but there are also observations, experiences and memories mingled in there. I like to visit places I use in my writing and I would be happy to tell more but I don't want to spoil it for the reader. One thing that might surprise you is that I didn't allow myself to read any other books in the year or so of writing my own one. I am enormously looking forward to picking up some books that have been recommended to me.
Tim Parr Writer's block sounds like a terminal affliction but it really doesn't need to be. I work full time in my professional life so I am used to cramming in other activities in the limited time available. For me, the writing process is a welcome distraction. There is an energy released in turning exciting undeveloped ideas into words on a page and on the whole this keeps me motivated. I would certainly find it tougher if I had whole empty days stretching in front of me. In times when it is hard to focus, and believe me there are many of those, I roam. I might move my notepad or laptop to another room or head for a coffee shop with a background hubbub or a communal table in the local library for peace and quiet. Occasionally I have been known to get in the car and drive to a motorway service station to kick-start the creative juices. I am quite hopeless at writing early in the morning and when I get the opportunity I like to tap away into the night while the rest of the house is sleeping, with George the cat and maybe a single malt to keep me company.
Tim Parr I have just finished my debut novel Below The Strandline. I'm so looking forward to reviews to include in the paperback version. My author website has just been launched and there is a lot of marketing currently underway to get spotted by readers. I'm really fond of some of the characters. There are some ideas forming for my next project. I carry little moleskin notebooks with me to scribble and sketch out ideas that are buzzing in my head. I will possibly trial out some short stories and see where they lead.
